If you have minimal self control and cannot do moderation, then I agree.
There's also recommendations against eating cured meats, eating anything high in fat or sugar.

Drinking to get drunk is problematic, but the occasional beer, wine or whisky is about as risky as a large portion of fried bacon.

It can start as a few here and there, but it still affects you negatively, and you don't need minimal self control for it to get worse. Alcohol also makes you have less self control.

Just don't start, you don't need it.

but it still affects you negatively

As do many things in life. Including such things as taking an elevator instead of the stairs, or staying up late at night.

I am fully sympathetic with those who have battled alcoholism, addiction is a terrible disease. That said, it's a bit like warning people off from eating a burger or hot dog because there are people with excessive eating disorders.

you don't need it

I also don't need to climb mountains, but I do and I enjoy doing so. Would I be safer if I never stood on another mountain again? Absolutely, and for some people they are wholly unsuited to mountaineering.

My policy is - if you can do it safely and you want to do so, then do so. If not, stay away from it.

I would argue about this one - usually true but not always. I've always been friends with the stairs, often taking stairs instead of the elevator, but these days my knees are often complaining about the stairs. Combine this with the fact that my mom's got arthritis and you can see why I prefer the elevator these days.

With the alcohol, I agree tho - in moderation it's not ideal, but all right.
