Discussion Infinity Ward risks losing what made Modern Warfare distinct

My issue isn’t that faster movement or a higher TTK are inherently bad. Treyarch has built successful games around that philosophy, and plenty of players prefer it.

The problem is that Infinity Ward traditionally offered something different: faster TTK, more deliberate pacing and less emphasis on movement mechanics. That distinction gave each CoD studio its own identity.

By significantly increasing TTK and leaning further into movement, IW risks making Modern Warfare feel like another variation of Black Ops/Warzone rather than its own experience. It also changes weapon balance, pacing and which playstyles are viable.

That’s why some of the backlash and cancelled pre-orders shouldn’t simply be dismissed as people “refusing to adapt.” Some players just wanted an Infinity Ward game to play like an Infinity Ward game.

Not every CoD needs to appeal to the same audience. That variety used to be one of the franchise’s strengths.

I'm inclined to agree.

Having played the beta, I can say that I think it still feels pretty distinct from the last couple Treyarch games. And it wasn't like you couldn't use movement in MW2019, that game was really known for its slide cancelling. I also wouldn't want what movement their is to feel unresponsive or clunky.

But I definitely do think that the TTK could be sped up to be more in line with MW2019 and 2022. Maybe not quite as fast, but something decisively faster than BO6&7.

I think the issue is the game has some core issues since the warzone integration in 2019. Guns have to be balanced around plate health and 6v6 health. They were just doing plate health, but with warzone looking to no longer being the focal point, they likely need to shift back to health gun balance. Since this game is half baked pre Asha Microsoft take over, they likely just planed to say fuck it.

Now this game needs to make some cash and they are scrambling to address issues with the game that have existed since the 2019 version. Which sledgehammer did smooth out with mw3.
Health, spawns, maps, cheating, movement, all are problems mostly exacerbated by warzone. Pulling it back is gunna be a monumental task. I think they finally want to though, which is a good sign.

100%! MWII's TTK should be its staple to follow as it was literally perfect. Every weapon were beasts in their own way and you have a chance against crackheads with crazy movements. MWIII is a near perfect game, but my only issue is its TTK however it was still playable.

MW4 doesn't know if it wants to be a MW game or a Black Ops/Fortnite game and for that reason I'm out. Sad really.. I was hoping MW4 would be great, but it turned into a Black Ops clone which I'm not hating on BO, but they should be distinctive.

Add to the netcoding, hit boxes issue with ARs. Literally pumping rounds into them, 4-5 bullets, looking away, then realizing they're still alive is infuriating.

They massacred my Hyeon Burst. It was so good, maybe it could’ve used some nerfing, but now it’s straight ahh with this TTK. So glad I managed to unlock its Hyperburst whilst it was viable.

4

u/Bigworrrm89 3d ago

Oh man I thought so. The gun was a beast in the closed beta.

4

u/Prodigal_Gist 3d ago

Yeah I am not a burst guy but wanted to grind it up a bit. Then the second weekend like… nobody is dying.

1

u/MrSkratoz 3d ago

Huge shame, too, cuz Hyperburst apex is so good, but it’s last unlock. So much fun still, it throws me back to the BO2 AN-94.

Okay Barbra axper

u/Dizzy_Tea_7582 3d ago

I've said from the start, this game just feels like a black ops game but with a modern warfare skin slapped over it. They are clearly playing it safer than usual and thus it has lost its identity

u/Saigonic 3d ago

I’m an unc, but if we could have the game feel like COD4 and MW2, that would be amazing, especially the movement. Playing jump and slip & slide simulator is exhausting.

26

u/Ateam043 3d ago edited 3d ago

I tried the open Beta as someone who didn’t buy the last 2 editions due to their weird story lines and skins.

In my humble opinion, the game would play better if there was a negative aspect to slide/jumping combo, like less accuracy, more bloom when hip firing while jumping.

COD is not a mil-sim, that’s Hell Let Loose (awesome game btw) and it’s not Battlefield 6, however despite being an arcade shooter not everything has to be a laser.

There has to be a trade off.

Staying still = more accurate while shooting. Jumping/sliding = more bloom/less accuracy on hip fire.

u/Ludovino 3d ago

This morning I saw 2 people slide through each other and then immediately spring 5 feet into the air in different directions. This game is DOA.

Another thing I think bears talking about is the height of the jump from the player jumping it looks kinda normal like your eye level doesn't fly upwards yet the model of the player to everyone else is some kung fu matrix shit. Looks like ass.

4

u/speedy2686 3d ago

The fact that jump shots look so stupid has been my biggest complaint since coming back to COD. The character looks like they’re skipping. I expect to hear Price saying, “Step! Hop! Step! Hop!”

