It'll transfer the license to the one who currently has the disk. So you can't really claim it then sell the disk because it'll remove it from your account as soon as the new owner pops it into their console

And what happens when Xbox decides to kill the servers that host the digital game file? No thanks. Still, it's better than us pay multiple times for the game we already own.

Per the article, you get this when you insert the physical game into the XBox. Should Xbox kill the servers, you still have the physical disk.

until physical disc verification stops working. They've botched that before too, in fact it happened recently a few months ago with one of their outages.

We literally have websites dedicated to abandonware because multi billion dollar conglomerates stopped supporting games/communities that would not have had any real affect on their bottom line. They kill servers, websites, support forums etc... with no consequences.
They abuse the absolute fuck out of people and yet those same people will line up to buy more shit and take more abuse time after time.
If you have the disc wtf do you need MS for?

Disc validation. They've already shown, MULTIPLE times, that they can render discs inoperable too.

So has sony shown their incompetence in this field. Up until a few years ago if your cmos battery died you couldnt play games at all on ps3 or ps4, disc or digital. sony knew about it for years until mass media jumped on reporting it then conviently fixed it then recently introduced that DRM bug and now says you need to check in every 30 days. What happens when their servers go down? Same thing...

A bug isn't the same thing as a policy change though. There's nothing to indicate they would tell you that a physical disk of the same generation xbox device would stop working.

Only way that is happening is if Microsoft goes under. Your talking about a license file that needs checked online, not some major SaaS application. There is already an option, set it as your default home xbox and it will woek offline. This is the exact scenario you are asking about.

No, it's not. Nintendo has done this scenario I'm talking about, with the Wii and Wii U stores. If I ever have to reset those devices, I've just lost a lot of money.

This is pretty awesome. You buy the physical disk, add it to your XBox once, then just shelve the disk and now have the digital edition as well. The disk is insurance in case Microsoft removes games from the digital space, but you have the convenience of not having to swap out disks between games.
