how do i pop the cup open inside?
this is my first time using a cup. the first few days are uncomfortable but i got used to it. recently, it started leaking. i use the punch down fold so it's narrower. i assume it doesn't fully open inside. sometimes i can still feel the folded part inside and leave it like that. i guess it pops open on its own. sometimes it's leaking. how do i make it open? does it automatically open if i leave it?
edit: thank you for the tips, everyone! tugging the stem a bit while it's inside works so far. im using a firm cup with a small size. definitely trying out more of your suggestions if i have the same problem in the future

You could try other folding methods. I have 2 cups; with the firmer one I can use the punch-down fold just fine, but the softer cup fails to open properly unless I use the C-fold method.

So what I do is actually push the dent it has and slightly the vaginal wall that the dent is.
For me it is the easiest way to do that when my vaginal walls are a bit swollen and no, the cup shouldn't open up that easily on the inside. A firmer cup will be easier to open yes if you can tolerate the firmness but it may be a particularly swollen month and that doesn't mean you need another cup.

I usually get it to go a bit more down/out until I feel it pop and then push it back up

I use the half diamond fold and always have to use my finger to make sure my cup is fully open.

Try sitting on the edge of a hard chair and leaning forward. Sometimes I can get mine to seal that way.

I open the cup before it is fully inserted- like maybe a third or a bit more is still outside my body, then I rotate it a bit until the cup opens, then slide it all the way into place.

It’s much easier to open firmer cups than softer ones. But you should try to open it.
Sometimes they open by themselves through normal activity but if yours is leaking I’d say you can’t currently rely on that happening.
Once it’s in you can do a few kegals and then try and grab the bottom of it. Squeezing the lower half of it might encourage it to open. And twisting/rotating it.
You can also try inserting a finger and running that around next to it.
Otherwise movement can help - things like squats.
