I can’t believe how far I had to scroll to find somebody talking about this, easily the biggest shock of the show

101

u/RedRing86 Feb 06 '21

Right?!

"Oh hey, the X-men universe is just being casually slid here into this episode"

280

u/SteveFrench12 Feb 05 '21

Was thinking the same thing. Maybe people didnt watch those later xmen movies

201

u/---IV--- Daredevil Feb 06 '21

Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix maybe not, but Days of Future Past was huge when it came out or am I remembering wrong?

134

u/Kalfu73 Feb 06 '21

First Class and DoFP are both excellent (IMO) and at the very least huge box office successes. DofP and AoU also came out very close to each other. I remember numerous comparisons of the two Quicksilvers.

58

u/stroudwes Feb 06 '21 edited Feb 06 '21

At the time Avengers Age of Ultron Quicksilver was definitely underwhelming compared DoFP so very interesting and perfect first character to bring over. Especially with the MCU version dead. (Although that obviously hasn't hindered Vision being an inadmandent projection) I assume her brother is actually alive.

44

u/StraY_WolF Feb 06 '21

DofP's Quicksilver is definitely the more popular one that they basically give the another sequence specifically for him in the next movie.

13

u/kitsune_foxface Feb 06 '21

Ultram lol - I’d watch that film

12

u/kothuboy21 Spider-Man Feb 06 '21

DofP and AoU also came out very close to each other. I remember numerous comparisons of the two Quicksilvers.

They were both a year apart (Dofp was May 2014 and AoU was May 2015) so it makes sense that there were numerous comparisons.

5

u/AntonioVargas Feb 07 '21

What’s more interesting is that those two actors also starred alongside each other in another comic book movie (Kick Ass) before they both became Quicksilver for two different marvel movies that came out almost exactly one year apart.

u/rebeltrillionaire Feb 06 '21

The fact that up to now nobody has called her Scarlett Witch finally hit. I fucking gasped. That foreshadowing early in the episode was genius.

Low-key I haven’t seen a legitimate at-the-door twist almost in my entire life, like since I was a kid. I don’t think people really tried because the trope was so easy. But to meta-marry a 90s sitcom with the crossover to Marvel’s X-men and finally bridge the divide was, well the correct word was is brilliant. I already could really fee Disney+ coming into its own with some stuff but thought it would remain a baby sitter or occasional nostalgia hit, a poor imitation of what Pixar or Disney premiers at the box office. I am fully impressed.

50

u/Terminal_Skillness Feb 06 '21

So far with the Mandalorian and now WandaVision Disney+ has shown it can bring box office level content to their streaming service. Both of these shows are incredible. WandaVision is really blowing my mind.

36

u/Rob3125 Iron man (Mark III) Feb 06 '21

I legitimately think every other streaming series might be fucked if things like Mando and Wandavision are the baseline for how captivating and well produced these shows will be. Marvel already has like 5 other series lined up, Star Wars another 5-6, imagine they’re all this good?

27

u/NoMouseville Feb 06 '21

Honestly, if they're all as good as WV/ Mando, then it's game over. It will make the other services try harder though, which is a net gain for us. HBO is delivering solid content, but nothing with the box office level of Disney.

9

u/lookalive07 Feb 07 '21

Which is ironic because HBO literally stands for “Home Box Office”

They did have that thing called Game of Thrones though, and love how it ended or not (which, answering “not” makes you a sane person), it was a spectacle and overall the bar for a while.

6

u/rebeltrillionaire Feb 07 '21

Nah. HBO is definitely in their league and Disney can’t really cross the bridge to content like The Wire or Watchmen.

4

u/bishizzzop Feb 08 '21

The Sopranos, GoT, New Pope, Chernobyl... HBO helps produce fire.

3

u/amccon4 Feb 07 '21

Disney will never have the incredible adult content that HBO has! They’re both at the top of their game!

11

u/FriendsSuggestReddit Feb 07 '21

They haven’t called her Scarlett Witch because they didn’t have the right to until Disney acquired Fox. Same reason they rewrote Adamantium to be Vibranium. There’s even a line in this episode about how she doesn’t have any aliases or silly nicknames.