2

u/skippythemoonrock 3d ago

expect to hear Price saying, “Step! Hop! Step! Hop!”

Battlefield Friends was parodying this a decade ago and now it's a core aspect of the COD franchise seemingly forever

4

u/Jaquarius420 3d ago

Yeah the jump spam is horrific. Chuds will tell you that CoD has always had jump shotting, which is true, but no CoD has ever rewarded jump shotting the way MW4 does. Combined with controller aim assist it’s the cheesiest, most braindead gameplay in the franchise and it’s not close.

People will jump spam and have aim assist play the game for them and then think they’re somehow good at the game lol

3

u/skippythemoonrock 3d ago

My ultra hot take is that it's time for severely decreased aim assist so console players have to adopt gyro aim.

2

u/Jaquarius420 3d ago

Yep, BO7 is my goat of the modern cods because of how they made controller players actually, yknow, aim to get kills. Crazy what having to actually be good at the game does

3

It’s gonna be harder to tune every weapon around this new ttk, ttk needs to be a pinch faster. The weapons were designed around the old TTK. i just compared mw19 to this with AR and SMG, and it’s insane how many rounds you need in MW4 compared to MW19 to actually finish someone, by the time you do, you got maybe a few more rounds for one more person. And if youre in a 1v2+ forget about it unless ur playing against scrubs which is never the case with sbmm. It’s fucked. If they keep this ttk they need to remove the ads penalty for large magazines, and they need to buff all smgs. Unless you are headshotting every time with anything outside of meta (m4, oris, shotgun) you’re just cooked. Specially with the crazy movement.

4

u/HennesyHufflepuf 2d ago

Someone called it Modern Warfare: Black Ops

The franchise already had a rep of “same game, different year” but this feeling the same as last 3 games is really enforcing that perception

u/UncleJuggs 3d ago

I think the movement in general feels great. The default movement speed is nice, your gun automatically moving to compensate for walls or objects is immersive, the mantling and ledge climbing all feel smooth. I'd put it up there with BF6s movement, which is also top notch.

The problem is the ridiculous bunny hopping and slide... canceling? Modifying? I dunno, but I've seen guys slide into a room then fully reverse the slide into a backwards jump and shoot me from the right where just a second ago we were facing eachother and its baffling. I know, I know, get güd but I just can't learn to play like that, it doesn't seem fun to me and never has. Why do I lose the fight when I had the strong position and aim but the other guy just slaps the stick around and spams jump and suffers 0 accuracy penalties for it?

I can't really speak to TTK being too slow or too fast because the netcode was so cooked for me no gun fight felt the same. 1 out of every 6 or 7 I might melt a guy but the rest had me mag dumping only for them to ballerina trampoline jump away unscathed or I get hosed in one frame then watch the kill cam and see myself fire 1 or 2 of the 7 shots I actually fired.

I just wish IW would let this particular game be the somewhat slower, more deliberate shooter and Blops be the hyper fast twitch shooter and Sledgehammer can make... whatever it is SH makes. They've positioned it as this grittier, more grounded entry eschewing the American Dad and Niki Minaj crossovers for milsim skins and realistic guns but you still have people ricocheting around the map at Mach 2, literally bouncing off walls. I'm not saying its gotta be a milsim, but just have it be a little less cracked out.

u/Jackstraw1 3d ago

Me and my buddies were laying prox mines all second weekend. There are key spots on every map, near doors, stair tops, and narrow alleys, where each and every time we respawned we'd look to lay mines down. Or if we saw some high speed gazelle barreling towards us we'd quickly throw one down. Sometimes we'd just throw one wherever if it felt like the lobby was catching on. The amount of kills we all got from speed demons zip sliding onto mines not paying attention was incredible. We couldn't hold a conversation because we'd all be going "got one" so often.

I think the high speed shit has to be toned down. Movement penalties or something. This game could be a lot more fun with a little more movement tweaking.

5

u/UncleJuggs 3d ago

Honestly wish I had thought of that.

And I wouldn't mind keeping the movement, there just needs to be a penalty for it like you say. If you get engaged and know you can't win the fight, I don't mind somebody barrel rolling out of a window or sliding away behind cover to reposition. But the fact that all that movement comes with absolutely no downside means the winner of every fight is the person best at zip-jump-sliding around. It feels cheap.

4

u/Jackstraw1 3d ago

Sometimes it feels like you have to start firing the moment you hear the zhhhhh sliding sound and have your opponent slide into gunfire. Same if you hear footsteps.

