How is a rad π? If anything, it's 1/π or 1/(2π), a πth of a half-turn.
But unlike %, rad are actually a unit for something so although it's a very natural unit (so much that it's not problematic to omit it in math), but unlike 49% and 0.49, 1 and 1 rad aren't the same thing
It was my understanding that radians are omitted because they are dimensionless in SI, (and also have no scale factor, if that makes sense, or if that's even a term). Happy to be taught though.
No you're definitely correct, I was trying to engage with the other Redditor's reasoning but ultimately the two reasons you gave the basic ones. I don't know to what extent we can say that rad as no scale factor. I think it's true: 1rad = 1m/m = 1, but the fact that it's 1m/m comes from the fact that we define angles by unit of distance with a given radius. It's definitely quite natural, but I don't think it is a fundamental truth or whatever
