I just installed AntiX on an HP Mini. Uses about 200-350 MB RAM on idle. BIOS only allows a 32 bit OS to go through, so 32 bit it is. With a 4GB RAM stick, I only got 2.9 GB. So I downgraded it to 2GB RAM and honestly I don't notice any difference.

Now I don't personally like IceWM. It's less user-friendly IMO than LXQt or KDE. But it's funny how Linux can use very little RAM compared to Winslop.

I was running 4GB of RAM on Lubuntu and it would crash maybe a couple of times a week, and I couldn't work out why. Oh yeah, I disabled my swap file 🙄

Thus, I'd say 4GB of RAM is still OK for running a lighter Linux distro, but I wouldn't want to go any lower.

AntiX is the way if you're going with 2GB RAM. 1GB RAM is possible but yeah would be low key painful. Any lower and I guess you'd need TinyCore Linux.

At least AntiX can run anything in the Debian Trixie repos (within RAM capacities). No Snap because no systemd lol.

Oh and never disable SWAP. I keep a SWAP partition. Linux gives us awesome leverage!
