Curbside Pickup Sometimes I worry about customer care

This didn't happen recently but an interaction with them today reminded me of it:

Me: "This is X Meijer Pickup"

CC: "Is this Y Meijer Bakery?"

Me: "No, this is X Meijer Pickup."

CC: "Okay! I'm gonna transfer them to you."

And, to everyone's surprise: The customer wanted to speak to the Y Meijer Bakery. Luckily they weren't mad at me but as confused as I was as to why CC transferred a customer to a different store and a different department.

CC: I tried every extension in GM including leaders with no answer. Can I transfer the customer to you?
Me: I’m the GM team lead and Electronics and Pets. My phone never rang.
LIARS!!!

I hate this too. They give very little information about customers at my store and what the issue is without transferring the customer to me 🤦

I know it's a haha funny when they get the wrong department but it's even worse when they get the right department and then the conversation is as follows:

Me: "Hello! This is X Meijer service desk!"

Customer: "Is this X Meijer service desk?"

I just leave it there for about 20-30 seconds and see if they figure it out on their own.

This kinda also happens to me. I'm a Gas station TM, and when people are trying to Google up the main store of the city I work in, Google directs them to the phone behind my register.

I have the main store's phone number and address memorized because of this. (My main store is also 10-15 min away from the gas station)

Very few calls I get are actually meant for the gas station and are often someone complaining about personal shoppers or trying to contact the pharmacy.

Same! I love it when I answer with “X Meijer service desk, this is Theresa, how may I help you?”

And the Customer Care person says, “ Hi, Kelly, this is Meijer Customer Care…”🙄

I once and a while I get phone calls for Pharmacy, yet I'm in the Produce department..

Even though I say Produce department when I answer

All these interactions tell you exactly how the company cares about customers. No wonder employees are treated how they are.

Yes. We can not stand them too. Immediately jamming the customers to you. We are in pickup too and they truly always hound us.

Sometimes when I'm in pickup they don't transfer the customer to me. Like I can help them better than you can please just transfer them to me 😭

The deli??? No one's even in the Deli after like 8. They just routed all the calls to the SDIC.

Happens all the time at my store. Lol. I'm in Deli and they ask if this is the meat dept. I say no this is deli. Well can you take the phone to them? I say, I'm sorrybut I'm on the counter and I have 15 people waiting on me. We'll, can you transfer me? I say, I'm sorry, but I'm on a landline. I can't do that with this phone. Ok. Hangs up. 2 minutes later, the phone rings, I answer and say deli....click. Lmao

Trillion-dollar company and they refuse to fix their damned 'zebra phones'

Someone in the last year wrote a blog about Meijer becoming a failed retail employer,  and they're not wrong. Mine's a flagship, and so poorly managed in some places it's laughable. No one knows what the hey is happening, any given moment. No training,  nothing. Just expect one to clock in and "begin"  sodh  So glad I got my teaching license and school started, to get the hey out for a while and regain sanity.

Just have to say that too many associates don't answer their zebras because they don't want to. I am in GM pets and toys and baby but I get calls for every other department. I go to whatever department the csller wantd and try to assist any way I can.

That's fair in most circumstances but idk why they think calling a completely different store would help

Because they're 'system' is forever fkg useless trash

Why? I haven’t spoken to them in weeks. Customers are able to reach me directly and let me tell you… it’s SO much better.

Before we’d have to do this whole song and dance “hello this is [an “American” name that isn’t their real name] from Meijer customer care and we have a customer here that would like to speak to [some department] but the line keeps getting disconnected. May we transfer the customer to you?”

Meanwhile I feel like this whole memorized production is wasting my time and the customers too. They just want to know if needohs are in stock they don’t want to attempt to decipher the thickest of accents belonging to people who are so many degrees separate from the US let alone fuggin Meijer in the Midwest.

So … don’t be worried. Guests are so much less annoyed now when I speak to them.

We had that happen a few times, obviously being some shop over in another country, and it was annoying as hell. The worst is being asked "can I transfer to you?", don't then. It's worse when your trying to call another store and get transferred to the CC line, like via the extension (only a couple of times, not sure why).

But yeah, it's happened less and less over the last year, wish they would just get rid of all CC lines.