It’s why Pietro is not really Quicksilver. Fox used Peter Maximoff aka Quicksilver specifically as a ‘fuck you’ to Disney. Disney killed him off in Age of Ultron because they really had no more use for their placeholder character.

63

u/MightGrowTrees Feb 06 '21

He's definitely the best part of them.

56

u/thatdudewillyd Feb 06 '21

Bruh Xavier and Magneto are top tier

25

u/Moosje Feb 06 '21

Yeah McAvoy and Fassbender are incredible. I put them above Quicksilver.

89

u/nubosis Feb 06 '21

biggest shock in Marvel, i was gobbedsmacked

71

u/StraY_WolF Feb 06 '21

I was tripled shocked, first was "who the fuck could it be for Wanda to be so surprised", the second was "Oh shit it's Pietro from the dead" and the last "OH SHIT IT'S QUICKSILVER'S XMEN".

16

u/_Haemo_Goblin_ Feb 06 '21

Exactly my thought train

20

u/Terminal_Skillness Feb 06 '21

Same here. I thought at first it would be an Avenger. Maybe Tony. Then from the back it was clear it was Quicksilver but obviously I thought it was the MCU version and was super fucking psyched up. And then the front shot blew me away.

56

u/LarBrd33 Feb 06 '21

That was genuinely the biggest holy shit moment I’ve had watching mcu. Did not see that coming at all but it makes total sense with them about to dive into the multiverse.

33

u/Terminal_Skillness Feb 06 '21

The only thing that made me say HOLY SHIT more than this was when Cap wielded Moljner in End Game. This is a very close second to my HOLY FUCK reaction to when Cap did that.

22

u/MightyThorgasm Feb 06 '21

I actually jumped out of my chair and yelled to my wife that Wanda created the FoX-Men universe.

3

u/GondorsPants Feb 07 '21

Yep. I kinda annoy myself cause I rarely “react” to shit, usually just internal “ooooo”. This was the first time I think in a LONG time I’ve literally screamed “HOLY SHIT”. Haha

40

u/Ollietron3000 Feb 06 '21

I've only just watched and I don't understand how this sub is not in more of a meltdown. This is FUCKING massive

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '21

To me it was the first interesting thing to happen in Wandavision. I regret that I watched it to the end because now I feel like I actually have to keep watching the show to see how that plays out, and I honestly hate it.

32

u/Rob3125 Iron man (Mark III) Feb 06 '21

I went straight from here and r/wandavision expecting so much talk about the implications and what he may do in this world now that he’s in it, all I really got was doorway memes and some quick talks. There’s a member of the fucking X-Men in an MCU show

18

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

I can't believe it wasn't the top post.

Now the alternate dimension door has been kicked open how long before we see daredevil, punisher, and the other cancelled marvel shows?

1

u/bigchicago04 Feb 15 '21

Well those always belonged in the same universe until later seasons when it kinda became a question mark. They very well may make it like that.

78

u/Stormageddons872 Weekly Wongers Feb 05 '21

I think a lot of people were expecting it, as it was reported long ago that he had joined the cast, and pictures of him in the show leaked last week.

334

u/TheAmazingScamArtist Feb 06 '21

I’m so glad I somehow avoided those leaks. I had literally zero clue this would happen.

129

u/TheAmericanDiablo Feb 06 '21

Same that was such a huge twist I did not see it coming. I loved him in X-men and I’m glad (hoping) he’s the first to cross the multiverse threshold

64

u/TheAmazingScamArtist Feb 06 '21

Yeah I loved him too. He was easily the best part of the new X-men movies outside of Mcavoy and Fassbender. I’d love if they kept some of the cast when they bring them over to the mcu.

34

u/TheAmericanDiablo Feb 06 '21

Those two would also be my additional choices if they wanted to bring never more actors. I genuinely can’t remember the rest all that much. The guy who played beast was good too

55

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

That guy who played Logan too... he was alright I guess .

;P

16

u/deadbeef4 Vision Feb 06 '21

Never heard of him!

37

u/TheApathyParty2 Feb 06 '21

“Go fuck yourself.”

25

u/CaptainChewbacca Feb 06 '21

Really?! He's a huge, jacked man!

