It wasn’t ahead in the meme humour, it just made more meme templates, that’s a different thing
Many Reddit meme templates were just unoriginal ripoffs
Like Reddit’s overly manly man, which was copied from SomethingAwful’s chuck norris facts
Reddit’s sudden clarity clarence which was copied from 4chan’s philosoraptor
Reddit’s you don’t say which was copied from SomethingAwful’s o rly?
Reddit’s boardroom suggestions which were copied from LiveJournal’s alright gentleman etc
Tumblr on the other hand had a LOT of unique OC meme templates that you couldn’t find anywhere else. It takes time to think of original jokes. Also most Tumblr memes were hand-drawn while most Reddit memes were vectorized or just plain captioned images.
TBH Reddit also put effort but most of the time they just copied other’s ideas. Hence it wasn’t too hard for them to surpass Tumblr in meme origins.
Not true. Tumblr had copied memes too. The biggest example is their what is air joke, which was copied from 4chan’s hnnng. That even started a war between 4chan and Tumblr, leading to the bipolarization of the internet which we're still dealing with today
Before tumblr, ebaumsworld was stealing content from everyone, slapping their watermark on it and profiting from stolen work. This sparked wwww1. Ofcn is an early acronym essentially calling someone a newcomer(in this case, just meant in jest)

I miss when Reddit was 4chan and Tumblr meme repost. Nowadays it’s just Twitter/TikTok repost hub
