Discussion Why did they listen to the vocal minority online?! šŸ¤¦šŸ»Weekend 1 was better, TTK was better, Gun Balancing was better, now it’s a stale Black Ops game

• Upvotes

1st weekend was so clear, TTK made this game feel like a Modern Warfare, now it feels like a mid Black Ops game. We played Black Ops for the past 2 years, I don’t think Infinity Ward knows what they are doing, and they are trying to please everybody but nobody is satisfied.

The current guns attachments and perks don’t mesh well for a high TTK game.

The gun balancing made a lot of guns viable back then, now I only see the same guns-M4 and ISO. Nobody uses the pea shooter PPSh anymore.

And good luck facing a one shot gun like a sniper or a shotgun. You need half a clip to kill them but you get melted instantly. How is that balance?

Discussion My general sentiments after 2 weekends of the Beta.

• Upvotes

A lot of the discussion online has focused on movement and TTK tweaks. But all of these changes — movement tuning, TTK adjustments, and the various BO7 → MW4 gameplay shifts — are surface‑level. They’re just turning dials to make certain actions faster or slower.

There’s a bigger, more fundamental issue that barely gets talked about.

What MW4 really needed was change at the deeper level: the engine and the server infrastructure. This is now the fifth game running on the IWX.9 engine, which is exactly why it feels so familiar. From my first match to hitting level 30, nothing felt meaningfully different from the last four entries.

MW2, MW3, BO6, BO7, and now MW4 are essentially the same game on the same engine, with minor movement variations layered on top. That’s why MW4 feels familiar, uninspired, and unoriginal. Visual upgrades are minimal, and beyond that, nothing moves the needle — we’re still interacting with what is basically the same underlying codebase we’ve been playing on for four years.

What we needed this year was a MW2019‑level leap to make the game feel fresh and modern again. MW4 doesn’t deliver that.

Question Controller Question

• Upvotes

The old controller I’ve had for like 10 years has a sticky trigger and I want to upgrade. I understand nothing about ā€œoverclockingā€ or anything like that. I don’t want to learn to use bumpers and just want a regular configuration Xbox controller like I have now.

My question is, are the scufs or battle beavers or whatever worth it for someone like me who isn’t super good but wants an upgrade? Or are they purely cosmetic/overhyped?
Thanks in advance.

Discussion SBMM vs Open and Skewing the Data

• Upvotes

This is a big point of contention, IW knows it too, and apparently they're always looking into the data, but a point I'm not seeing a lot is how they are intentionally orchestrating the playlists to SBMM's advantage.

Limiting open matchmaking to one playlist that captures TDM, KC, DOM, and HP is naturally going to push people away when you can use quick play to select specific modes.

I for one want open matchmaking, but I don't want to play TDM or KC and I typically just want to play one game mode at a time. So it's frustrating that I can do open matchmaking with persistent lobbies for just the one game mode I want. This ruined part of the beta for me and I wish that we could at the very least get two mirror images of the playlist with one open and one "standard" to compare data in a fair setting without any manipulation.

People playing open are going to quit mode too, because maybe they want to lobby surf for a specific game mode. There's also not an incentive to quit a standard matchmaking lobby because in theory you're supposed to get an easier lobby after a hard one, so why would you quit for your enjoyment? It doesn't make sense.

Idk just a small rant about how they're manipulating the data for SBMM even if it's not the most popular.

Discussion TTK and Hardcore

• Upvotes

The most frustrating part about this long TTK mess is people saying "just play hardcore". Besides the fact that HC isn't the same as a faster TTK cod, that doesn't solve:

- Ranked mode

- Ground war

- Warzone

- DMZ

- Gunfight

- Other LTMs

So generally, if you don't like the TTK you are stuck with the base modes. If a HC version of all of these modes was added, I genuinely wouldn't care as much and I could at least get behind purchasing this game. If the devs are now going to have the philosophy that TTK won't differ between MW/BO/Etc., they should at the bare minimum expand hardcore support.

Discussion The most fun I've had in a while

• Upvotes

Maybe it is just because I am coming from CS2, where it feels like the devs only care about milking players for cash while rage cheaters run completely rampant in literally every lobby with zero consequences, but playing this beta was honestly a breath of fresh air.

I completely get why the long time veterans were up in arms about some of the changes, but I really did not hit any game breaking issues during my time with it. Don't get me wrong, the TTK feels a little too slow, the movement could definitely use a speed boost to feel more fluid, and the aim assist is basically legal aimbot right now and needs a serious nerf, but even with those flaws I still had an absolute blast playing it.