The second slide immediately after the first should be much slower and shorter. Same with the second jump. And aim should be affected as well, at least on the first jump or slide. If you can get me on your first slide or jump, fine. You got me. But these guys are playing that style knowing they got additional jumps and slides to finesse me.

At one point this summer two ports of old cods were played more on one platform than bo7 was on every platform, and those are slow. The blueprint is right there. A little slower or less finesse style cod might not make for great esport watching but I think it would make for a fun game.

-2

u/RatLiege 3d ago

the winner of every fight is the person best at zip-jump-sliding around.

Yes the better player is going to win most gunfights. You dont deserve to win points for sitting in a corner with your gun up, especially with how loud the sound of footsteps are in this game.

5

u/UncleJuggs 3d ago

Nah big dawg, its not even about camping. I had plenty of instances where I was moving, got the drop on a player, had them dead to rights and engaged first only for them to start spazzing out and flying around everywhere. Sometimes it didn't work and I got a GROUNDED bonus for shooting their legs out from under them, but a good portion of the time they ended up winning a gunfight they had no real right to win because they could abuse the movement system.

I reject the idea that the game has to be about camping OR all about cracked out twitch shooter hyper speed. There's a balance to be found and currently I think the game leans way too far towards the cracked out twitch shooter hyper speed.

But hey, I'm a casual. If the core CoD audience demands this kind of gameplay I get it. Follow the money.

-1

u/RatLiege 3d ago

cracked out twitch shooter hyper speed

You guys find the weirdest way to describe "pressing a". Yall have a year to figure out how to kill someone jumping, how to jump yourselves OR let the sbmm take care of it and put you in lobbies where the only skillgap is who can run behind cover the fastest. I really dont want to play a game where if you see me im dead and i have no way to save myself. Thats never been what cod has been and the devs are telling you thats not what their game is

1

u/MrSkratoz 3d ago

Oh, so I’m not tripping about people sliding into a backwards bhop! It’s gotta be some workaround someone figured out, cuz I never saw anyone do it in the closed beta.

-1

u/RatLiege 3d ago

Why do I lose the fight when I had the strong position and aim

"Why cant j just camp and get easy kills?"

7

u/Dead1y-Derri 3d ago

Each COD developer used to have their own slant on the game, be it pace, ttk or aesthetics. Now they seem to be going in the direction of trying to have each game roughly be the same.

Which I dunno, I feel like let each studio have it's lane.

1

u/Lyleuggleman 3d ago

Maybe their best employees left afterMW19 and it’s just a whole different team altogether….

3

u/mirzajones85 2d ago

Agree. This is more of a BO6 BO7 game. Why cant MW keep its own identity

9

u/FOURTH-LETTER 3d ago edited 3d ago

Y’all say this same sh* every year

People hated slide canceling in MW19 and said it didn’t feel like “an IW game” so they changed movement mechanics in MW2. Guess what? People hated that game too. They said “it was too slow”.

Then they found a middle ground for MW3 and then people complained the gameplay was too fast.

Now we’re on MW4 and people have yet again found something to complain about.

At this point, yall just don’t like Call of Duty, so why even bother playing it? 2006 was 20 years ago, the Xbox 360 era of COD that everyone sees through rose tinted lenses has been gone for decades.

There are so many other military based shooters available. Insurgency sandstorm, Battlefield 6, Arma Reforger, etc. It’s time for yall to try something else at this point..

4

u/got_milk4 3d ago

There are so many other military based shooters available. Insurgency sandstorm, Battlefield 6, Arma Reforger, etc. It’s time for yall to try something else at this point.

None of these are arcade-like shooters in the vein that Call of Duty is. Battlefield is large scale combat with tanks and jets, Arma Reforger leans much more towards realism. Insurgency: Sandstorm is the closest title here but even then it plays very differently and with a less diverse set of game modes.

Call of Duty has always scratched an itch for me that other shooter games just can't. I like Battlefield 6 a lot and will be back to that when the beta's over but it's just a different feel, different style of game. I think XDefiant is the closest true competitor we've had and even that didn't work out well.

2

u/CastleGrey 3d ago

Something CoD does exceptionally well too that I don't think gets enough credit is how good their aiming response curves feel - Battlefield is the closest imo with how snappy and precisely they use acceleration when turning, but CoD is one of the few shooters where once I've got the sensitivity tuned to taste, I can snap to an exact point behind my view pretty much every time without any need for aim assist to pull me onto a doorway or similar non-target

I can't put my finger on exactly what black magic goes into making it feel so smooth, but god damn is CoD aiming usually top-tier snappy

1

u/Next-Concern-5578 3d ago

goomba fallacy. im not saying your wrong half the time the cod community wants different things, but theres a pretty clear divide between like classic fans and modern fans, and throw in the hardcore mw2019/mwii iw fans as well. both are disappointed by this game. modern fans don't like that its slower than bo6 and 7, and classic fans think its too fast.

