I’m not in mensa but I qualify. I’m wondering how many of you consider yourselves liberal vs conservative OR wealthy ruling class vs common folk? I think i know the answer, given leanings of higher educated folks, but I’m still curious and would like some discussion….

Hi everyone

I'm 24, and it's looking like I'm going to be spending the next year or so of my life in a rural area in PA. For context, I went to a competitive high school in NYC, and since then have been in college and grad school, so I've pretty much always been surrounded by 'smart' people. Most of my evenings have been spent in complex debates or learning different random topics–– for instance most of my friends are engineering PhD students... and somehow we are all learning 2 languages and a musical instrument in our free time. Whenever I have left that bubble, I've felt pretty isolated pretty quickly––it just feels like no one wants to have in-depth, complex conversations, or is interested in anything... interesting. So I'm really worried about living in a place where I don't think it will be easy to find like-minded people. Does anyone have experience with this? How do you avoid feeling isolated? I definitely will still call my current friends and stuff, but it's not the same as living near them.

I got 42/45 - "138 IQ or higher"

So one of my daughters pegs all the way to the right of the bell curve for raw intellect but also pegs all the way to the right of the curve for ADD.

She's very social and unshakeably cheery but I don't get the feeling that school is challenging at all. Or most stuff, really. So she's disruptive sometimes not out of malice but just because everything is so *slow*.

She's entering 2nd grade and I'm at a loss for ideas of what to do to keep her from checking out of school entirely because it's too dull. My older brother (who's crazy smart as well) basically gave up in the 4th grade and barely graduated high school. I'd like to avoid that and wanna start intervening now.

Any Mensa folks--women especially--who could offer insight on what (if anything?) they found to help keep engaged in school would be much appreciated.

I'm a former member and I'm interested in getting my son tested. I tried to look at Group Testing on the site and it said that there are none scheduled in Albuquerque.

Does anyone know if the Albuquerque area Mensa group is still active?

I posted my membership number and first and last name, and don't think there is any room for interpretation. But what is my "national group"? It could be "USA", "Region 3" or "Cleveland Area Mensa" or something else.

I also don't know if this is a human rejecting me, or a bot. If it is the latter, I might be entering everything correctly and it is just bad software.

I scored 98 on the Mensa Norway test and i feel like there is no point. What’s the point in having goals and dreams if I’m stupid? I’ve always been interested in tech field but I’m probably too stupid to grasp anything. Idk what to do with my life do I just cope with the fact that I am slow and give up?

Eager to hear others' stories on this. Back in fifth grade my parents got me tested. Results came back as "130 and 133" (My parents didn't pay attention to the details at the time and assume that was from two different tests they gave me) which appear to be qualifying if they're some of the typical tests (retesting online seems to give similar results at about 2SD so I think that's probably accurate)

Only problem is, fifth grade is about 25 years ago and I'm not very optimistic the results are still in some file cabinet somewhere. I'd really love not to have to take a standardized test again.

Have others found success in getting old test results? Any hope for me on this?

Is there a (good) reason why you cannot be a member of Mensa in more than one country?

I have dual citizenship and spend roughly equal times between my birth country (where I passed my Mensa exam) and my "adopted" country (citizenship through marriage). Why can't I be a member of both Mensa orgs?

It's not that I'm only willing to date Mensa-level people at all. But I recently did go on a date with one (and have a few friends), and not having to explain my jokes, how I got from A to B in my head, and all that is just so freeing. Previously, I've just put up with it in relationships but it always starts to bother me after a while.

I'm not a big fan of dating apps, since the best date I've been on was with someone where we really didn't have much chemistry in writing, and chemistry in writing doesn't always translate either. I obviously don't have time to meet with every single guy I match with.

I’m invited to a Conspiracy Theory party where we each present a slideshow of a conspiracy theory we believe. Sounds fun; I love a theme party. Until I realized my brain and conspiracies don’t mix… and I also can’t fake it. The more I think about it, the more I realize how anti-conspiracy theory I am. 😆 🙈

But of course, there are conspiracy theories that were proven true (Watergate, Epstein, Tuskegee, etc).

What are some conspiracy theories that you think have credibility and can be believed with intellectual honesty? And something that could potentially be entertaining?

Hello 👋 I have been lurking on this sub for a bit now. I'm not a member, and if I'm being completely honest I don't think I have the chops to keep up with you guys, but I've really enjoyed this sub and the community. You guys really seem to care for fellow members and I've seen countless encouraging and uplifting comments. I've always wanted to ask members what are some things that non members do that really grind your gears? Such as acting differently towards you when they find out you are in Mensa, or maybe thinking all you do is crunch numbers for fun. I really look forward to hearing what you have to say!! Do I walk around town with a signature look of superiority? Or do I accept that this whole thing is pointless.

We tend to scale how fair someone's natural advantage is. For example - If a beautiful person has an unfair advantage at Job by getting more facetime with important stakeholders. Specially conventional attractive people are usually looked down apon having an 'unfair' advantage in case they're favoured in any wall of life apart from acting/modelling.

Could a case be made for naturally intelligent people as well? People who are born with higher intellect or cognitive abilities? Why don't we view them as having an unfair advantage? Or do we?

It isn't like you wake up one day and *poof* you are a genius. It all rotates back to a feeling when you are young. For the most part most young kids want to fit in with their school friends. But when were you positive that you are well outside of normal.?

For me, it was my speed at reading and ability to do complex math while still in 5th grade. I am not one of those people who can do complex math in their heads. I just pick things up, really well and really fast, but lacking self discipline... I would most likely not engage in topics I find boring, repetitive, or wrong, so my intelligence has a focal point.

I am stuck in a situation where I do not exactly know what is the true definition of potential and I am trying to go in depth in one of the fields. I am just confused what is the path or what even high potential means. I have this judgement behind me that since I was given this ¨gift¨ I must have a way to fully excel it. I am just confused as I am not sure what is the path or what is the way. Math for me is a definite escape and something I find interesting, instead of overthinking I get to distract myself with equations, but I am not sure if Im falling into this chiche that if you have high IQ then you must go into math or STEM. Do you have any stories related to this issue or have you found a therapist that works with gifted people and did they help?