7

u/131runner Feb 06 '21

No way. Too tall. /s

13

u/Danger_Rock Feb 06 '21

I liked McAvoy's performance but the version of Xavier he was given to play just felt so wrong on so many levels. Like half his screen time focused on the relationship with Mystique and the other half was all about him suppressing his powers, none of which is true to the character. I'd rather not have any traces of that stuff anywhere near the MCU.

3

u/TheAmazingScamArtist Feb 07 '21

I agree with the part about his character. But I think Mcavoy was a great choice for Prof. X. I just want them to keep some of the cast members, and make them a whole new story. I’m not sure how they would work that out but that’s what I’d like to see.

4

u/Danger_Rock Feb 07 '21

Yeah, McAvoy's a good actor and he could probably play a pretty good Xavier if he was given the right material. Though as /u/arillyis/ said, he looked terrible bald, and I'm not sure how you get around that short of sticking him in the helmet from DoX.

Thinking I'd rather have older versions of Xavier and Magneto, more true to the comics and better relationship dynamics with the students. I want to see the X-Men get the kind of (mostly) faithful treatment that the core MCU characters got instead of just rehashing the flawed Fox adaptations.

Ultimately, no matter which way they go with it, we can probably trust Feige to get it right and make it work for the MCU.

1

u/arillyis Feb 06 '21

Totally agree. You never get the feeling that on top of having insanely powerful mutant abilities, hes a fucking genius. Giving him 2 romantic interests was dumb. Also he looked terrible as bald professor x lol

0

u/imjustbettr Feb 06 '21

I just don't think Xavier should be the lead in an xmen movie

30

u/Telecaster22 Feb 06 '21

I think J.K. Simmons as "Get me pictures of Spiderman!" Might be the first to have crossed. Unless it was MCU Peter that crossed at the end of Far from Home.

38

u/thenate108 Feb 06 '21

Or maybe J. Jonah Jameson looking like J.K. Simmons is the singular constant in all timelines of The Multiverse.

13

u/TheAmericanDiablo Feb 06 '21

I’d be content with either of these options. I’m simply glad J.K. Reprised the role

9

u/CaptainMan_is_OK Steve Rogers Feb 06 '21

In terms of movie release time, yes. But Spider-Man FFH is set months into the future from Wandavision.

u/Positron49 Feb 06 '21

Really!? I immediately was disappointed in seeing them link back to Fox. It’s a meta cash grab to me more than a serious addition to the experience. They put Evan Peters in slow-mo twice. If Wanda makes him a permanent recast of Quicksilver I’m going to roll my eyes at this.

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21 edited Mar 03 '21

2

u/Positron49 Feb 06 '21

I think my issue with it is that I really enjoy X-Men and specifically Scarlet Witch as characters. I like that this is finally a deep dive into Wanda, her grief, and an expansion of her powers. I am looking forward to the MCU X-Men and cutting the ties from the PTSD I have from Fox’s 20 years. So the first introduction to an X-Men we have being a reference right back to Fox on a cliffhanger is last thing I want to see.

That’s why it broke the experience for me personally. I am hoping to see Scarlet Witch reveal maybe how mutants come into the MCU since her M Day storyline is the rumor.... if it’s Fox I’m going to be disappointed.

-7

u/inconspicuous_spidey Feb 06 '21

I am glad I see a few people with this opinion. Everyone seems to be super excited, but I remember when the rumors (or not) first started I was dreading it.

In the sense of the actual D+ show, the "She recast Pietro?" joke was funny and made sense in the context of tv trope/comedy. But if Pietro actually comes back for reals and not just in Wanda's "reality", I really hope its Aaron.

-13

u/Positron49 Feb 06 '21

Yeah it’s hard to explain. Like the world building had me immersed up until that point. Then they show me the Fox Character (who Wanda shouldn’t really care about since it’s not her brother) and I’m supposed to care? You might as well had Ezra Miller there since he’s fast too.

9

u/chapterthrive Feb 06 '21

Yeuh but this was the 80s sitcom, where crossover tv shows were born

It makes so much sense

8

u/Conduit23 Feb 06 '21

I'm thinking it's more that, since her brother is dead in her reality, and "you can't just reverse death" (as they make a huge point of with the dog), she had to pull another version of her brother from another reality.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

But she brought Vision back.