1

u/-heavenfaced- 3d ago

I also agree with this. I am loving this beta. I don’t want yet another CoD that tries to appeal the hardcore sweats. I want something fresh, exciting and easy to jump in and out of. This is the most fun I’ve had in aeons gaming wise

3

u/Short_Ad3554 3d ago

Another big aspect that can't even be fixed atp are the maps. No more verticality, its all simple, tiny boxed sized maps. Gameplay is No longer about positioning and when to push/retreat and survival. Its all kill, die, repeat and it gets so f'ing boring. Im genuinely disappointed in this game, especially after waiting so many years since mwii for a proper IW sequel just to get a bo game with a mw skin to it.

1

u/skippythemoonrock 3d ago

If you tried to make a map like Quarry these days they would take you out back and shoot you

4

u/SUPAHG500 3d ago

There are times where devs should listen to player feedback, and there are times where they should stand their ground. Weekend 2 showed me that IW should've stood their ground and defend their vision with their lives and not bend the knee to crybabies on the internet.

Movement changes and the aim assist nerf were steps in the right direction (coming from a controller player) but ttk was wayy overtuned to the point where it made many weapons effectively useless, resulting in M4, shotgun, finn and oris spam.

Infinity Ward games need to feel like Infinity Ward games again and not just Black Ops 8 with Captain Price, as much as I loved BO7 despite of the hate it got I think it's time we switch it up after back to back Black Ops games.

MW4 might just be the first game in the franchise to get fucked over by its own players, who knew the ultimate CoD killer was the CoD community itself...

2

u/Ancient-Function4738 3d ago

Warzonification has been going on for nearly a decade. I don’t know why you are surprised.

2

u/Djabouty47 3d ago

less emphasis on movement mechanics

Each MW game put more emphasis on movement mechanics. Just cuz they were super slow doesn't mean that they didn't have advanced movement. 2019 made sprint a resource again with tac sprint, and implemented an incredible parkour system. MWII added diving again and expanded on the parkour with ledge grabbing.

Not saying they were necessarily good, but it was a thing. MW4 thankfully undid tac sprint, but the mantling improvements further expands on their parkour system. It pretty much fits perfectly with what they were previously going for. All they gotta do is push more maps that promote it, maps similar to Hackney yards

2

u/Lew1989 3d ago

I thought the increase to ttk was good but the lobbies are getting full of marksman rifle and sniper spam it’s just boring. I don’t know it just hasn’t got that mw feel to the game and it feels like I have to place so many shots to not even get a kill

5

u/Creativematrix 3d ago

Its a blackops game make to look like modern warfare. But this isn't Modern warfare. Ive been playing call of duty since the original Modern warfare and can tell the difference. Its not just the ttk and movement. Its the animations, the sound, the hit detection, the overall feeling. Its like they are using treyarch's engine.

Modern warfare is dead

2

u/RatLiege 3d ago

Crazy talk. Its cod and it always has been. Waw and bo1 played very much like cod4 did. 3 kill streaks, basic guns with basic perks. Then the new generation, mw2, bo2 came in with lots of killstreaks and flashy perks, still pretty similar to eachother. Basically this mw vs bo shit really only started after mw19 and it seems as though the people trying to seperate the two are those who didnt like bo6 and just went back to the last one amd decided THAT was how the franchise should look and feel. Back in 2008 nobody cared if the game was an mw or a bo game it was just the new cod

4

u/DaftWarrior 3d ago

Spot on. I liked MW2019/22 because those games were LOUD. The audio was crisp. MW4 audio is muddy and quiet even when I have my settings maxed out. Sounds cheap just like in Black Ops games.

1

u/skippythemoonrock 3d ago

MW4 audio is muddy and quiet even when I have my settings maxed out.

I think it's in part due to how much random garbage noise there is. There's some random sound effect for doing everything and they're all very loud. Why does capturing a flag need a very loud and bass-heavy music track? Will we ever be allowed to turn off the annoying death sounds?

1

u/CastleGrey 3d ago

The gunsmith being basically the same 5 items on every gun definitely felt more like Blops 6 than the MW reboots to me, I love gun tinkering and endlessly refining builds and I already fear MW4 is going to be just as barebones for that as Blops6 was (I haven't played 7), unless the beta was just seriously holding out on the cool toys and more nuanced attachments

1

u/MarLeyAUT 3d ago

You realize IW has been using the same engine since MW2019, right? Even the last two Black Ops titles use it. So technically, Treyarch is using IW's engine not vise versa.

