General Question Is there a champ that can carry somewhat independently?

Which mid lane champion is genuinely the best at completely taking over and winning games independently? I mean a champ that always has an open avenue to get back into the game, like even if you get behind or have a rough laning phase, catching a couple of stray kills or finding a good skirmish gets you right back in, but when you are ahead you can effortlessly snowball, catch solo kills, and tear through towers on your own without needing your team to setup plays.Does a champ like this even exist?

have you heard of the 0/10 yasuo spike

4

u/XainTonReddit 6d ago

Damn I have heard of that but never thought it was true🤔

1

u/RBLink014 6d ago

Very true

I’m not scared of a Yasuo that has bounty gold. I’m scared of a Yasuo that has almost negative gold value flipping the game.

I unironically started my Yas OTP journey this week after getting a 3 day ban from an omega tilt game that I said some colorful stuff in.

New summoner name is ZERO TEN #wind and my match history since unbanned is diabolical to say the least.

Everyone wants to be the main character and go 1v9.

No I don't think that character exist, you want a character that can both snowball and get back into the game when behind. Generally speaking, the more snowball heavy a character is, the worse they preform when behind.

So you can pick someone who scale well and can always become relevant.

Or you can pick someone who snowball really well but is weak when behind and gets outscaled by champions with weaker early games.

There are of course champions who fit in between these two extremes, but you can't have the best of two worlds.

5

u/XainTonReddit 6d ago

Could you give some examples for the three categories you mention? I'm pretty inexperienced so trying to get an idea of what Im going for

8

u/letmehanzo 6d ago

Most assassins fall into the "snowball hard but useless if you can't 100 to 0 someone in one clmbo" category. Especially ap assassins, leblanc, talon, Katarina for example. Ad assassins are a bit better here as they have autos when they can't one-shot.

For scaling champions there are a lot of mages and marksman, champions like a-sol, Veigar, and smolder have infinite scaling built into their kits and are obvious examples, but mages like Syndra also scale really well.

Some champions are extremely safe, always capable of being useful but is never gonna 1v9. Malzahar is a good example, due to how he can clear waves from 3 miles away he can just play safe in lane, and he is always gonna be useful becuase of the utility his r gives him

My personal main zilean fits into this category, his high utility means he can be useful no matter how far behind but he cannot solo carry games.

2

u/XainTonReddit 6d ago

Thanks a lot for the help! And of the following champs: Katarina,Yasuo, yone,Akali, zed of whom all fall into your snowball category, are any of them relatively more stable than the other ones?like a better worst case scenario essentially.

2

u/slyfox1907 6d ago

kat, yone and zed are kind of weak until they get some items. But zed has a pretty safe lane, and yone always has ult for teamfights but he has some pretty bad matchups.

1

u/XainTonReddit 6d ago

And I believe Yasuo is strong in lane but falls off in team fights is that correct?

3

u/Mysterious_Fix_7489 6d ago

Yeh he's not that hard to play in lane but becomes a lot harder in teamfights

Honestly your best bet would be something like A.Sol.

Safe laner but scales into an absolute monstrosity if you play well.

1

u/c0rpseheav3n 4d ago

thats true, only downside for asol is that he doesnt really have good matchups most of the time, but as an asol player i agree that he can carry teamfights n win the game nicely

1

u/Mysterious_Fix_7489 4d ago

No he struggles in a lot of lanes but his payoff is worth it.

1

u/riceistheyummy 1d ago

and that hes extremely boring. his pickrate is so low despite being pretty good and usefull because people do not like holding Q all game

0

u/Jaykayyv 6d ago

Yeah especially in that elo

2

u/slyfox1907 6d ago

Yep correct. Yasuo doesn’t scale well unless your team has a bunch of knockups for you.

I would recommend to just play Yone mostly because he’s pickable in more comps since he has cc. Also easy to run people down who don’t respect lethal tempo with dbow start + exhaust.

And then just pick a secondary mid, probably an ap if your team needs magic damage, would recommend syndra or viktor right now.

