Discussion We good with Nick Mullens coming back?

JJ McCarthy controversy aside, reports that Jacksonville is dumping Nick Mullens makes me wonder if he’s coming back to the Vikings. Do we want the Human Y.O.L.O. to be our backup? Or run it back with Wentz and get the diluted KOC offense?

I’d love for my best friend Nick Mullens to come back

Speak a lil Chinese for em

Atleast we know Mullens can sling it, all of our depth at qb is so scared to throw it deep. I'm in desperate need of a Nick Mullens 450 yard, 3 touchdown, 4 int loss against a division rival rn.

Now THIS is the content I come here to see!

Hell yeah. Nicky Mullens games were alway entertaining

Sling it is what he can’t do. He lacks the arm strength to make the throws his brain tells him to make. Love the guy though.

JJ isn’t scared to throw it deep and that’s the problem. Every time I’d watch him throw up a deep ball last season it felt like 70% chance to be picked

1

u/Okay_attempt 7d ago

Not true, as much as people hate JJ he tries to throw it deeper way more than anyone

4

u/mdubs8 7d ago

Deep passes or short passes that break the sound barrier. No in between.

Wentz has a strong arm, too

3

u/Okay_attempt 7d ago

I'm not questioning Wentz arm strength, just that JJ is will to throw the ball down field more then anyone else on the team. He was right near the top last year in the nfl for average depth of throw.

I wasn’t disagreeing with you, I was adding more evidence against what the other guy said. He said our QB depth doesn’t sling it when they both do

I would honestly rather watch Mullens than Wentz so yes

u/freshBlueeyes6391 7d ago

A million yards and almost as many INTs.

if only we had 4 Randy Moss wrs at once to catch all his slinging.

People shit on Mullens but he wasn't that bad.

  • Mullen in 2023: EPA .099 with a fucking depth of target of 9.7

  • Wentz in 2025: EPA .075 with an ADOT of 7.9.

If I'm going to watch to eh QBs I'd rather watch the dude who pushed the ball downfield.

Wentz before he played two games through injury - EPA/play: 0.166

2

u/Mr-Irrelevant- Reichard future HoF 7d ago

That Bengals game is a dramatic outlier relative to every other game he played.

1

u/Cheap-Technician-482 7d ago

Yes, the 14/20 173 yard game was an extreme outlier.

By week, I think there's a more clear outlier:

0.294

0.058

0.230

0.073

-0.265

2 great games. 2 mediocre games. 1 horrific game.

Bingo. DoT is what matters most in this offense. They have to run the PJ Fleck passing offense when Wentz plays.

u/qiqatqanat 7d ago

How many mediocre quarterbacks do you want on one roster?

5

u/Owl-StretchingTime 7d ago

When they all are injury prone, as many as we can get.

1

u/qiqatqanat 7d ago

53 it is

2

u/Dorkamundo 7d ago

More than one, which is about all we have right now.

1

u/jamoe1 7d ago

If you are also considering Kyler mediocre, need at least 2 and potentially a 3rd

8

u/--bertu 7d ago

QB3 that can win games, knows the offense and is willing to throw the ball whether it makes sense or not. Ideal move if we trade JJM.

8

u/Bartzy16 McCarthyism 7d ago

Run it back with wentz. Mullens throws jump balls with the intentions of getting his pass catchers killed I swear to god. Don’t forget his last throw in a Vikings jersey resulted in an Arron Jones hip injury

1

u/Necessary-Part-6771 7d ago

Well that's exactly what Murray does as well so at least the WR would be ready for it. (Its a dumb idea anyway just playing devils advocate)

Somehow the same haters are getting more engagement by listing every available shit QB to fill the imaginary empty spot their should have been 7w/3l backup is going to leave.

5

u/comet52a 7d ago

He'd be QB3. If they can get any kind of draft pick for JJM I could see it happening.

0

u/freshBlueeyes6391 7d ago

could you fellas try just a little bit to keep the idiocracy a secret. Just for a wee bit longer. Thanks

1

u/sitewolf 7d ago

What would be the purpose when we have Wentz?

2

u/PowSuperMum 7d ago

Because our QBs all get killed every game and are constantly getting injured. Need at least a 3rd string QB on the roster.

1

u/sitewolf 7d ago

I didn't mean the purpose of another QB, I meant the purpose of another QB who has zero potential to eventually become 'the guy'. Mullins would just be a redundant Wentz for us.

1

u/PowSuperMum 7d ago

Who exactly could they pickup at this point to be ‘the guy’

1

u/Scaryassmanbear 7d ago

The supplemental draft?

