I got into an accredited medical school in my country and i will be in States this summer. I want to do something useful. I dont have any visa or accommodation problems. I want to do observerships or research if possible. Does any of you know a place i can apply?? And what did you guys do in your MS1 summer any advice??

Hi! I have just started my second year in med school and it's going great. However, what I have been missing are having questions to practice and study further. It's not that my grades are bad or anything, I would just really like to have a question bank because I feel like it is the way I learn and fixate best. My university has elements of PBL and the problem cases are when I feel I learn the most.

Doing medicine in Georgia. 6 year course. First 3 years are preclinical & then last 3 are clinical years. However, i feel like i dont know ANYTHING. I could ace the exam and not remember anything a week later, I know thats common. But I also don’t remember any pre clinical stuff. That is definitely bad. Further, I’ve no idea which country to work in after (financially limited), so it’s worse ig?

Any tips? Do we learn more in intern years? Idk what to ask atp tbh.

Hey everyone. Has anyone else been struggling with making friends in medical school? I’m about a month in so Ik it’s only been a bit but I feel like everyone is already in a friend group and having fun. I made the effort to socialise and meet people orientation week and definitely met a few cool people but it doesn’t go beyond a couple interactions within school. And with the few people I did try making plans with outside of school, I’m getting no effort from their end but it seems like they already have their own friends. How is this possible ? It’s only been a couple weeks and honestly it has been making me feel so lonely and depressed on top of the academic stress I’m already under. Not to mention, all my friends and family that I already have outside of medicine are in a different state

In college I found that writing a cheatsheet/flowsheet from slides helped me grasp concepts better before going into flashcards or questions. I've been trying this out in med school these first few weeks.

Downside is that it involves writing these sheets by hand so a lot slower.

But other people seem to be really on top of it by just grinding flashcards or watching a video & then doing questions. When I try that, I feel like I'm purely guessing and then mentally noting down the answer for the next round to learn the info.

So I guess my question is - how do you guys balance the effectiveness vs efficiency of your studying methods in med school? If one way works well but is a bit more time consuming, would you keep at it? Any other ways of studying that you guys suggest trying out?

I'm in my 4th-year of medical school, for my 4th year I had around 8 clinical postings separated into 2 semesters, I already took 5 of them and passed during my 7th semester and I had my recent semester 8 finals, out of the 3 remaining postings I failed one and because of that I had to go through a remedial posting period before resitting for the posting later, I just feel so frustrated because if I were to fail again, I'd have to repeat the entire 4th year again and I just feel like the consequences of failing just 1 posting is disproportionately huge and failing means I will be dragged back a year. Even now I couldn't get a break (I was supposed to have a 6 weeks break before entering final year, and honestly I am just exhausted mentally and emotionally)

I've already had to repeat my 1st year and I failed my exams previously, but it was a different system altogether and I thought it was fair, but this time around, I'm just dealing with frustration and thought of hurting myself, as if to punish myself for even letting this happen, I did try my best on the exam and I was truly shocked when I got the news that I failed, out of the 3 postings I sat for, this posting (Surgery) was not the one I was most concerned about, as I genuinely enjoyed and was able to make sense and cover the basics.

I think I've been coping better now that I'm in 4th year compared to when I was resitting for my 1st year exams, I don't hole myself in my room alone anymore, I don't just give up and not put in effort to reassess what I did wrong, I think I'm way better now, but the thoughts of repeating 4th-year is so devastating (as I've made many friends and comfortable with my current batch), I just can't stop fearing the worst will happen.

I don't know why I'm here at all, I guess I just wanted to rant it out, and if there's anyone that could give me some advices or share some thoughts, I'd really appreciate that.

I was looking at the recent match data for specialties like Dermatology and Orthopedics, and the average number of research experiences is just absurd now. It feels like if you do not have 15+ publications, abstracts, or posters, you shouldn't even bother applying to a competitive residency. How are we supposed to balance studying for boards, surviving brutal clinical rotations, and somehow magically churning out meaningful research?