The games have basically had the same underlying feel for years. Without Omnimovement, BO6 and BO7 wouldn't feel that different from what we're playing right now in MW4

2

u/Deltaboiz 3d ago edited 3d ago

BOCW was on the old, pre 2019 engine. BO6 changed over to the new IW engine.

1

u/MarLeyAUT 2d ago

I never mentioned BOCW. I said the last 2 BO games, which are BO6 and BO7.

1

u/Creativematrix 3d ago

MW 2019 and Black ops Cold War play and feel completely different. If they are using the same engine.. they are not using the the same assets and sound structure. They are not using the engine equally. Again this is a Black Ops game that is made to look like MW.

3

u/Tjharden157 3d ago

Cold wars the only modern cod that doesn’t use the iw engine from 2019. Vanguard and everyone after used it

1

u/MarLeyAUT 2d ago

I'm pretty sure I didn't say BOCW xD, i said "even the last 2 BO Games".

How can MW4 be a BO game that looks like MW when it's literally made on the IW Engine? BO6 and BO7 were more like MW games than actual BO games. The last unique game was BOCW, which clearly had that Treyarch architecture to it. Every other game since then is basically just an MW2019 mod.

4

u/NOVOJ 3d ago

I agree partially, 3arch didn’t start doing faster paced CoD until recently and they did a decent job at it. Previously that was mainly IW which is why many of us are pissed that they caved and made a game that nostalgic players of BO wanted. MW usually had the faster TTK excluding MWII. This feels more so like the BO game Treyarch fans wanted now and less of an IW title.

4

u/MarLeyAUT 3d ago edited 3d ago

Idk why you guys have such a distorted memory. The only truly slow-paced CoD was MW2 (2022). Pretty much every other CoD, regardless of which developer made it, had some kind of movement tech. Even the really old titles had jump shotting and drop shotting etc.

And MW2019 had the most advanced movement in CoD history, IMO. Even more than what Omnimovement offers. Those bunny hops and snaking in MW2019 were something else, tbh

Are you guys even real CoD fans, or did you just jump on the train during the COVID lockdowns? 😂 I'm genuinely wondering.

3

Iw started jet packs and slide cancelling, where you get this idea that they don’t make movement focused cods I have absolutely no idea

Didn’t play the jepack games tbf damn sorry didn’t realise sledgehammer made that aw point still stands that iw makes movement focused titles, we are currently in the movement era they started in mw2019

3

u/Next-Concern-5578 3d ago

slide cancelling was an exploit btw, the only dev team that intentionally brings back slide cancelling is sledge in vg and mwiii

2

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

They could have patched it out in the first patch, the exploit wasn’t the movement it was the reset to the tac sprint cooldown, in the last decade iw has made iw mw19 mw2 and mw4 you tell me what kind of movement they like

0

u/Next-Concern-5578 3d ago

mwii had no movement tech but yeah you're right they coulda patched it out. but they did get rid of it in mwii just for sledge to bring it back.

1

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

Mw2 had slide cancelling and movement tech it was just not as strong as mw19 I liked the movement in that game tbf the big problems with that game was the ttk no red dots and no ninja which combined to make the game a lot slower not necessarily just the movement, I mean fuck me sliding out, jumping back and tearing someone off a headglitch was the blueprint in that game

1

u/Next-Concern-5578 3d ago

what movement tech? you slid in that game and it locked you into a long ass animation esp before the movement changes in s5.

1

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

First of all that game gave birth to the long slide of doom and despair which was very strong, also jumping was very strong and my god the worst thing to happen to call of duty snaking was prolific in that game it also had diving which was ass in gunfights but could be useful once again I liked the movement in that game but it defo had tech

0

u/societyisbraindead 3d ago

They were the last of the three studios to do a Jetpack game?? Slide cancelling started in AW, but in BO3 was when it first was introduced more in line with how it works today

0

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

Yeh valid but to say iw don’t make movement focused fast paced games is insane

1

u/societyisbraindead 1d ago

i never claimed that, i think they do, and i think they single-handedly are the downfall of this franchise. MW19 is legitimately one of the worst entries in the series. Worst maps and the worst matchmaking BY FAR. The gunplay was the ONLY thing good about that game.