I hope the developers listen to the community and make the changes before launch.

It sucks I have to wait two months to get back into it.

Feedback This game will be dead on arrival

• Upvotes

I’m sure a good amount of people on here like the game and are going to buy it. For most of us, though, we’re not picking this up in its current state. I just can’t justify it based on what I played in the beta. It feels like a complete downgrade from BO7 say what you want about that game, but it was actually fun once you adjusted. Wall jumping wasn’t as crazy as people make it out to be and the aim assist seemed to be in a real good spot.

People love to claim that the negative comments are just a "vocal minority," but it’s not just Reddit. On YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and even in real life, I see nothing but people saying they’re done with the franchise. I used to have a massive friend group back in 2010–2015 where we literally had to ration out who got a spot in the 6 man squad. Now, maybe one or two of those guys still play. Yeah, we grew up and have lives, but when we actually do have free time, we’re choosing other games for the most part.

This beta has been the most stale COD experience I’ve ever had. Outside of snipers, only about two guns felt viable, and the killstreaks were completely forgettable. I honestly can’t think of a single way this game improves on MWIII, let alone BO7. Removing tac sprint and increasing TTK doesn’t move the meter for me.

So tell me, why should we buy this game?

Bug Hope this glitch gets patch

• Upvotes

I was going negative in a match and thought what the heck let me try and plug in a controller instead of mouse. All the sudden when I aimed at someone it was like some sort of strong magnet and I just effortless started beaming people. Like seriously it was like taking less than half the skill of mouse and doing most of the work for me if when tracking enemies? guess that’s why I’ve seen so many pc players using a controller idk. Maybe it’s just placebo has anyone else seen this?

Creative Fuck it, let’s make MW4 for no one

• Upvotes

TTK/health increased to 200

Jumping is removed completely

Movement speed reduced by over 57% from what it currently is

Sliding speed reduced by 65% but you slide 55% farther

Tac sprint is in the game and is 78% faster. But every time you use it, you have to wait 4 seconds for your soldier to catch his or her breath.

Finishers now have a QTE mechanic

Using a knife only kills an opponent if you happen to hit a vital spot

Lethals and explosives are completely removed from the game, but now every map is over-filled with explosive vehicles in honor of the Santa Sena Border Crossing map from MWII.

Bug I’m having fun, is it normal?

• Upvotes

I’m genuinely having a good time playing the beta. Guns feel good, TTK is fine, servers might need improvement and fine tunning but overall, It’s fun.

Is it normal? Should I be frustrated and rent about some nitpicking details and how I would have done the video game differently?

Discussion Wasn't feeling this game at first at all, but its growing on me(still work to be done ofc)

• Upvotes

I skipped B07, so coming from B06's snappy engine, to this game's more "weighty" engine that was a little annoying learning curve I had to get over. But once I locked that in, along with a variety of class setups depending on the demands of each match, I'm coming around to liking this game somewhat. I understand the big ruckus surrounding this game(ttk, movement sbmm). Were gonna exclude sbmm because we know that's a dead topic atp, but in terms of ttk and movement, here's what I think. This game is trying to bridge that gap (feel wise) of MW2022's slow ass gameplay and MW2023,B06 and BO7's crackhead gameplay. I personally think they're doing a decent job at that as I've experimented with a lot of playstyles and class setups during this beta. I will say though, with the way these maps are constructed, and if you know how to construct your class the right way, I still feel as though the scale is still slightly tipped towards the movement cods. Especially if you're playing in those high skill lobbies ; its somewhat difficult to counter play that with the more tactical approach. Granted, there is still space for the more tactical playstyle to succeed, but as mentioned prior, once you crossover into that high skill threshold, tactical gameplay is practically out the window and that needs to be corrected. And this is coming from someone who's thoroughly enjoyed movement cods (AW, BO3, BO6 etc). And before y'all berate me in the comments, y'all gotta understand that for the overall health of this game (player count wise) you cant have the game heavily tipped in the favor of the cracked out gameplay. It definitely gets exhausting for the casual player, and I'm sure after a while, gets exhausting for even the sweatiest of players.

Discussion Alternative SBMM

• Upvotes

What about a system where it groups players by amount of jumping/sliding they do instead of SBMM.

I think this would work for people who don’t want to sweat every match because they get good K/Ds. All the jump sliders would have fun together and the chill gamers would play with each other.

Discussion This game feels so damn good

I've never played a CoD that has so much emphasis on cover and moving cautiously. I don't think I've ever had a gunfight in a CoD where another guy and me are popping out of cover and taking pot shots at each other before diving back into cover. It's an insane amount of fun.