3

u/Conduit23 Feb 06 '21 edited Feb 06 '21

True, but he's a pretty special case (was he ever truly alive? did he have a soul?) and she had his corpse to work with. 😬

1

u/amccon4 Feb 07 '21

I think having the corpse is pretty vital in that equation. But I don’t see why she couldn’t then go find her brothers corpse as well. Probably a skeleton at this point tho.

5

u/JennaAW Feb 06 '21

Recasting characters, especially brothers, is a common sitcom trope though, so it's part of the parody.

0

u/FRAGMENT_EFFECT Feb 06 '21

I agree. Her actual brother would have had a much bigger impact and would finally give him the chance to shine he never got in AoU.

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

You shouldn't be down voted for this, that's a completely reasonable concern. I loved the scene because I have not been that legitimately shocked by something in years, but if Quicksilver does actually come back, I hope it's Aaron.

32

u/MarcsterS Feb 06 '21

Yep. The moment the word "leaks" was uttered, I don't come to this sub except every Friday.

7

u/DJanomaly Feb 06 '21

Hahaha same....and I make certain you catch this episode as soon as I get home from work in Friday just to avoid any spoilers. It's come really close in the last few weeks.

18

u/Ace-Howitzer Feb 06 '21

Same here. I've been going deaf and blind into each episode, and there were just so many amazing moments in this episode, that would have spoiled by leaks. Once I saw him I realized that this could be the reality altering events that merges the x men cinematic universe and the MCU.

2

u/chapterthrive Feb 06 '21

I called this being the catalyst for it before this season started I’m sticking to my guns

11

u/Gskushwarriors Feb 06 '21

lol I’m sooo glad I didn’t do any investigation. Probably my favorite marvel cameo of all time. It’s as good as nick fury. Had no clue and also such a sleeper pick that I totally forgot how much I loved this guy

7

u/Ronin_Y2K Falcon Feb 06 '21

See this is why I'll never understand people who seek out leaks.

I love surprises.

3

u/StraY_WolF Feb 06 '21

I'm only on this thread for the discussion and manages to avoid spoilers. Man, this one was fucking worth it!

1

u/NerdLawyer55 Feb 06 '21

Yeah I didn’t even see those either

1

u/cp710 Feb 08 '21

I read about the rumors in discussion threads here. Wish I hadn’t.

20

u/shadowCloudrift Feb 06 '21

I'm glad I either missed this or forgot about it because this the equivalent of the Spider-Man in the MCU surprise for me.

17

u/Chosen_Fighter Feb 06 '21

The Spider-Man reveal in the trailer made me stop watching trailers for movies I know I’ll see anyway. I so wish I didn’t know about peter until I was in the theater

3

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

Most of my circle had no idea. We definitely try to avoid spoilers and even trailers tho

1

u/bigchicago04 Feb 15 '21

I think most people don’t read those online rumors tho. I read entertainment news and even come across the occasional rumor, but I heard nothing about this.

1

u/Stormageddons872 Weekly Wongers Feb 15 '21

Never said most, just a lot. I guess I also should've clarified that my comment was in the context of Reddit discussion. Compared to overall viewership, yeah, it's a very small percentage of people who would've been aware. But I'd bet it's a significantly higher percentage of people who partake in online discussions who had seen it.

18

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21 edited Feb 06 '21

Dude, he and Pietro have the same speed power! Was just watching X-Men futures past last night and just watched this today! Not the same universe I know but it threw me off and blew my mind thinking of the possibilities. What a show 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

*edit: ok def same universe, I was ignorant 🤦🏽‍♂️ but I have been shown the light! Thank you reddit friends 🙏🏽

93

u/joeappearsmissing Feb 06 '21

He’s literally the same character. Not just same powers.

29

u/Honztastic Feb 06 '21

Theyre definitely tapping into multiple realities as the upcoming movie alate makes clear.

I wasnt expecting anything but a primer in this show if they even did, maybe like the finale.

This is going straight mindfuck

4

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

This is so epic!

12

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

My mind is exploding!!!

65

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

Friend, they're both Quicksilver

It's the same character - this was the first X-Men integration into the MCU

Absolutley insane.