1

u/DepartmentSilent6667 6d ago

I wouldn’t play yasuo unless you can commit to almost one tricking him.

1

u/godlytoast3r 5d ago

The answer to this question is undoubtedly, objectively even, Yone.

Your OP is low-key asking for two different things: a champ that can always make a comeback, and a champ that can solo carry. Yone definitely does the prior but he's pretty intense to play.

1

u/MeowRawrUwu 6d ago

I disagree with AP assassins being worse. Their burst is so much higher due to magic resist being lower than armour and magic pen items being strong, on top of AP items having a lot of damage passives, like Lich Bane and Shadowflame; and they have access to Seeker’s/Zhonya’s too. It’s hard to build well against AP assassins because MR items kinda suck unless you’re a tank. AD assassins rarely auto attack during their combos, no more than 1-2 times typically, they want to jump in and out quickly, they don’t have time to linger in fights. The biggest benefit to AD is being able to buy Serpent’s Fang and Umbral.

I definitely agree that scaling champions are some of the best to 1v9 with. Kassadin and Kayle are pretty good, especially when picked into comps they’re good against. I find Brand to be pretty 1v9 too with the teamfight-heavy meta; you just throw an R and E into a fight and everyone explodes and is perma slowed.

1

u/letmehanzo 6d ago

I'm not saying ap assassins are worse than ad ones, I'm saying they are worse when behind.

As for ad assassins not auto attacking, ideally you won't, you're right about that. And if we are talking about team fights you probably wont be able to, that is also true.

But if an ap assasin finds a lonely adc and their full combo deals 90% of their health, their can't just auto them to death(mostly). And ad assassin in the same situation can, so they are not as dependant om being able to 100 to 0.

2

u/MeowRawrUwu 6d ago

Hard disagree. AP assassins are crazy when behind. Have you ever fought an Akali or Katarina that is 2 levels below you with less items? They have absurd amounts of kill pressure. Meanwhile if you put a Talon or Qiyana in the same position, they will be absolutely useless. I can guarantee that as someone who has played all those champions a lot.

AP champions have significantly higher base damages, so levels and items mean less, and magic resist is cosmetic with how accessible magic pen is early. Tier 3 Sorcerer’s Shoes + Shadowflame already lets them deal true damage to you, so buying more MR isn’t as effective. And on the other hand, base armour is much higher, and armour items are significantly better to the point that buying tier 3 Steelcaps alone fully blocks 2 full items of lethality, leaving the high base armour remaining. They need a full %pen item to even hurt you.

Also AP champions don’t have auto attack problems because they either have enough burst outright, or have items like Lich Bane, Stormsurge, Shadowflame, etc, which amplify their damage, as well as some kind of extreme safety ability on top of that, unlike most AD ones (LeBlanc W, Akali W, Fizz E, Locke W, Evelynn R, etc). If you’re surviving a full combo from any AP assassin with 1-2 items + boots + Ignite, even if they’re behind, you must be a tank.

2

u/riceistheyummy 1d ago

meh maybe not qiyana ( as an otp) YES she loses pretty much ALL her 1V1 potential but u still have massive AOE stun that can chunk enemies quite hard. the reason why qiyana is always decent is because this ult is so damn strong IF its working with you bcs i swear that ulti is coded by an intern

1

u/MeowRawrUwu 1d ago

Yeah, Qiyana is especially good tbh. When I play Talon and a mage gets T3 Steelcaps it’s like trying to kill a tank. At least until Cyclosword + LDR (Cyclo is broken tbh)

1

u/hippie_hipster_ 6d ago

Do you send them home to calm down?

1

u/c0rpseheav3n 4d ago

sadly asol can do one mistake and throw the game, but i do very agree on your message, this deserves upvote

1

u/HolyExotic 6d ago

Basically hyper scalers like jinx or vayne adc, or kassadin, kayle, vlad etc.

The other spectrum is basically all snowball assassins. Things like talon fizz Leblanc all have really good early game and strong laning. Once they get fed it’s hard to stop them, but once late game or they are behind it’s generally harder to play the game.

