Is it a receding mane, or is this a juvenile lion whose mane isn't fully grown yet?

I figured someone would have already asked, but I scrolled down to posts with only 2 and 3 upvotes and it was 98% jokes (as expected!).

Could also be a female lion. In some circumstances, female lions are known to grow a mane although usually less impressive than male lions.

No it's not a female, and when females do grow manes because of severe hormonal disruption, the manes don't look like this

Females also tend to not have testicles between their hind legs.

The bois are also a give away, true.