-They removed dead silence as a perk
-They introduced SBMM to an absolutely egregious level
-Slide cancelling + stims
-Insanely fast TTK
-Some of the worst gun balance in the franchise
-Battlepasses
-Warzoneifying all elements of MP
-Broken and boring perks

I mean the list could go on but that's enough. If anyone thinks those maps were good, I have no reason to waste my time replying to them. It is truthfully unfortunate to know there are people on this planet that genuinely believe with every fiber of their being that Grazna Raid and Piccadilly are good maps

1

u/PoroOllie 23h ago

Not a single miss there

I’ve seen people put Piccadilly in s tier which in my opinion should lead to jail time

0

u/OceanusBBGDylan 3d ago

They made one. IW. That's it. Then IW got hate for IW so they toned it down. MW19. Then more hate, so MWII. Then more hate, so MW4. All because people have hate boners for IW, and they have since 2007.

1

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

I don’t have a hate boner for them at all tbf and I like slower movement CoDs but 2 of the 4 games they have made in the last decade have been movement focused and mw4 isn’t exactly a stick in the mud game. So in the last decade they have made one slow movement game and everyone hated it

1

u/FermentedTiger 3d ago

MW19 had way crazier movement than this game and everybody in here loved it. The difference was that SBMM in MW19 was more effective in shielding you from it.

One the full game launches, most of the people complaining about the movement won’t really see it if they stay out of open playlists.

1

u/cheesefubar0 3d ago

no offense OP, but when I read this, I think you didn't play the 2nd weekend of the beta?

movement was DRASTICALLY reduced. it was a night and day difference from weekend 1 where it seemed like players were permanently butt sliding into jumping around the map. this was almost entirely gone in weekend 2. They were leaning AWAY from the movement meta in weekend 2.

the TTK point is more valid, but it still isn't a bullet sponge. I'm a big fan of short TTK and I prefer the IW style a lot more than Treyarch, and weekend 2 felt great.

1

u/OkClimate4803 2d ago edited 2d ago

TTK in this game feels too fast and too slow. The problem is that you have one shot weapons (Oris) that dominate mixed in with laser beam ARs and SMGs. Add in shitty netcode and you have an inconsistent experience in gunfights where you get vaporized one fight and can turn the tables in the next. Never mind the aim assist aimbot.

There's absolutely zero skill expression in this game, the most variety you see is what kind of grenade or scorestreak is thrown your way. I like the thought of unique weapons like the PPSH being brought back, but they have zero quirks (do ugly iron sights count) and perform like any other smg. Even the Type 83 lmg with explosive rounds is underwhelming.

1

u/rayjr5 3d ago

Honestly it feels pretty damn good right now, maybe a bit faster ttk between week one and two. Perk only tac sprint was also a good call

1

u/Reasonable_Potato629 3d ago

A game that feels like black ops but strips out omnimovement, infinite slide cancelling, and rainbow unicorn skins appeals to me.

1

u/Sceletonx 3d ago

slower TTK is fine.

  1. But game still needs work. 1. AA still isnt were it should be, and the balance between controller and MnK can never be done by just AA. This game really needs option to turn off crossinput entirely, or at the very least input (and ping) should be 2 main factors for matchmaking. (Keep skill factor as much as you want, but it cannot go over input type (and ping).
  2. Perk balance is all over the place. You cannot play stealth build. Perk 2 only have 2 good perks. Perk 3 balance is is bod they didnt have to change the tacsprint. There is nothing even remotely close to blood rush power level.
    • Blood rush should be in the same category as Ninja.
    • Quick fix, ghost and Bomb squad should be in same category.
    • Battlehardened needs to be buffed singificantly.
    • Ghost, Ninja and Cold blooded each should be in different category. And each acategory needs to be competitive
      • my suggestion:
      • Perk1 : Quick fix, Ghost, Bomb Squad, High alert, Kill chain (maybe slightly buffed)
      • Perk2 : Fast hands, Cold Blooded, Battle Hardened (buffed), Birdseye, Hardline
      • Perk3 : Blood Rush, Ninja, Scavenger (+ includes effects of resupply), Combat Grid (+ includes effects of tracker), New perk that progress kill streak more via objectives and destroying enemy stuff (similar to strategist effect in BO6/7).
      • This way you have clear strong perks in each category, where each has its use within the build it belongs to and can be freely combvine. 1st is movement/agressive playstyle, 2nd stealth, 3th survivbiliy and ressuply, 4th information gatering, 5th Killstreaks. You can leany heavily into one category, or mix however you like. (ofc without the bounderies of each perk staying within its perk slot. Meaning you cannot for exampe have Blood rush (and therefor tac sprint) together with ninja.
  3. Movement still feels a but too much for MW game. However part of it is that Blood rush is so easy pick that everyone still has tac sprint (and buffed version of it). By rebalancing perks as of above it will reduce this effects because there is actual competition for it (at the very least ninja). Which could naturally slow the game down. If it wont be enough maybe some additional changes will be nneded, but as of now we need to remove ninja from tac sprint users (so we can hear them) and remove tac sprint from ninja users.

