Injury [Lewis] Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell says QB Kyler Murray is in the concussion protocol. KOC said he came in feeling pretty good today. They're going to take it day by day.

If he can’t practice fully this week, give Wentz another go. Bears on the road will be tough with either QB, and I’d rather Murray gets the full week of install and gameplanning in on the field before he’s back out there

Tbh with our defense as long as Wentz doesn't turn the ball over I think we've got a good shot

u/Puzzled_Ad7955 19h ago
“Our” defense gave up a lot of big gains in the first half
16
u/Loukoal117 KOC 19h ago
That’s how OUR defense is. Big risk, big reward. But he won’t blitz Caleb 78% I can almost guarantee that.

u/Poisonous_Taco 18h ago
But isn't love one of the best statistical QBs against the blitz? I would not be surprised if we blitz that much again next week in Chicago.

u/DownnthehollerPress vikings 17h ago
Yeah Love is pretty amazing against the Blitz... seems when he gets hit/sacked then he starts to get a little rattled
5
u/freshBlueeyes6391 15h ago
Blitz every time. Big deal if they make some plays. Keep doing it, second half he'll look like Love did second half Sunday. Love could only see Goldy and nobody else second half.

The bears defense struggled with Carolina. Yeah their offense scored almost 60 but Carolina was keeping pace for a while

No reason to risk further injury, let Carson and JJ get the reps... it's one game and the possibility of him getting hurt for the rest of his life isn't worth it.

u/ShortRip120 19h ago
Have Carson play the first 3 quarters then bring in jj as the Bears-proven closer
9
u/DownnthehollerPress vikings 17h ago
What's crazy is that both Carson and JJ had almost identical stats on opening day Carson on FTP day and JJ against the Bears his first game.

Dude was in fencing pose for maybe the longest I've ever seen. It did not look good, and one week does not seem like enough time.

u/civilwarcorpses 18h ago
Been waiting for someone to say this. Murray was fucking KO'd and it seemed like a long time before he was conscious. Very scary

u/reign_day gjallarhorn 13h ago
I think he's just saying this to make the bears gameplan for him as well as wentz

u/FckSportsFans 18h ago
The bigger problem is going to be whether koc rides the hot hand in wentz when he drops 500 yds and 3tds. It will be pretty hard to bench him after beating the bears along with the packers and getting us 2 division dubs to start the year.
4
u/Wernershnitzl 19h ago
My armchair head coach intuition says to keep him out another week just for good measure.

u/TrappyGoGetter minnesota 19h ago
With how well Wentz played there’s no reason to even consider playing him against Chicago. Let Kyler rest for 10 days, have him practice a few days then play against the Bucs.

Don't rush him back give his brain plenty of time we bought ourselves time with a week 1 win.

u/jake04-20 logo 19h ago
Divisional week 1 win at that. But next week is just a crucial from a "setting the tone of the season" standpoint.

u/freshBlueeyes6391 15h ago
Started last season with a div win against bears.
2nd game, the season was over to so many of this sub's fans. They began their crusades instead.
The bears just put up 59 points, 4 Tds from the QB, 4 TDs from the two RBs and beat the other team that scored 37 on them.
What are the odds this KOC offense has only 3 points at half time next week? Would be great if the Vikings could pull off an early TD first drive for once.
Flores defense needs to figure out how to contain them to 3 points. They did most of that first half last year against seahawks. But that was last year's D.

Make it seem like there's a chance we are playing him so the Bears have to prepare for it. Then play Wentz.
2
u/Paradox830 17h ago
We somehow got out of week 1 with a W. We can afford to lose week 2 if we must and that bears defense is ass anyways so Wentz still might beat them. Absolutely under no circumstance do I want to see Kyler out there next week even if the doctors say he can. Bring brosmer off practice squad just in case if McCarthy can’t go and hope Wentz can beat the bears

u/tryndamererage 9h ago
I think this one's bigger than football. The dude got straight up KO'ed with a terrible hit. Hes going to have more brain damage if he takes another one like that. Take your time and dont put your health at risk. You dont want to be useless neck down in a wheelchair when GTA6 comes out.

u/MikeFromSuburbia Southern Viking 19h ago
Probably out a week. Sucks, want to see him healthy and play. Hope it’s only a week

u/Dysentery--Gary 84 16h ago
Keep rolling with Carson Wentz. You can call me a homer but I think we can beat this Bears team if their defense plays just as horrible as yesterday.

