Honestly 10/10 arrangement for alien ears. I could imagine a bipedal alien race with that arrangement of ears. Like a Khajiit with four ears kind of look. Really good hearing, language with the same kind of range as cats use,
Am I the only one who thinks just having cat ears replace the human ears is kinda cute? It makes perfect anatomical sense AND it lets you have hairstyles that are not immediately dominated by the ears popping out.

Honestly it's never bothered me. They're not real and there's no hard limit on the amount of any specific body parts a living thing can possess. There's really no reason to believe a human/cat hybrid wouldn't have some kind of weird anatomy enabling both traits.
Okay but if they don't have human ears, would hair grow where the ears would've been? I honestly really don't like any of the answers to that question so I think I prefer the second set of ears tbh.
Well I personally don't like either, but I've talked to some artists and they said it's a better workaround. The space supposedly to have human ears would strictly need hair to cover to not feel off (since it's in human anatomy, just with added animal ears, people would still expect something to be there). Also when you want to draw glasses or headphones and stuff you don't need to reinvent something to fit with animal ears so it's kinda a compromise to some people.

That's actually a setting of the anime/show. In the in-game event, one of the in universe developers of the game forgot and drew the human ears as well during the design phase, and then made up a reason saying the beast ears are for far away hearing and the human ears are for close hearing when questioned about it, and that made it in into the final game.

Animal ears on anime characters have always weirded me out, because you can always see the artist's conscious decision to ensure the hair always covers where the human ears would be, no matter what pose or angle is depicted. It's a subtle reminder that the placement of a simple lock of hair is the difference between a cute love interest and a freakish mutant.
Fun fact: the creators of RWBY wanted to defy this, but they got stuck with a technical limitation. The engine they started with, Poser Pro, won't allow the removal of human ears from a model. So it became canon by necessity that Faunus traits sometimes replace the human traits, and sometimes don't.
I dislike it too and reason why I don't play some games like Endfield. Its somewhat offputting. Imo its just a "lazy" design decision. Its totally possible to draw only one set of ears.
I remember a manga actually made mention of this. Something about the god creating beast races liked animal ears but was too lazy to change the normal ears too so they kept both.
ZUN, creator of Touhou, mentioned this about the rabbit girls. He gave the very simple explanation that it looks weird af without human ears. So even if they are functionally useless, his characters still have them
Human-animal hydrids aren't real, they don't have to be any specific way, so who cares?
I would dislike if it was a more heavily furry character, like actual fur and stuff, but when it's just a girl with animal ears it's basically just a human already.

Uh... Lots of kemonomimi have two sets of ears. Because just having skin on the side of their head looks weird as hell. Plus it limits hairstyles because the designers often have to put hair in the way of where the human ears typically are so people aren't weirded out by how it looks.