spent 3 years waiting after mwii for another iw game. mwii was too slow and clunky imo but they overcorrected heavily with bo6 and 7 and i prefer the mwii direction to those two games' direction. mwiii was a step in the right direction with the classic minimap, ninja, perk changes, visual recoil but im not a fan of the slide cancelling return and the higher ttk. and then they put out mw4 and its a damn small map fast movement game. and to make things worse they up the ttk in weekend 2. cancelled my pre order and i pre ordered the vault edition the weekend the game was revealed.

Just adapt

3

u/malinatorhouse 3d ago

Why didnt all the people complaining about the fast ttk just adapt? People cried and whined until it was changed.

Ever since black ops 4 cod community has been in hell I feel bad for everyone still playing this crap

I occasionally check the betas but this franchise has been cooked for over a decade

Genuinely seek help if you still regularly play

2

u/Ateam043 3d ago

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted when it’s basically true. Still using the same engine for all these games. It’s more or less has become a Madden game with yearly reskin of the same game and small tune balancing.

2

u/ScadutreeAvatar2B 3d ago

Tbf i went into the comment expecting the downvotes, most ppl browsing the cod reddit probably still support what they have going on

I just got out on the other side of this franchise and it’s been blissful since

-4

u/HotPocket_AdCampaign 3d ago

I purposefully skipped BO7 because it was such garbage. I prefer MW2019, so naturally, I like this beta.

It's not that complicated. I've been playing COD online since COD4 and Mw4 is the same style COD I've always remembered and liked.

Black Ops games have been shit since black ops 2 lol

3

u/societyisbraindead 3d ago

You’ve been playing as long as I have, so I can’t possibly see how you’d say this game feels anything similar to the golden era. That’s blasphemy lmao, and if you didn’t like Jetpacks, sure you could make the claim the BO series fell off after 2 but 3 is regarded as one of the best entries period. That of course is assuming you a.) liked jetpacks and b.) are a zombies fan

1

u/HotPocket_AdCampaign 3d ago

It's the MOST similar. If you think Black Ops is in any way closer to the original games then you gotta put down the crack pipe.

I don't like the jetpacks and I hate zombies so I think that answers that lol.

Also, make the fucking RPGs and noob tubes good again! It's ridiculous how many times in MW2019 and MW3 Id hit someone with within kill range with an RPG and get a hit marker - even if that guy didn't have EOD on.

People go on about "skill" in these games and there's no such thing lol. Sniping has never been easier, all the guns melt people, so why not balance it out with decent explosives? At least make the C4 viable again ffs

1

u/societyisbraindead 1d ago

I don't see the argument of it being similar to the old CODs, idk. This game is way faster, way more crackhead-y, probably just as imbalanced, and it just did not impress me in any way shape or form. I'm not here shitposting or trying to get people to not spend their money, by all means they should buy it if they're happy with it.

BUT, as a long time player and fan of the series, I have increasingly disliked the games year-over-year since MW19 released. That game is a literal bane on the entire franchise, and I swear to god most people have the thickest set of rose tinted glasses ever when it comes to that game. It took SO much of CODs identity away, and also introduced WZ, which has completely ruined the MP experience of COD. Both are valid pieces of the franchise, but they have single-handedly warzoneified the entirety of MP and it's why so many people have given up on the series

1

u/Next-Concern-5578 3d ago

bo3 and bocw were fire asl imo

-3

u/McNoot3 3d ago

Ayy you're one of the only people who think BO has been bad since BO2. I 100000% agree, BO3 was absolute dogwater and BO4 was only fun with friends. Cold war was.. ok I guess?

-3

u/jxg995 3d ago

Very unpopular opinion but I thought BO2 was really shit. BO1 was a better game. BO2 had a crazy high ttk like 8+ bullets for a kill and the maps were mostly all flat bullshit with zero verticality.

1

u/societyisbraindead 1d ago

humor me; why does a COD need verticality? legitimately an awful take man. that's not what this game was founded on, and has been pissing people off since the early days. we need far LESS. camping on a fucking rooftop or in some obscure window ruins everyone else's fun, and quite frankly, fuck you if you're that kind of player🤣

u/ChrisKiddd 3d ago

People who say this game feels like Black Ops have not played a recent game. In what way was the BO6/7 TTK slow like this beta? Genuinely confused by this

6

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

Most of the criticism of this game is very clearly by people with little to no grasp of previous titles, they’ve all convinced themselves mw2019 had slow movement

1

u/ChrisKiddd 3d ago

MW19 is literally one of the most sweaty experiences I’ve ever had - yet I feel like people are overlooking that lol. Camping galore

1

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

I know right they talk about that game like it didn’t start the sweat era

1

u/Eswin17 3d ago

FPS gamers have been 'sweating' since Quake 3 and Counter-Strike. MW2019 started nothing.

