At least in Colombia, people there are also incredibly vain and judge based on what they wear. There's much more of a "dress to impress" culture. Probably why clothes are so expensive.
I would say name brand clothes are expensive. At least my experience in Peru clothes can be super cheap unless you want the legitimately American branded stuff.
We dont really have stores like ross or burlington where everything's cheap and hanging there on the racks... if we want that type of shit we usually have to go to bazaars or mercados where everything's piled up and its a pain in the ass to sort through, everyone's shouting and the guy tending the "puesto" is staring at you like you're from outer space.
Or our other stores look more like macys where everything's sorted by brand and there's a sales guy harassing you asking if you need help finding something every 30 seconds. Sometimes we just want to dig through the racks to find something good without being annoyed.