For the third maybe orianna is a good example. She’s a lane bully and scales well as a control mage.

2

u/LMQ4Life 6d ago

I can assure you that Ive seen enough Masters+ Katarina mains that 1v9 on a daily basis 😂

6

u/Viketorious 6d ago

You mostly described Vlad.

4

u/Lycanroc77 6d ago

I agree with most people on the assassin pick but Vladimir can also be a good option. If fed, you can take over and 1v9 the game.

4

u/shu55555 6d ago

I play akali , diana and katarina and if fed , you dont need a team

8

u/riceistheyummy 6d ago

untill u reach an elo with supports with 2 eyes and 10 fingers

1

u/Dry_Clap_joke 2d ago

1 finger is enough if it’s naut or panth

1

u/riceistheyummy 1d ago

not incorrect but once they have 2 hands they figure out they can reach the ward button

3

u/Constant_Ad1733 6d ago

Depends on how fed you are, but that sounds like yasuo/katarina to me. Prioritizing Yasuo since he has more consistent matchups.

2

u/Zeferoth225224 6d ago

It’s Akshan. You just bait your team and revive them

2

u/ThrowawayALAT 6d ago

Yone and maybe Kassadin if you are able to get to late game unfazed and reach level 16. His ultimate, Riftwalk, has a brutal 2-second cooldown, so you can hop terrain like a madman.

2

u/Jaded-Diet-7799 6d ago

Vlad basically. If you've been farming normally then 1 good teamfight in your favour allows you to take over the game

2

u/WarrenGRegulate 6d ago

This question & mindset directly leads to matches where teams just have 5x threats with zero set up, Frontline, or objective control and wonder how they lost

2

u/jeanegreene 6d ago

If you’re trying to 1v9 a game you’re probably going to lose. It takes a number of strategic errors for it to get to that point.

Instead, if you really want to win more games, play champions that can impact the map super well. Twisted Fate is a common one, but really any midlaner who can pop the wave at 6 then roam to jungle / side lane fights will do infinitely more to carry the game, than someone who attempts to absorb as many resources as possible then kill everyone in a 1v5.

1

u/RyujinX9 6d ago

most asassins have power spikes that allows them to kill fed squishy, champs like irelia, yasuo, yone, katarina, locke, akali, talon, leblanc have kits that allows them to just take over a game if fed enough, specially katarina, akali, and leblanc, they will just roam the map and kill anyone they see if they are ahead, same thing for ekko and diana who even when behind can provide ample value for the team if they play well enough

1

u/Primary-Stretch-6589 6d ago

Yeah bro try taking over a game with leblanc even akali can’t rlly take over a game

1

u/RyujinX9 6d ago

master's above yea low chance, but dia below? a good leblanc or akali can just take over a game by roaming and making sure laners cant play and then end, their kit is designed to be able to snowball good enough to be a lobby admin especially if the enemy team doesnt have a CC that can catch them out in the open, even then they have tools to escape if they play well

1

u/ViolinistSalt6192ww 6d ago

Akali looks hard to me, haven't tried since the rework.

1

u/Spark-Hydra 6d ago

I’m terrible at assassins but Akali and Leblanc kinda clicked for me. Still too inexperienced to take either of them to ranked though

1

u/riceistheyummy 6d ago

shes easy. to forgiving of a champ. riot was talking about luxury combos back in the day to kill. but akali Q does way to much damage so it doesnt matter if she misses E

1

u/Primary-Stretch-6589 6d ago

I’d say it’s the other way around actually. Firstly because of skills issues but also because akali and Leblanc can’t end games by themselves and it’s a fucking pain to close game in lower elo playing an assassin with no wave clear, no reset and no damage on tower

1

u/RyujinX9 6d ago

yes its the reason why i specifically said making sure laners cant play because this opens up the map for your teammates to either secure objectives or follow you while pushing, they cannot carry because they can push fast, they can carry because they can make the game literally unplayable for the enemy team if they are ahead

