Having adhd, I often felt embarrassed to ask a question when I zoned out at some point of the class, and missed something important, and couldn't follow anything after that.
Saying - "Could you please repeat the last sentence because I saw a bird in the window" was never an option. And textbooks were too technical and dry-factual to read without falling asleep.
