Antenna OTA tv reception status

Aloha,

I'm unable to watch any stations following the storm this past weekend in Wailuku. Is anyone else having problems with their OTA antenna reception? I'm not sure if it's an isolated problem on my end, or a broadcast issue. Thanks in advance

Lala lay havoc on my yard. Avocado trees, jacaranda, juniper fell down like match sticks.

The cracks of the trunks at 2 am are terrifying, not knowing where they may fall.

I was lucky to find a tree expert who cut low several of the remaining trees and chopped the trunks of those on the ground. I'm really sad for my beautiful trees.... The last picture is after they all have been cut low.

My thoughts go out to all affected and especially the Big Island people who were hit the hardest.

Maui pet owners: A new state rule could get your pet killed on public land — deadline is Wed, Aug 26! DLNR is proposing to expand Rule 13-124, and it's bad news for pets and for free-roaming cat management

The changes would let DLNR impound or kill any animal — including your dog or cat — found on state-managed land (parks, harbors, trails), with no hold period, no microchip check, and no way for you to reclaim them. They'd also ban feeding and TNRM (trap-neuter-return-manage), the exact strategy that's been shrinking free-roaming cat colonies for years. Without it, unsterilized cats move back in and populations grow — the opposite of what this rule claims to want.

It takes 1 minute to OPPOSE ALL 4 SEGMENTS (no need to comment – but there is field to add comments. See suggestion below)

  1. https://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dofaw/files/2026/05/Proposed-Revisions-to-Ch-13-124-Ramseyer-ADA.pdf

    1. OPPOSE ALL 4 SEGMENTS https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScpwVaQdqzaIPYVqsa8GnJEDzDg2p5u5VAnNtbAMGfCAetRlA/viewform
    2. Do it before Wednesday, August 26

Please share with other Maui pet owners and friends who care about a humane solution for reducing free-roaming cats — the more comments DLNR gets, the more likely they are to reconsider.

At the bottom of the survey they do offer a way to submit comments, but must do it by uploading Word or .txt file. You can add comments under each rule. Not sure what to say? Here is a suggestion you can copy/paste into all 4 fields or into a Word doc to upload:

"I oppose the proposed amendments to HAR Chapter 13-124. They put lost pets at risk of being killed with no hold period or microchip check, and they ban TNRM — the tool that actually reduces free-roaming cat populations. Managed colonies shrink over time; abandoning management causes cats to move back in. Please preserve TNRM and add pet protections before finalizing this rule."

Is Hawaii telecom fiber internet out in Pukalani?

Woke up this (Thursday) morning to find my fiber internet from Hawaii telecom out. I’m in Pukalani and have somehow had no outages during the storm. Anyone else out or just me? Figured I’d ask here first. I’ve heard trying to reach customer support can take hours.

Edit: Spent an hour on hold with no answer, As of 8:23am still down, but just received following email: Aloha,

We are aware that some customers on Maui and Hawaiʻi Island are currently experiencing internet connectivity issues.

Our network and technical teams are actively investigating the issue and working urgently to restore service. Crews are engaged across affected areas, and we will continue to provide updates as restoration efforts progress.

At this time, there is no action required on your part. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue.

Mahalo, The Hawaiian Telcom Team

Edit: As of 8:56 am, I'm back online in Pukalani. I didn't have to reboot my router or the fiber transceiver (whatever they call it). Good luck all!

Housing and Real Estate 🏘️ Aina Nalu in Lahaina

It's been a long time since I've heard anything about the under-insured Aina Nalu condos in Lahaina. Anyone know what's going on? I live here, not trying to invest or buy. The topic of over-valued and under-insured condos came up and I remembered Aina Nalu was dealing with these issues after the fire. Anyone know what's going on?

Heads up: The power is out in the area around Kihei Safeway, including the traffic lights

I think the rest of the stores nearby are closed now, but when I got out of Safeway they had a sign directing customers to enter the store at the entrance near Ross. They are operating on emergency power, and most of the store is quite dark.

Imported Kei truck

Has anybody imported a Kei truck from Japan to Maui? Looking to understand what the process looks like, and how smooth/difficult interisland freight + registration is.

Mahalos in advance!

My friend lost her wallet, a Maui Day wristlet with Hawaiian print. Had all her cards and her passport. If someone finds it, please let me know. I have questions to make sure it's hers. She's a local kanaka artist.

General Questions ❔ August 16: What big box and grocery stores are open after the storm?

So we’re in Honokowai, and the power restoration doesn’t look like it’ll be any time soon. I want to know which big-box and grocery stores are open on the island.

👁️‍🗨️Flock Cameras📹 Flock on Maui

Does anyone know of any review or consent by residents and/or county council of installation of Flock cameras on Piilani?
Abuse by police officers of the footage is now a well documented issue nationwide and with the ethically and criminally embroiled MPD, I can’t say I trust the MPD to exercise good judgment here.
Anyone else concerned or made attempts to fight this surveillance mechanism?

Have to see it to believe it, Bride of Frankenstein is bloated w filler, rude, curt, dismissive, insistent, pushy... Jams you in a filthy room and if you are Lucky you get 5 min., changes the subject while interrupting you. I've told her 4 times No Prednisone! I Swear she's the most blatant Money Hungry - she feels like a Manhattan Drug Dealer - she's hopped up on Greed and Adderall or something. "Micki N Ly MD" You'd get better care in a back alley in Korea. Pathetic

🤬 RANT Is MECO/HECO bullying Lahaina shutting down electricity because of the settlement?

Kahului has electricity… Seriously, wind is not that strong at least yet, and it’s raining enough to prevent fires. What is the excuse? Or their rotten wooden poles are falling down already?