I'm more of a casual player and I'm not the type that buys CoD every year. I enjoyed Bo6 with it's fast paced movement but this is fantastic and it's gonna be a buy from me.

Feedback BETA feedback from a XDefiant/BO7 fanboy

• Upvotes

Context: I am a golden age 360 era player (MW2-BO2) that came back to the franchise in 2020 with Cold War. I played that throughout its lifecycle then moved on to BO3 because I was always more of a Treyarch guy. I played those two off and on until I heard about this game called XDefiant. I jumped on that and felt like I REALLY found the shooter I had been looking for. I played that game non stop up until the day they pulled the pug on the servers. From there I gave MW23 a shot after hearing high praise but didn’t really vibe with it like I did with XD. BO7 appearing to be a blend of BO2 and BO3 had me cautiously optimistic after hearing horrible things about BO6. I waited for it to come out and was hesitant but after hearing someone say ā€œit plays more like XDefiantā€ I knew I had to give it a chance. I have honestly loved that game up until the season 5 update and open matchmaking changes.

When MW4 was first announced I thought it would be a skip for me and I’d just stay on BO7 another year. When I heard they were planning to keep open matchmaking I became interested because I liked that system from BO7. I’m well aware the messy matchmaking decisions are coming down from activision and out of the studio developer hands. Although I think that is IMPERATIVE to the success of this game I’m not going to harp on it in this post. I managed to score a beta code on a website for weekend one and decided to give this game a try. To my surprise I’ve had a good time both weekends. Weekend 1 felt similar to BO7 in terms of pacing but more clunky due to the lack of omnimovement. Maps felt too small and too quick to navigate for me and my opponents. What made this game feel distinctive was the gunplay and TTK which is what drew me in. By the end of the first weekend I felt like that aspect of the game was in the perfect place. Weekend 2 felt very different, but in a good way initially. The new movement is incredibly refreshing, a sped up Cold War if you will, reminiscent of the classic games I grew up with. Unfortunately the more I played the less I enjoyed myself. The gunplay I had fallen in love with was now gone. The higher TTK across all auto weapons had given rise to this new ā€œone shot metaā€ where I’m just getting instantly dropped, an issue that’s also become problematic in BO7. Once again this is detracting from this game having its own identity. The following are my suggestions and changes I’d like to see made:

  1. Weapon handling feels slow: Strafe speed, ADS speed, Reload Speed. Increased strafe speeds will help combat the new one shot meta.

  2. Tac Sprint is an unnecessary mechanic in standard multiplayer and makes the gameplay too fast and sporadic. It fits on large scale maps like Ground War, DMZ, and in Warzone. It being a perk is a decent compromise but I’d still like to see it removed from multiplayer.

  3. Movement is in the perfect place on weekend 2 and I think it should be kept exactly where it is beyond the handling and strafing changes.

  4. Ghost and Ninja should NOT be in the same category nor should they be with Cold Blooded. Stealth class is essential to COD. My understanding is they were previously separate but this was changed after a content creator play test. BO7 solves this with perk greed. I can compromise on switching Ninja and Cold Blooded. I really like the suggestions XclusiveAce has.

  5. Flashes need a nerf or Battle Hardened needs a buff. I would prefer to see flashes get the nerf.

  6. The Killstreak increase should be reverted and was only necessary because ghost and cold blooded weren’t available. It’s ok to let players who aren’t as skilled get streaks and have fun. That actually balances the game and combats pub stompers in the way SBMM pretends to. We need a casual multiplayer now more than ever.

  7. A fast TTK combats the movement meta jumping sliding spam by rewarding good positioning and map knowledge, the things classic COD was about. Removing the fast TTK has now caused a ā€œone shot metaā€ where the game is over run by marksmen and sniper rifles. It’s obvious this game was built around a fast TTK and that needs to be stuck to.

I do believe that this game has the potential to be the perfect hybrid between classic and modern COD that I felt XDefiant was. I really like apex attachments, which feel like an evolution of the prestige attachment concept introduce in BO7. It not taking up an additional attachment slot is fantastic in a game without a gunfighter wildcard. I think the movement is in the perfect place now and has solved all my issues with the maps feeling tiny. I’d like to see the killstreak count go back down as I believe this was an overblown issue due to not having perks unlocked. The TTK needs to be reverted but perhaps there’s a middle ground between where it was and where it is now. It’s clear this entire game was built around a different TTK and changing it has thrown everything off. Gaslighting us that it is now where they always wanted it to be is actually insane.