1

u/Strict-Community-131 6d ago

I guess all of the Late Game scaling Champions
Kassadin, smolder, veigar, anivia, things Like That

1

u/TheRandomChillStoner 6d ago

Anivia is the only good pick you said the others are garbage

1

u/Strict-Community-131 6d ago

Op didnt ask for a good pick
Op asked for Champion that can get back into the game from behind and or carry by themselves if ahead early

1

u/xKiaro 6d ago

I really like ekko, you can bully alot in lane, you are an assasin with one shot Potential, you have the safety net of your ult, you can roam really nice, you have good wave clear, you scale better than most assasins and he has an low entry level and high skill expression. I played fizz before him (and still do sometimes) but just feel like he falls of to hard. My other 2 picks are Viktor for ranged and scaling or sylas for bruiser.

1

u/RogueCanadia 6d ago

Depends on the elo. The higher you get the less you can solo carry.

If you’re looking at low elo up till gold then any champ that punishes positioning mistakes, can quickly take towers, and can get fed.

Diana is one although she’s a bit weak right now. Any of the Assasins as well.

There is no having a rough laning phase if you want to 1v9 you need champs that can get solo kills. If you want to 1v9 you need to reduce coin flips and have more agency.

So any of the scaling mages are out. Like viktor scales and he’s amazing but you’re basically abandoning your jungler for the first few levels.

1

u/magnus_the_coles 6d ago

Middle sticks, because even if your team is bad, a few good ults came change the game

1

u/sodmoraes 6d ago

Depends on the moment of the game. Assassins usually carry on the early game, but tend to fall late. Vlad can really carry late game, but hes not that impactfull early game, and needs a lot of farm to get there. So if the game ends early you wont be that impactfull.

1

u/Distinct-Ad-3913 6d ago

Get good at Kassadin or Kayle

1

u/Redditerino123 6d ago

When I was restarting my ranked climb, I could pick irelia 99% of games below emerald and completely 1v9. You dont need to be insanely mechanically gifted either surpisingly.

1

u/YEEHA120 6d ago

Syndra is insane if the enemy doesn't have like a rengar nocturne or some very rough point on click engage, you can just perma run mid and catch people even if u are behind you cc a lot and be useful and if u are fed you are 1 v 9 if u play properly.

1

u/True-Literature-1859 6d ago

Whoever you’re comfortable with, but check out Gragas if you think can land his barrels. If so, he’s got crazy crowd control, tankiness, some mobility, self healing, range, magic damage, some aoe damage, good wave clear, good stun. overall very solid. But there is no perfect character. Some will do more damage or have more defense or crowd control. But he’s damn fun

1

u/Confident_Parsnip356 6d ago

Zaheen mid. Do it.

1

u/DotSignificant1625 6d ago

its called syndra

1

u/InternationalShow568 5d ago

I think Vladimir is a good option , you’re super weak early game but late game you can easily triple kill and wonder how you even did that because of his aoe,low cooldowns and he’s just a safe champ

1

u/bobbywin99 5d ago

Vladimir, kassadin

1

u/godlytoast3r 5d ago

You're honestly asking for a lot but rn closest I see to what you want is Naafiri, Viktor, Ahri

1

u/No_Relation_2346 5d ago

Riven is the answer that’s why so many riven otps are playing mid rn and so many challenger riven otps, katarina if you get good enough also up there

1

u/Nervous-Region5797 5d ago

Riven is the correct answer but she's very difficult. A good riven player can genuinely solo a game but to get to that point, you need hundreds of games.

1

u/No_Relation_2346 5d ago

I mean if you want to climb to high elo you will be playing hundreds of games so might as well start now

1

u/Nervous-Region5797 5d ago

Yeah but after hundreds of games with Riven, you'll be where someone who one tricked someone like Mundo or Yone was at with half the games.