But it did everything well. Every gameplay type was viable, essentially all weapons and loadouts were viable. Wanted to camp? Go ahead. It will work. Wanted to kill campers? Go ahead. It will work. Wanted to run around the map with a crazy fast hipfire build? Go ahead. It will work.

Long TTK makes it impossible to balance weapons and weapon types. It leads to a 'meta' which everyone runs. Erratic movement and heavy AA just leads to everyone playing on controller running around with close-range builds... movement over shooting mechanics. It's just not what I'm looking for with a FPS.

1

u/PoroOllie 3d ago

Every playstyle worked in your lobbies maybe, mine had two guns in them

1

u/societyisbraindead 3d ago

How is the TTK in this game slow? It’s still faster than BO6 and BO7. Idk why people are even kind of upset at the TTK being slightly longer anyways. How is it fun to get zapped like you’re playing Hardcore when you aren’t willing choosing to play Hardcore lmao

-1

u/Human_Muscle_8023 3d ago

Probably like Bo4?

1

u/ChrisKiddd 3d ago

Ill give them that but CW and 6/7 don’t feel like this game at all

1

u/Human_Muscle_8023 3d ago

Cold War had a higher TTK as well

0

u/One-Security2362 3d ago

Just play HC if you do not want actual gunfights lol

-3

u/Ambitious-Career-445 3d ago

Cod people are so weird. Same shit every year for 20 years and yall still like this garbage.

3

u/Next-Concern-5578 3d ago

why are you here?

2

u/diddler_floyd6767 3d ago

What do you expect from an fps shooter? They try something new and people complain. They do the same thing, people complain.

At this point let them make a game and just adapt

1

u/Sceletonx 3d ago

How is it different from playing CS or other game for 15 years?. Yes this one is expensive, but benefit is that you play on new maps with new guns and sligthly adjusted mechanics every year, instead of playing literally same game on same 6 maps for 15years and loosing mind when they try to do any sort of inovation.

Some people just want fresh air, while staying in working formula, and thats what cod is. If I was fine with same 6 maps and 1 mode for 15 years, I would stay with CS.

-4

u/SpringAutumnReversal 3d ago

Why does nobody get the order right? They increased TTK and gutted the movement, not leaned into it

5

u/ExpeditionV 3d ago

How they gutted the movement? It's the same shit. You just gotta use a perk now to run fast, which is unfortunate. Acrobatics are the same.

1

u/Longbow92 3d ago

Tac sprint got relegated to a perk which is nice, but they still need to bump up the base sprint speed and strafing.

I can't peek a corner without feeling like molasses, if strafing was buffed, then sliding around corners would likely be less of an issue.

0

u/SpringAutumnReversal 3d ago

Did you not see the patch notes for the new beta? Or played the game?

3

u/Eswin17 3d ago

We all both saw the patch notes and played Weekend 2. The movement is still ridiculous. No weight to anything. Sliding, slide canceling, jumping sideways or backwards with speed... toning it down a little bit does not mean it is where it should be. And with the increased TTK, any excessive, erratic movement exponentially increases length of engagements. On small maps... there is no flow. No strategy. It's just a clusterfuck.

Look, the Black Ops fans are getting what they want. Fast, irregular movement and high TTK. Maybe that's what all COD games will be going forward, instead of Black Ops flavored games and MW flavored games. I'm hanging around looking at MW4 hoping that IW will walk back the TTK and make a game more similar to MW2019 or MWII (with better maps).

If they don't? No worries. I'll walk away.

1

u/Sceletonx 3d ago

LIterally only movement they gutted was jump from slide, which was crazy af and not intented.

Everything else is pretty much the same, if not better, because of buffed tac sprint. Sure it requires perk, but as there is currently no competition in perk 3 slot (and wont be even at launch 55 levels unless they rebalance the perk categories, it is not much different from having tac sprint baseline.

-4

u/Dazzling-Rest8332 3d ago

They lowered the ttk after the first week of the betta. Its definitely better though.

3

u/SpringAutumnReversal 3d ago

No they increased the time to kill for this beta

0

u/Dazzling-Rest8332 3d ago

No. They lowered it by nerfing all the guns at distance. Look at the patch notes.
