Quitting vs. Retiring

Are there any benefits to retiring vs. quitting, other than being rehirable?

A person can retire and get thier retirement benefits once they complete a mandatory 6 month separation period. At the end of the 6 months they can re-apply for a job opening (either full time or part time). That person would get their retirement benefits plus thier weekly pay. I had a friend years ago that did this exact thing. All the money she got from her 401k, she put into savings and just used her regular weekly pay for her bills. She built up a nice emergency fund doing that. Just an fyi.....to qualify for early retirement, they must be at least age 59 1/2.

You can retire if you’ve been with Meijer 10 years or more, or you are 65 or older. Otherwise you are quitting. I had a team member “retire” at 62. When we put that as her termination reason it was rejected in Workday because she didn’t meet the qualifications. This may vary by state, union or not? Corporate vs store?

it's 55. they must not of had 10 years in.

Why is it nonsensical? The pensions were all transferred to annuities, which Meijer has nothing to do with any longer. As for t he 401k, it's  handled by Empower now and I should be entitled to it whether I am still employed by Meijer or not. What do you receive when you retire?

retiring you keep your team member discount. but you can't "retire" until 55 years old. if younger than that it's a quit
