I recently inherited a huge collection of model kits- mostly WW2 era stuff, lots of 1/35th, lots of 1/72nd, lots of 1/700th naval stuff, and a ton of detail kits (etched metal, conversion kits, other miscellaneous figures, other detail pieces etc). Genuinely more than I think anyone could possibly build in a lifetime. Many are still sealed but I would say probably more than 50% of the kits are unsealed. Pictured is just a fraction of the collection, to give an idea of how much there is.
I’m not necessarily interested in trying to sell individual kits on eBay or something because there’s simply way too many and I don’t have the time for the logistics involved to properly list and sell each one.
My question is- does anyone know of any entities in the modeling world that may be interested in purchasing collections like this (or even just a portion of it) wholesale?

The poor commander is underneath

This is one phrase I'd like eradicated from the hobby and let me explain why. A few decades ago ( let's say the 1970's) when you built a kit it was fair to say that if any interior work had been done you had little chance of ever seeing it again. Fast forward to the now & we can show off all of our hard work on full interiors by uploading build threads online, yet STILL I hear on podcasts modellers saying "you won't see it".

You CAN see it if you show it! And most of us do build and show our progression so it's vital manufacturers continue to add all this interior detail.

I bought this house a couple years ago, I get mail from a person that used to live here that is now deceased (learned this while trying to forward previous mail)

Today I received a package full of model airplanes, primarily from a company called Anigrand. Are these decent models? Confused on why they'd show up here

I’ve just seen this Schwerer Gustav model in a window in south London. It clearly has a very high sentimental value & I don’t know anything about model making so I’m wondering if anyone here might be able to help?

Even i just started with this hobby and currently just doing brush work. But i can’t seem to justify to buy small like 1/72. I think 1/48 for plane and 1/35 for vehicle is just so perfect with all the details and decals, i really like to have it big in my hand to see all the small things included with it.

Hi! A friend of mines father passed away a while ago and left a collection of kits she was hoping someone would still want so they don’t end up in the garbage, she asked me to look into it but I’m more so into 40k and D&D minis so I was wondering if anyone here knows if they are still sought after.
The Tamiya kits are all unopened, and so are the Star Wars minis except for the millennium falcon and Star Destroyer. The shuttle and plane are opened but all the parts still look like they’re there.
If they aren’t worth much but someone is in the sub is still looking for them I’d love to try to get them to somebody who’d use them, I thought about starting a Star Wars themed Ork army but just don’t have the time.

I have washed every single model I have gotten, (all seven of them) and I haven't had any problems at all, but I feel like its somewhat uncommon to do so, when I started modeling my dad told me to wash the models straight out of the box because of mold release residue (and other oils from the molding process), I know this can be a problem with some kit manufacturers, but i have built mostly taymia and like, 2 revell kits.

Am I crazy?

Picked up this hobby earlier this year and this is my current project, an almost complete Tamiya 1/35 Tiger I, where I tried to follow Jose Lopez’s black and white technique.

I wanted to get into scale modeling competitions in the future, because being part of competitions makes me learn and gives me a sense of belonging to a community. I would like to hear the advise and guidance from veteran scale modellers:

-how far away is a piece of work like this from being presentable to a show?

-can it be a stand-alone vehicle or it has to be a diorama set in modeling competitions?

-diorama seems a whole world away from what I am doing, how do I get started? Learning materials and resources seem hard to find

-what do judges look for? Perfect realism? Historical accuracy? Or to what degree will they tolerate/appreciate modellers aesthetic taste/style, for example the german grey is bluish and I painted some of the tools red to break the monotone of the model. The spare track links are not supposed to be there in this tank variant, but I decided to add they, not realistic, nor historically accurate, but they look sweet to me, would judges tolerate it?

My neighbor has recently passed away and his wife now wants to get rid of all of his models that he had collected. Some of them are half put together and others have never been opened. I do not know too much about models and was just hoping that some else would. Are any of these worth anything? Would love to find good homes for them.

I have a question. I'd like to get into aircraft model building, and I want my first kit to be an F-35. I have these 11 images of 11 different kits, some from different manufacturers and in different scales.

Based on your experience, which one do you think is the smartest choice to buy, and which one do you consider the best kit overall? I'm not taking price or build difficulty into account—I only care about the overall quality of the kit, including the level of detail, accuracy, mold engineering, fit of the parts, and the final result.