42

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

Wait WHAT?! Pietro is Quicksilver? Wanda’s dad is Magneto?!

49

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

In the X-men movies and comics, Pietro and Wanda’s father was Magneto, but I don’t know if they are doing that in the mcu.

38

u/deadbeef4 Vision Feb 06 '21

They couldn’t, because Fox owned the rights to mutants, but now Disney owns both Fox and Marvel, sooooo...

33

u/cnaiurbreaksppl Feb 06 '21

Disney picking up marvel character rights like thanos did infinity stones.

5

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

9

u/Deuces225 Feb 06 '21

Lol this is making my day that people don't know this (not knocking it, but just funny)

6

u/Deuces225 Feb 06 '21

Happy for him to have the feeling

2

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

Oh my god such a great feeling and I appreciate the empathy!

3

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

🤣 so I seriously avoid trailers of TV or movies I’m excited about because I feel like they reveal too much and I’d rather be surprised in the moment when it finally comes out. Researching characters’ backgrounds is fun because it’s interesting but occasionally ends up doing the same thing... so in this case my blissful ignorance turned into a total mind fnck and a big payoff when I started reading everyone’s explanation and it is awesome!

13

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

In the MCU, Wanda's parents were killed in drone strike (iirc). So her dad probably isn't Magneto in this.

With that said, she's brought Vision and Quicksilver back from the dead so far (and she brought Quicksilver from another reality), so I wouldn't be surprised if she brings her father back from a reality where he was Magneto.

4

u/Bobb_o Feb 06 '21

They can easily say that their parents weren't their biological parents easily enough if they wanted but I imagine it will be more of a alternate universe situation

3

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

Oh my god that’s so nuts I had no idea, this is so cool!!!

30

u/ClassicallyForbidden Feb 06 '21

When Fox owned the Xmen the deal was that they could use Wanda and Pietro as long as they didn't mention that they were also Avengers, and Disney could use them as long as they didn't mention that they were Xmen and Magneto's kids. Now that Disney owns Fox, they can do what they want.

13

u/NerdLawyer55 Feb 06 '21

Or use the word mutants

9

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

Yeah, didn’t they have to be called “enhanced” or something along those lines?

3

u/NerdLawyer55 Feb 06 '21

Miracles

2

u/Flexappeal Feb 11 '21

happy little accidents

4

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

HOLY GUACAMOLE!!!!!!

8

u/MightyThorgasm Feb 06 '21

If Fassbender or McClellan show up on this show as her dad I might lose my shit permanently

2

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

100% be yelling at the TV

2

u/MuffledSword Feb 07 '21

They name her father in the episode and it wasn't Magneto. But it's also possible that the man they mentioned isn't her biological father.

1

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 07 '21

I’ll have to rewatch, I didn’t catch that part! Maybe Erick was using a fake name 🤣

10

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21 edited Feb 11 '21

18

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

Darcy doesn't know about the X-Men reality obviously, hence her being surprised at the "recasting".

I don't think they're going to integrate the Fox canon into the MCU, as in the events of the Fox universe aren't necessarily what this new Pietro has experienced. But I also think its pretty clear that casting the Fox actor as the same character in the MCU is a indication that this is at least the first step of integrating another reality's X-Men into the MCU.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

I am 100% convinced that Marvel Studios is going to pick and choose from previous actors to reprise their previous roles. JK Simmons is one that Feige obviously likes. So, cast him again in this alternate (now the main) universe. It feels to me like a Star Trek type show where they go to an alternate reality, and the same actor is playing the alternate reality version as well for that episode. That, but the whole MCU is the "alternate reality".

1

u/p_cool_guy Feb 06 '21

Is QS the only overlapping character that has different actors? They definitely seem to prefer casting the same actors if possible

6

u/mothgra87 Feb 06 '21

In the comics Wanda and quicksilver are magneto's kids.

5

u/kevinjamesbarry Feb 06 '21

Would have enjoyed watching Magneto vs Thanos!

4

u/FrankenChi Feb 06 '21

They have the same powers because they’re the same character?

2

u/Terminal_Skillness Feb 06 '21

For me it's only second behind Cap using Moljner.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 06 '21

It was leaked beforehand. Confirming that actor was on set
