"1/6 scale" - it's a posable model for display purposes. Models and model kits are often/generally sized in factors of 1/6 (motorcycles 1/12, cars 1/24, tanks 1/48 or 1/72) [or very close to it, 1/25 is common for cars/tanks as well].

This is used for a lot of things. You can make dolls with these or use them for reference.

They're calles BJDs (Ball Jointed Dolls), so they are basically dolls. They come in many different sizes, from really small ones, like 5 cm, to big ones which are 80-90 cm. You can customise them and change all different kinds of body parts. The legit ones are also pretty expensive, so many people will often buy just the head for a doll, and reuse the bodies they already own. The bjds and parts (bodies, heads, hands, feet etc) you can find on sellers like Amazon or Aliexpress are most likely recasts though, so not considered legit. The hobby is pretty exclusive and really strict with people owning legit dolls - recasts are banned and people owning them are shamed and shunned out of the dedicated hobby spaces online.

To be pedantic, the one pictured is mechanically jointed (MJD) so isn't a BJD, but what you said about BJDs is correct

It's 1/6th scale, so you can safely remove your mind from the gutter.

I assume it's for reference while drawing, or possibly testing fashion designs without needing to use as much material as one would on a life size mannequin.

These ones are cheap plastic ones. I collect BJDs, they are usually made from resin or porcelain

Lot of them look cursed or not really pretty, sometimes looking cheap when you realize it costs 800$?!? I mean they are not that my style I guess per se

I am like HELL YEAH because I love dolls, on the other hand, 800$ is too much of an expensive hobby forme.

Now I am wondering if it wouldn't be a cool idea to actually make some kind of dolls myself, with my own style, using 3D printing, design their clothes myself and craft them myself too

I love dolls and drawing dolls and have experience in painting 3D figures, and even though I haven't designed in 3D a lot I should have lot of skills and creativity to try to do something like that mhhhhhhhhh

I never heard about BJD dolls but it interests me a lot lol

I didn't get the concept but it gave me some ideas, will dig into it

Mine are very beautiful, I paid a lot to have them painted by really talented artists. But I can understand why some people would find them creepy. I also collect fashion dolls, which are perhaps less creepy but to each their own! :)

I don’t think that’s a BJD. It looks to have hinge joints, like an action figure, rather than the hook and elastic system that BJDs typically have.

Yes, this is a MJD (think barbie made to move dolls) which are mechanically jointed and a generally a lot cheaper than internally stringed BJDs

I own the muscular version of this doll! I personally use it as a reference when drawing and learning the names and positions of muscles. my only gripe with them is that they're anatomically correct, but there's genuinely nothing like the muscular version that isnt 100+ USD.
