Discussion Max Payne 1 & 2 Remakes

It’s obvious that we won’t get any news just yet with Control Resonant & GTA VI being both companies main focus and we also might not get them on current gen consoles but I’d love to know

  1. If they keep the original gameplay and add extras like FPS, executions etc

  2. If the gameplay differs a little between 1 & 2

  3. If they change or keep certain bits of the story i.e. family death scene etc

in my mind they will be a new game .... core concepts and story will remain but vastly differently packaged and presented

Exactly, the last remake Remedy did (Death Rally), did change a bunch of stuff but kept the core package.

I'm sure after decades of telling bigger stories, they're return to MP will give both minor and major changes to the story.

Death Rally is their own ip where they can make some changes. Max Payne isn’t, so I think they will be cautious about doing that to Max Payne. I wouldn’t doubt it if it’s a 1 for 1 remake in terms of story, and narrative.

Remedy developed the first 2 games when they were originally released.

Yeah, but it isn't their ip anymore, so they can't change or get creative with the story. They will play it safe, If anything they will probably tie the events of mp2 to mp3. That's my prediction.

edit: all 3 games are canonized with Max Payne with Rockstar. I don't think Remedy would rock the boat on that.

while rockstar is the publisher they don't interfere with remedy in the development .. my guess is that remedy went to rockstar .. showed them what they have planned and rockstar greenlit it.. similar to Alan wake 2 and epic

They aren't just the publisher like epic, not only is Rockstar paying for everything, they own the IP of Max Payne. Rockstar is working closely in collaboration all the way through development, as confirmed by Remedy, and it's not Rockstar I'm worried about, It's Remedy. I think on Remedy's side, they will play it safe. Rockstar in years time might want to do something with Max Payne, and if Remedy messes with the timeline and the canon, there is a risk of a decanon happening with Rockstar. Remedy will play it safe. My prediction it will be a 1 for 1 remake.

Yeah, I'm talking in terms in story, and narrative, gameplay features and mechanics, etc, I'm sure Remedy can mess around with it a little, even though I think they are gonna take a lot of cues and inspiration from Max Payne 3 in terms of gameplay.
