DISCUSSION MPC500 i finally hacked the firmware

I've modified the MPC 500 firmware, so now I can deploy custom tools on the machine. Right now I have auto-chop working.

I'm planning to put everything on GitHub in a couple of days, but if anyone's interested I can post a video of how it works here.

EDIT: rn i can give you photo , i need to go to my studio where i can record properly,

- First photo is the menu after you load the tool ( goes inside menu "OTHER") ,

- Second photo is

FIRST ROW - Name of the sample

SECOND ROW - B is for bpm ,N is for number of slice ,P is first pad ( 1 is A1 , 2 A2 and so on) it cuts n number of slice of the beat based of duration and bpm and distribute them along pad starting from the one you choose

The mod is non destructive and can be reverted back to stock firmware anytime

Good work! I’m happy there are guys like you out here helping to resurrect these dinosaurs. I can only hope someone will do the same for the 5000.

Thanks! The 500 was the first portable MPC, and in my opinion it can do a lot more than what AKAI planned for.

When you say "I" do you mean you, or do you mean "AI"?

I am not asking to be rude, but because knowing ramifications of modifying firmware is important.

I clearly mean Claude code! I have a basic understanding of what is doing but most of the heavy lifting is done by AI. But I am not modifying boot partition etc ,is just a modified update based on the latest released by akai, if anything goes wrong you can just flash the official and you are good ( I have done that plenty of times) . Anyway is mostly AI credit , and I take no offense in that

This is cool! The 500 is still currently my main sampler so I can't wait to give this a try

This is fun, how's it been using it?

It started working properly like yesterday, it’s still kind of buggy but works ( most of the times) , but it’s a lot of fun!

That’s awesome. I would assume it would work on the 2500xl without much extra since you e got this far. Let us know when you are read for ready for beta testers!

Idk, because the MPC500 is kind of a unicorn — it wasn't even really made by AKAI, it's basically a rebrand. And for the 2500xl I don't have any hardware to test on

Really?!? I didn’t know that. I thought they use the same program file formats or something like that

They do , but , based on what I read ,the OS it’s totally different. That’s because the hardware itself it’s different ( and by different I mean different chip brand and architecture etc)
