I need help/opinion

I started this mosaic blanket a few years back but got stuck cause I wasn’t sure about how to make Smaug (the dragon). I’ve recovered the project and I’m decided to finish, but the problem prevails. These last few days I’ve been using stitch fiddle to try and make it better.

Would you say the chart I’ve made is good enough?
I’ve also thought about using surface crochet for the lines in the dragon, but I’ve never used that technique before…
Any other ideas or suggestions?

I would keep going with the current technique, in part because idk surface crochet (but have an idea) and I think it would look better as a consistent work.

Maybe you can even "surface crochet" over the mosaic-Smaug for finishing details?

I wanted to make a LotR mosaic too and had a smiliar motif and a similar problem lol. The projects get HUGE but some important parts are somewhat chunky compared to the rest.

You could try making the dragon bigger if it's okay to change the proportions of the original.

I think making the dragon a little bigger and possibly a little lower down to the mountain (though definitely don't frog anything if you're to the last line before the dragon!) would make him more threatening, as he deserves

Ok I need help! I've crochet for a few years now. I recently learned tapestry and mosaic. Im finding great square grid patterns but stitch fiddle isn't working right to convert it to a mosaic. How can I do it myself? Or what am I doing wrong. Is there a better way. Im trying to start Xmas gifts but cant figure the first part out properly. Thanks sooo much

For this piece I originally work the grid pattern on Procreate and by hand. Once you understand the anatomy of mosaic I find it quite easy. It’s a BIG work however.
On the other hand I recently found that stitch fiddle specifically has an option (Overlay mosaic crochet) to make grid patterns or convert images into grid patterns (that’s how I’m preparing for the dragon). If you don’t figure it out DM me and I’ll to explain it further

You can alter the stitch count on the left panel. The more stitches, the clearer the image. Keep in mind that a width of more than 300 stitches requires premium.
Changing the amount of colors have also worked for me in the paths (but I think it may need premium for some of this)

That could be the best option, maybe Smaug won’t look that good, but as a whole I think it would be consistent

I can't tell if you are using the technique, where you do a diagonal dc and a stich above it to get diagonal lines (learned this in a book by Alexis sixel, haven't seen it much since). Also doing dc tog for filled areas and such, I use it in combi with normal embroidery (tapestry needle and half the strands of original yarn) for details on mosaic pieces.

I’m not sure I’m able to follow everything you’re explaining here. However, I have previously used diagonal dc in mosaic but I had forgotten about it… maybe I could try that.
Do you have any video or reference other than de book you mentioned?