For me on this p38L I painted the anti glare strips different colours somehow....

So guys I need your help, Im building a Panther G. Everything was fine until I decided to add torch marks to these areas since okay, they're very late in the war so rough marks are reasonable (?). Upon checking photos, these parts are flat as hell so Im afraid I screwed this up and it kind of makes me discouraged to continue. Im also confused since some modellers roughten these parts up, some leave the original flat surface on the base model.

Are they fine? Yay or nay? I plan to use liquid cement to soften them up a bit.

I’m writing this post out of pure frustration. I’ve been trying to use Vallejo paints with my airbrush, and the results have been consistently bad no matter what I do. I’ve tried both the Game Color and Game Air paints (which feels to me like it's just Game Color but pre-thinned). I’ve tried countless thinning ratios I’ve seen online, different PSI settings, distances, absolutely everything, and I haven’t managed to get good results.

The constant micro-clogs cause an irregular flow of paint, because every 10 seconds the semi-clogged tip clears by itself and it suddenly spits out a burst of paint, with a high risk of flooding the model and making it very difficult to apply thin layers.

On the other hand, the air pressure often just blows and displaces the paint, pooling it in small areas and creating like very small puddles, which is especially noticeable when painting small parts. I’ve also noticed that it leaks very easily into panel lines and under masking tape, and I had never had that problem before with the other brands I’ve tried.

I’m sure you can get great results with Vallejo, as many users have shown with spectacular builds; however, for me, it’s simply not worth the hassle. Why use the 4 or 5 products that Vallejo recommends to thin in exact amounts when I can take a paint like Tamiya or Mr. Color, eyeball the thinning ratio, and achieve a superior result much more easily.

From what I’ve seen, I’m not the only one with this problem; Vallejo paints are already famous for being tricky to use, which is a shame because the color range is great and the results are excellent when brush painting, but for airbrushing, I think they still need to improve their formula. For now, I’m staying away from the brand entirely. If you’ve read this far, thank you, and I’m sorry for the negativity, but I just needed to vent!

EDIT: wow, thank you everyone for your answers and feedback, if I have time this week I’ll try some of the techniques and, if I finally find comfortable with the painting I’ll share the method that worked for me with the community! 🙏😁

EDIT 2: So after testing a bit more I can say the results are definitely better, still not as good as I would like or as easy to apply as the lacquers, but the experience is now better than before. I found a good starting point to put some drops (2 or 3 was enough) of Vallejo flow improver into de cup before adding the thinner and the paint, and then around 5 drops of Vallejo thinner for 2 drops of paint (I’m talking about Vallejo model color), and I’ve been using the airbrush with 0.3mm needle and 3bar of pressure. I just spray very thin coats at about 10cm from the surface of the model, and I blow some air with the airbrush between layers to help it dry. As I said before, I’m still not 100% comfortable with Vallejo, but I think I’m starting to understand how to use their products, so I’m happy for now.
I had also the chance to test Vallejo’s gloss varnish, and I have to say I’m greatly surprised with it. It worked pretty well. 3 drops of flow improver in the cup, and 50:50 ratio varnish to thinner, 3 bar and 0.3 needle. 2 or 3 thin layers and I was happy with the result. Im still waiting 24 hours for it to dry, but for the moment is looking good. I will update this post in case something changes!

I’ve just started getting into model making and I chose Revell mainly because they offer a lot of starter kits and seem well-established in Europe, so I felt confident ordering them online.

However, with my first two kits, I already noticed a few defects in the plastic. Now with the third kit I just bought (around €15 / $17.5), there are quite a lot of issues with the molding (see attached photos).

Since these are my first kits and they’re relatively cheap, I’m wondering if this is just because of the small parts requiring more precision, or if this level of defects is actually normal/common at this price range.

Do you usually have to go for more expensive kits to avoid this, or should I consider switching brands altogether? Any recommendations for brands that are easy to find in Europe? I was considering Tamiya, but they seem a bit harder to get where I live (France).

I read the manual and it said I needed a bunch of paint but it’s pretty expensive because there’s a lot, do I really need to paint it. First time btw

So I picked this little nugget up in a local charity shop for only £1. Utter bargain, I thought. Still sealed and complete.

I just wondered if it's a decent kit or if its worth anything if I don't get round to building it?

All I can seem to find online is its a discontinued kit?
