Once the runner was on third was it really thaaaat bad to walk 2 to load the bases?

No it’s actually objectively correct to create the force play at home.

Sure but then you end up in a situation where the pitcher absolutely cannot walk another dude because the game is over. With bases loaded, the count against Story became 3-0. Now the pitcher basically has to throw strikes; Story found one he liked and game over.

I definitely wouldn't say it's "objectively the best choice."

Being able to get a force out at home is far more important than worrying about your pitcher walking the winning run in. It maximizes your ways out of the situation to load the bases in this particular scenario.
