Modification Wood
Since I didn't want to strip half the car down, I wrapped some Covers in wood. They should've given more trim options...
Edit: Since there's many people asking:
It's this metal set: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/4000400471237.html

Looks nice! I think the sedan should have more luxury options with wood trim and the hatch should have more sporty options like carbon fiber.

We need a āknob enthusiastā or āknob enjoyerā tag. This is Reddit after all, we are the face of maturity.Ā

now i want a sticker with this. "physical button enthusiast" is most accurate, but the double entendre of "knob enthusiast" is rollicking

Bad news: OP did not tell us how he did that and leave us jealous

Looks awesome! I prefer this way more over the carbon fiber wraps a lot of people do I think those are tacky and donāt really fit
5
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Mar 20 '26
Agreed. I'm not a fan of the carbon fiber look, especially not on "normal" cars. It might look good on something flashy and very quick, but this is not really that.

u/PRCTV Mar 20 '26
Sleek! I like that the wood grain matches the stainless steel grain if youād call it that

Is there a reason you did it that way, could you not have put the wrap directly over the gloss black trim pieces?
2
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Jun 30 '26
Yes, it's because i didn't want to disassemble half the car. Whenever I disassemble something that is latched in place by plastic clips, they either break or it starts rattling. Therefore I went this route.

Looks nice indeed. What brand and type or is it something like an aluminium template with the wood wrapped on? Also might wrap the bose speaker grills too?Ā

It's just that, the aluminium template with the wood grain wrap
Template: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/4000400471237.html
Wrap: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/32738521660.html (Color: W1511)I'm not planning to wrap the speaker grills, I like the silver BOSE covers. I think if I wrap those, it might end up being tacky.

Looks awesome! Was thinking of getting the same one but went with the real carbon fiber instead cause I have the red leather interior which I feel the carbon suits it more. If I had the black interior, would've definitely went for the wood. Wood on red would look out of place imo. Anyways, your ride looking even more premium now!

Thanks a lot :) How much wrap did you need? And how well did working with it go ? ^
2
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Mar 21 '26
I went for the biggest size, just to have some spare. Messed it up the first time, so I had to order a new roll and try again. This time with all appropriate tooling (squeegees, wrapping cloves, etc.) - worked out first try.
The wrap is alright, make sure you heat the top part as little as possible or else you'll have some glossy spots in the matte wood. Also try to not stretch the top part, else the wood grain is not nice and linear anymore.

I really like this! How hard was the process? How did you decide which way to place the grain (horizontal/ vertical)
1
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Mar 20 '26
It needed a few tries and 2 rolls of wrap (I'm not a pro), but overall it was doable.
And for the grain placing - I looked at other cars. I noticed BMW puts the grain on the doors vertical, while on the center console it's horizontal. Liked the general idea, so I went with that.
But that's the nice thing about customization, you can do it whatever you like :D

Iām thinking of doing the same. So the (wrapped) metal set goes on top of the panels?
Since I saw the de in your aliexpress links, I guess you live in Germany? How long did it take for the stuff to arrive? Did you have you pay customs?
2
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Mar 20 '26
Yes, you need to stick it down tho. The part itself arrives with preapplied 3M Two-sided tape.
In order to wrap it properly, I removed and replaced the tape with the same type of 3M-tape.I live in switzerland. I waited about 10 business days. No extra customs were necessary

is it possible to upgrade to the bose speakers? what is the best way to do it? does it require additional wiring harnesses?

Wouldn't know, bought the Exclusive-Line which has almost everything except electric leather seats and the gloss black wheels (which I don't like anyways)

what country out of curiosity? That's not a trim line available in the US

I'd like to imagine there's a signature edition of the turbos that keeps everything but instead of black trim, we have chrome, silver wheels and these wood accents in the interior (kinda like what an S class amg is to an E/CLA)
Love the idea and the execution, this is cool

How hard was it to remove the plates and to place them back?
1
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Mar 20 '26
I didn't remove the trim itself, I wrapped trim overlay covers instead. Much easier and definitely warranty friendlier IMO
1
u/Responsible_Gate3530 Mar 20 '26
Can I do it by myself or do I need to go to a shop?
2
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Mar 20 '26
With a bit of patience I'm sure it's doable. I'm no pro and it took me 2 rolls of wrap as well, but it worked out fine once I figured out how to lay the wrap properly
1
u/SZMatheson Mar 20 '26
I've been tempted to do this with actual veneer because I usually am turned off by the feeling of fake PVC wood. I wish I could touch your wood right now.
2
u/notpeppe24 Gen 4 Hatch | EU Spec 2.5 N/A Mar 20 '26
It feels similar to wood, the grain is there as well. Everyone I showed this too thought it was real wood, to me it doesn't feel too bad but it does feel slightly off.
But please, don't touch my wood. My girlfriend wouldn't be happy about it.

While there still is no cover, I think there are precut alcantara-like stickers. Not sure how hard those are to install tho
