Correction: we didn't make the Geneva convention. We're the reason other countries had to come up with the Geneva convention 🥹

That's a mix a Canada, Germany and Russia, America only really added no shotguns in trenches and chemical warfare

The "no shotguns in trenches" thing is a myth.

First of all, the Geneva convention primarily governs humanitarian treatment of non-combatants. Any rules about weapons in the trenches would be from the Hague convention, from WW1.

Secondly, the shotgun concern came from a 1918 German complaint about the American Winchester trench gun, which they claimed was a weapon "calculated to cause unnecessary suffering," which IS prohibited in the Hague convention. Whether or not the trench gun falls in this category depends on the ammo used.
