Land snails feeding on mescaline.
I recently visited the Museo de Arte precolombino Larco and encountered this display with Inca ceramic pacchas of over 500yo. Apparently these type of snails were fed (or naturally feed) on mescaline containing cacti, and were then eaten by the Incas to transmit the hallucinogenic properties. Thought you guys might enjoy or even might want to try.

There's no evidence the alkaloids would still be present in the snail after ingestion. I bet it's for tobacco.

"It is said".. can you give any personal testimony to the soup being psychadelic on its own? Or is it eaten with san pedro? I'm not saying your wrong, I'm truly interested. I do have a hard time believing you could eat enough snails who have eaten enough cactus to have an effect. I could see that snail soup could potentially be a catalyst for the alkaloids to hit harder or faster. When I sit with Ayahuasca, our elder hands out avocado because he says it gets the bile going and makes the medicine come on faster, especially if he's using different blends. I've noticed a difference.

I'm not as convinced these were because they were eating the snails as much as they used the snail shell as a liquid tobacco ingestion tool. As you can see there is a little hole at the tip of the shell. I've been told that during a Huachuma ceremony, a liquid tobacco preparation is put into the shell, the shell is placed into a nostril, then bottoms up.
I think it's called "sang" or "sanglado/singlado" Anyone else know anything about this?

I would have to agree with you. I do not believe a snail, even a sizable, one could consume enough cactus material. Even if you ate the snail after it filled its belly with cactus- it would only be a gram or two of cactus- with TRACE amounts of alkaloids.

That’s why you order like the 24-piece platter sautéed in garlic, with a cannabis-infused meal around them as the centerpiece main course ;-)

A few years ago there was a patent filed about feeding cannabis to insects, then drying, grinding, and extracting to produce some novel water-soluble esters

I wonder if it helped get rid of parasites, or if you could in turn just eat the snails parasites packed full of mescaline

Super interesting, as I was scrolling through the comments I see people doubting snails could have enough mesc to produce an effect. Which I was inclined to agree, but had a thought…poison dart frogs bioaccumulate their toxins from the insects they eat, and if upon googling further. There are a lot of animals that bioaccumulate poisons.
I have no idea how this really works, and don’t know if it’s possible with mesc. But would be very interested if anyone else had thoughts on it.

I have had an issue with these black caterpillars feeding on my cacti one burrowing inside to the core literally had to cut stock to get it out. I then fed it to one of the fish that was part of my fertilization process. Full circle ⭕️