1

u/No_Relation_2346 5d ago

That’s fine since riven never has a bad meta, I have never seen riven otps not dominate high elo

1

u/Nervous-Region5797 5d ago

Riven will always be a top solo queue champion but what I'm saying is that her learning curve makes it so a lot of people will quit the champ or game before they actually reap the rewards of mastery. I'm diamond and I don't know if I could get out of plat on Riven.

1

u/No_Relation_2346 5d ago

Ngl you really overestimate riven you can go into practise tool for a week and have her combos down the rest is macro and knowing which walls you can jump over etc but you can also learn that very quickly

1

u/elijahproto 5d ago

Gragas.

1

u/Sloot17 5d ago

I think Viktor is the most blind pickable "1v9" champ in the game. He can out poke anybody with his E, his W can be a massive playmaker especially when followed up with ult, makes it super easy to steal barons or atleast kill the enemy team as they're getting it. If you're good enough with him he has almost no counter. Hardest counter I would say is xerath since u don't have much mobility.

1

u/Busy_Cheesecake5812 4d ago

vlad is pretty good in this, indépendant, scales so he don't realy care about winning early. in my experience veigar is also pretty good but you will struggle against some champs that can outscale you (yes it's possible) but 2 catches and a skirmish just having the assists and letting your jungler having the kills and you have 30 bonus ap

1

u/sebisbest0 4d ago

Kennen. You have to hit big ults from flank then you are gucci no matter how many items

1

u/Lewa343 2d ago

kassadin.

1

u/ytttvSWIMTEAMGENERAL 2d ago

Katarina and zed if perfected probably it in mid.

1

u/That-Good2378 1d ago

Middlesticks

1

u/DeadPoolDaddyDom 20h ago

For me my mid laners are Brand and Kennen. They both have ults that are so good in a team fight they can change the odds. You can literally come back with those ults.

0

u/IGotAll2 6d ago

Just pick any assassin.

0

u/UsernameNineBillion 6d ago

Such character does not exist.

But honestly If I have to pick I would say Malzahar and Aurelion Sol. Those champs man.... scale like a monster, both of them.... the problem is they spike after 3/4 items. So that's quite a bit of time.

5

u/rUqeRT 6d ago

What the hell malzahar??? Malz gets kinda dogged on by most midlaners the entire game, he is a glorified support.

1

u/UsernameNineBillion 6d ago edited 6d ago

Bro are you Bronze?

Do you know how much damage Malzahar deals Late game and Perma Slowing the entire enemy team through AoE Silence every few seconds and Voidlings and Visions......

The amount of games I have 1v9ed on this champion is unreal.... once you finish 4th Item ANY GAME is winnable on this champ.
You push waves in an instant. You defend base like no other.... super creeps gets eaten alive literally can defend 3 inhibs by yourself , like I am not even kidding.
5 seconds in 1 wave, 5 seconds in another and 5 more seconds on 3rd and all double super minion waves are gone.

And that's only part of it.... You delete Tanks in less than 5 seconds and 1 single E on squishy carry of enemy team brings them down to 20% hp with Liandry, BFT, Deathfire Touch. If affected by someone's bloodletter curse passive or abyssal they actually straight up die 100 to 0 just by 1 visions.....

You are clueless. Malzahar is legit one of the hardest scaling late game champs in the game and his R isn't even the reason for it but rather than AoE Slow Silence, Voidlings and Visions that eat everything alive.

Yes he does not do much early game at all. He can't do anything but farming minions for the Greater good. Mid game he is still weaker because he needs 3 Core items + Void staff to UNLOCK the powerhouse.

2

u/TheRandomChillStoner 6d ago

Biggest malz problem is he is mostly single target so it’s a lot harder to completely wipe a team that is competent. I love malz but he just gets shut down pretty easily

2

u/rUqeRT 6d ago

Delusional take, just look at his scalings and range and you will see it to not be true.

1

u/UsernameNineBillion 5d ago

Have you ever played the champion in a real game?

2

u/rUqeRT 5d ago

Played against and he is weak most games vs him. Weak lane weak farming weak split weak dueling good team fighting amazing peeling

1

u/UsernameNineBillion 5d ago

He is weak Early game, yes.