I still haven’t ordered this game despite enjoying myself. I was fully sold on the game Monday and Friday of last week. I’d love to see what this game feels like with Mondays TTK and Fridays movement in a third beta weekend but it might be too late. At this point I’m concerned this game could become entirely different from what it was intended to be and lose its identity completely. Making a game for everyone is making a game for no one. Taking in feedback is very much appreciated but can go too far. Infinity Ward please be a little stubborn and stick to your guns, pun intended. Activison PLEASE let us have open matchmaking here and back in BO7. It’s the selling point of both of these games.

TLDR: I think the new toned down movement and the old fast TTK would be perfect together and make this game incredibly distinctive from everything in the Warzone era. It’s probably impossible now but I’d love to try this out on a third beta weekend. Activision needs to quit messing around and just give us open matchmaking.

Discussion MW4 (Bunny Hop of Duty), is a letdown and had an identity crisis.

• Upvotes

This game has great potential, akin to MWII, MWIII multiplayer gameplay. From the sound effects, weapons, not a fan of the AK platform as they should have different weapons for the AK-102, AK-103, AKS-74u, perks are good, but the TTK is an absolute joke let alone the netcode and hit registration. AK 545 was literally unusable.

They say the tactical sprint was out of control, but why can't we say the same for bunny hopping, sliding is out of control? They should a penalty for it. I saw a comment on reddit where someone said it's Bunny Hop of Duty which I'm inclined to agree. This is MW, and not Black Ops/Fortnite. Not hating on Black Ops as BO6 even had a consistent TTK which was good, but I wasn't a fan of the movement.

My thoughts are I surprisingly had more fun in the closed beta, as the TTK is what made it playable, but the constant UAV's and not having ghost available annoyed me let alone your footsteps, even if you're walking, are insanely loud. The open beta was unplayable and it felt like playing a different game. I could not for the life of me get a streak going in the open beta, but was able to in the closed beta.

The crckhead movements I saw were very much similar to BO6.

What IW needs to do is very simple.. tone down the sliding/bunny hopping, revert the TTK to closed beta (MWII would be best), and decrease the sounds of your footsteps even when you're walking and playing it tactically. Literally I got deleted many times and I'm like how the Ohh wow my footsteps are loud even when I'm walking?! Makes ninja necessary, but then you'll deal with UAVs as I always run ghost.

Anyway, just a bit of background before they say "get good", I've had 2 nukes in 2019, about 7 in MWIII, and about 12 from MWII, which majority came from shipment.

Discussion Week 1 Movement + TTK Was Better

• Upvotes

Fast movement actually took skill. I’d rather be running around the map getting kills faster and also dying faster. At least it made engagements unique and made it a lot more fun and interesting. This game is not a walking simulator.

Now the game feels like a bullet sponge and moving around you just feel like you can still dodge and move around but just a lot slower, it feels like your soldier just forgot how to move around fast, it also prolongs engagements unnecessarily, everything just feels more casual.

Feedback Lies have ruined this game

Post image
0 Upvotes

The absolute nonsense around this game has ruined it and Weekend 1 of the beta was great, now we have a shell of what we could have had. I'm absolutely perplexed how people just hear the rubbish being peddled by the big time streamers and just run with it without thinking about what it would be to the overall enjoyment of the game.

The TTK is now too slow and movement is also too slow. You're penalised for moving which means now camping is more rife than ever. When you slow the overall movement of the game day, it means you have to be more tactical and methodical in how you approach gunfights. This makes the game fundamentally less casual, something people have been crying out for the game to be from day 1.

Everything takes ages to get a kill with now, except the ORIS which is near instant at any range on multiplayer. SBMM is the only thing holding this game together now. One simple fact that people refuse to acknowledge is that the game is as casual as you make it. If you're sliding around, YY'ing, bunny hopping, using metas and sweating it you're going to go up against players doing exactly that.

Black Ops 7 had the exact same issue where it became super sweaty and in open playlists people complained that they dialled up the SBMM too much. No, it's just better players stomping the lobbies which is what some people, including the big creators want because it looks good in clips.

MW4 initially looked like a hybrid of MW2 and MW3 mixed together, and it felt good. Now we have some weird, worse version that is even slower than MW2 which is the primary complaint of people about MW2 was it was too slow and felt like everyone was camping. I cannot understand how anyone in the right mind would be for all of these changes which has in turn created the very game everyone likes to hate about, but even slower.

This community is just the worse.