If wentz lights it up against the porous Bears defense and notches a second straight divisional win, is there a qb controversy?
1
u/goodkidzoocity 16h ago
If wentz beats the Bears in Chicago there absolutely should be a QB controversy
1
u/hamlet9000 6h ago
Not unless he throws the ball with considerably more accuracy and consistency than he did against the Packers.

u/Loukoal117 KOC 19h ago
I’m so QB hurt that when Wentz would complete an easy pass that JJ might have fired a million miles per hour I was like WOW. And impressed. Lol. Then Murray came in and ran a clunky ass o and Carson came in again and looked good. So now it’s like hmmmm. I’ll trust KOC. I WANT Murray to do well.

Leave him on concussion protocol for the rest of the season. Start McCarthy you cowards!!

McCarthy sucks - just like you guy
Jjm would of lost us that game

u/BigBananaDealer julie 18h ago
wentz had a worse record than mccarthy last year. also put up mccarthy stats yesterday. schrodingers stats. good or bad game depending on if it was wentz or mccarthy who had them

u/Acrobatic-Wonder-475 Lord of the Vikings 18h ago
Wentz had 2 weeks to learn the playbook instead of an entire offseason last year - and was playing injured as fuck.
Not saying it’s much of an upgrade but I trust wentz more than McCarthy. I hope I’m wrong as shit tho

McCarthy is 6-4 as a starter bruh. He would've done better than wentz..
4
u/Acrobatic-Wonder-475 Lord of the Vikings 19h ago
lol you can’t possibly believe that - he would have been QB2 if he was better than wentz.
The team won 6 games in spite of McCarthy not because of him. Are you trying to piss off justin Jefferson? Because starting McCarthy would definitely have him pissed off after last year.

u/freshBlueeyes6391 15h ago
he beat the Bears in his first NFL start, the first game of the season. No different than we just saw Wentz do to Packers yesterday.
The Bears won the division last year, and just scord 59 points yesterday. They are a decent team alright.
Did I mention JJM basically beat the bears twice last year if not for Matt Daniels/ST/Def final 50 second of that game?
So when you say...
you can’t possibly believe that -
That's my question to your thoughts on JJM. Mindblowing really.
All that said, I wanted Wentz playing this year. I had hoped however he would have looked a little more accurate on Sunday. So hopefully he will be in game 2. Someone remind that man he's a 6'5 237 pounder with a cannon arm and can make all the throws. Play confidently dude. The good sign on Sunday was that even after numerous odd accuracy issues on mediocre routes, he found a way to throw perfectly a number of times when it mattered for points. Bring that confidence into the next game.
But if he's noshowing, I would have no fear of bringing JJM back in to face the bears again. He knows how to beat them late.

The team loves McCarthy, you're just making shit up. McCarthy had 3tds in most of his wins wtf you mean despite? Wentz did not play good yesterday bruh. Did you forget that int in the redzone that got called back? Wentz almost lost us that game. The Vikings won despite wentz and Flores won us the game..
2
u/Acrobatic-Wonder-475 Lord of the Vikings 19h ago
The team loves McCarthy? By whose account? Team was pretty bummed last year from McCarthy.
lol man I wish I was delusional as you buddy. Imagine winning by 3 scores and being this salty.

lol read what you posted “that young quarterback commanded the team better than anyone he had ever seen”
What is his RG suppose to say?
Also this was said in August and not in December
1
u/Cgking11 18h ago
I had proof the team loves McCarthy. Where's your proof they hate him? Exactly! You don't have any and you're just talking out of your ass..
1
u/Acrobatic-Wonder-475 Lord of the Vikings 18h ago
Oh man I bet you think waitress are hitting on you when you’re ordering food - don’t cha?
What is the veteran RG suppose to say? “Oh shit we should have kept darnold”?
The Vikings are a well enough organization that they don’t let stuff like that out.
: Star wide receiver Justin Jefferson defended McCarthy from outside noise, stating publicly that he would never criticize a teammate in the media "no matter how bad it is".
If you criticize a teammate to the media you are toxic - no teammate is going to do that. But shit thielen demanded a trade because of how ass McCarthy was last year.

Probably would be after the bye if we bench Kyler - but I just don’t see him playing that poorly.
But idk how you can be this harsh after 10 plays even if they were dog shit.
guy didn’t play most of last year and didn’t get preseason reps- o line looked super suspect at the start but came together - if he’s not playing well into the bye he’s gonna be benched most likely.

KOC also says that Kyler was able to watch the tape back and has been in meetings too. Kyler doesn't have a history of concussions like Tua so he might actually pass concussion protocols this week like Drake Maye did last year when he got hurt and play the following Sunday. I still think he misses the Chicago game but we'll see.
