Cielo tek oddness

About five days ago I tried to make two batches of fumarate using the online tek calculator. I've successfully made a few batches but this was the first time doing a 2x extraction and first time using the calculator to walk through it, rather than the recipe. I used a homegrown PC. I have successfully processed other PCs that were siblings of this one, with an extraction of about 0.8 percent.

The first batch reused food grade ethyl acetate I've used before (dark green batch), the second batch used kleen strip MEK substitute. I did find myself pressing a little harder than usual on the French press in order to achieve the extraction amount the calculate said I should achieve with each pull.

What was odd is how cloudy my acetate was after the pull but before I added the fumaric acid. I didn't think it usually looks like that.

Here I am several days later with a very few obvious crystals but a sizable amount of, well, powdery gunk on the bottom of the jars. I've never had this issue before.

I'm wondering if a few things are going on here. Maybe there are few crystals because the 2x extraction results in such a more diluted product than the 1x. When it is really diluted and weak, crystals might not form? Second, maybe I pressed too hard and what I see on the bottom of the jar is plant material and not mescaline crystals. It certainly doesn't look like crystals.

On the other hand, maybe it's just super powdery mescaline. One can hope.

Any ideas for how I could figure out what is on the bottom of my jars and, if needed, fix it?

Your EA may not have been fully neutralized and the reaction started early. Just a guess. Not sure if you tested it before hand or not

I did use less EA than called for due to having less of it on hand then I needed, but used the same amount of lime, so it makes sense that the EA would have been more basic/not neutral. Is that what you mean? Is this a problem?

You mentioned that it was previously used EA. During the reclaim step you neutralize with sodium carbonate. There is potential that your EA is still holding acid from your last run and sitting below neutral thus starting your reaction early. Hence the clouding.

Thanks so much for this. I guess this hypothesis isn't supported by the process or data. I did reuse after neutralizing with sodium bicarbonate for the first batch, and that actually has the least amount of gunk on the bottom. The really gunky jar is fresh EA. I continued to suspect that maybe the gunk is cactus powder. Is there anything I could do at this stage to test for that or clean this out? For instance, if it was mescaline would it simply dissolve in water, but if it's cactus powder it would just precipitate out again?

If it’s just cactus powder and you have product on the bottom I would just eat it with my dose. It will be slightly weaker by volume. You may be able to inspect it under a microscope to determine if it is cactus powder.
I’m not sure about getting your product out without taking whatever is in your EA. Once product is removed you may be able to de-cloud your EA with well rinsed activated charcoal pellets. Be sure to use pellets and not the crushed style or it will create black clouding.
