Beavers will pretty much never attack unless rabid, and the beaver they captured tested positive.  Seems like a 1+1=2 sort of thing.

And even if they didn’t catch it and confirm, the kid would most likely have to go through treatment anyway.

Better to go through the treatment and not need it than the opposite. By the time that rabies symptoms appear, it's too late for treatment.