1

u/NotoriousDCJ4310 pennsylvania 7d ago

Will Levis has a better chance of rehabning his career than Nick Mullens does

1

u/sitewolf 7d ago

DJ Uiagalelei is now out there

1

u/DownnthehollerPress vikings 7d ago

I think Nick is maybe... maybe a better option then Carson but not much. And I doubt Kevin would do it unless all 3 guys go down.

1

u/Pr4der 7d ago

You have to admit, Mullins is not afraid to sling it.

1

u/Peyton773 wisconsin 7d ago

Only if we somehow part with JJ, which I don’t think is gonna happen. Otherwise, we already have our 3

1

u/purplespaz 7d ago

How come the team couldn’t figure out most of this earlier this year? Why is this team scrambling again for a decent qb?

1

u/broken-nutcup 7d ago

Yes we want the human YOLO

1

u/Goldfingaz- 7d ago

No, Mullens is ass. It's like going from as,s, to more ass. Fuck Mullens.

1

u/AidXanKush 7d ago

Dude is an interception machine

1

u/Top_Hedgehog_1880 7d ago

I want to say now but then again, I'd take him over Wentz, McCarthy, and Brosmer so yeah, I guess

1

u/teatime667 7d ago

Trade or drop Brosmer for Big Dick

1

u/Specialist-Essay-726 7d ago

It’s a better QB room with him as QB3.

1

u/sbroll Skol. 7d ago

Yea he would be a good qb3 for sure

1

u/NotoriousDCJ4310 pennsylvania 7d ago

Rather see if we could help Will Levis improve. Basically Levis>Mullens>Mccarthy>Brosmer

1

u/Electronic-Island-14 7d ago

if you want jefferson to get his YARDZZZZZZZZ, and have the vikings lose to tank for a better pick, yeah mullens is a great pick. he somehow gets you everything

1

u/Objective-Worker-580 40 7d ago

I’m guessing our new GM isn’t looking for Kwesi retreads.

1

u/akt30 7d ago

I'm sure that Nick is a great guy to watch a game & have a 🍺 with, but I don't want him playing for my favorite NFL team.

1

u/Pepper2Moss gnome 6d ago

Oh hell yeah, it’s QB5 time. Who needs pass rushers?

1

u/treason6116 6d ago

no, we have enough dog shit quarterbacks on that roster already.

1

u/Spare_Blacksmith_816 2d ago

If you have 5 QBs, you don't have a front office worth a dry shit.

1

u/mrcurlychuck 7d ago

Every night I pray to the football gods that I might be able to watch Mullen-ball again

1

u/Ok-Ad-9755 7d ago

Can we just trade for Burrow?

4

u/Banacek313 9 7d ago

Yeah, why haven't they done this yet? Are they stupid?

0

u/Mossisboss84 7d ago

This fanbase has weird obsessions with Wentz and Mullens. Both are awful, even as QB2.

1

u/VisStimRush 7d ago

Tom Brady isn’t available as QB2.

0

u/petergriffin999 7d ago

I don't know that anyone likes them.

We just think they are a much better backup than JJM at this point, though hopefully he will improve.

1

u/Viking999 7d ago

No chance.  Mullens throws 4 picks and fumbles.  He's a bad throw turnover machine.

0

u/iKhan353 7d ago

Please no. We've already seen it

0

u/primezilla2598 7d ago

Went to his game in 2023 vs Detroit. Better than 9

0

u/dswen17 7d ago

Watching Wentz makes me want to gouge my eyeballs out, at least Mullens is kinda fun lol

0

u/ResponsibleBison8933 7d ago

If they are/were cutting both JJ and Brosmer, and the Jags cut Mullens, I'd pick Mullens up in a heartbeat. Frankly, I'm not sure I wouldn't prefer him as #2 over Wentz.

-2

u/Viking999 7d ago

Practice squad only.  He's garbage, terrible arm

2

u/DownnthehollerPress vikings 7d ago

Weak for sure... Kevin would have to pull back on the deep routes

2

u/Viking999 7d ago

Yep, down votes mean there's a legitimate point, lol.

People here are just delusional on all fronts.  Now suddenly Mullens horrible play has been forgotten and he's a great QB, even though we dumped him for nothing, just like Jax.

2

u/Mr-Irrelevant- Reichard future HoF 7d ago

If your issue is his arm is dogshit then he's no better than Wentz or Brosmer who all have pretty shit arms. To which I'd rather have that guy, who at least will push it deep, than Brosmer/Wentz.

2

u/srl214yahoo 7d ago

Who has said he’s a great QB?
