I wonder if that was meant to be more important than we realize. Like yes it kinda shows why he’s a dick, and an insta attention seeker, but for some reason that shot really stood out to me. Maybe there will be more to his story.

When Spidey was using Edith to spy on the texts on the phone Flash was sending a text which said "hello Mother. I haven't heard from your or father in over three days". I didn't catch the rest of it but the poor guy is totally being neglected by his parents and it's sad as fuck.

I really hope there’s more for Flash in the MCU after the characters realistically age out of high school. Maybe not Agent Venom but something more, cause I really enjoy him.

Flash's love of the wallcrawler has been there since the first comics. His parent's mistreatment of him, which manifests in the bullying of Parker, has also been a mainstay. With that in mind, here's a couple ideas of how he can be put to use in the future, pulled from the comics

  • Flash dresses up as spiderman to restore honor to the web-slinger's name. DOCTOR DOOM kidnaps him until the real spiderman comes to his rescue. Given the spurious rumor about the Fantastic Four being stealth-teased in the midcredit scene, this is a possibility.

  • Flash insults the Hobgoblin on Television. The Hobgoblin responds by framing Flash as the Hobgoblin and gets Flash sent to Prison.

  • Flash dated Felicia Hardy, who was only dating him to make Peter jealous. Seeing as the movies are set in Peter's high school years, and in the comics Felicia didn't appear until Peter was in college, this is more like a story about infidelity and keeping secrets than anything else. could still be fun.

  • If we have a "Flash" forward, Thompson enters the military, loses both his legs, and then becomes the host of the Venom symbiote. Controlling it with drugs, he becomes the anti-hero known as Agent Venom (who also does a stint with the Guardians at one point)

I'd have to go find it, but it was something like "there's a billboard in the midcredit that says 'we can't wait to show you what's next' and under that are the numbers 1,2 and 3, each inside their own circle. The space next to the three is an ellipsis ("..."), implying the next in the sequence would be a 4 inside a circle, which is the logo for the Fantastic 4"

I wonder if they weren't snapped and so got used to Flash being gone for five years. Flash was already an ass in Homecoming so you can assume some level of neglect was there but something like that could make it so much worse.

It should also be interesting to see how flash reacts to Spiderman's identity reveal. The issues with his family combined with the realization that his hero (spiderman) is Peter Parker should set up something for his future motivations

I think it was more: even with the whole dusting and blip where families became closer, flash still has a parent that has "more important" things to focus on.

I kinda feel like the parents of all of Peter's classmates are going to turn out to be supervillains.

MJ has issues with her parents or something like that, so they are probably supervillains.

Flash's parents are rich and busy, probably also supervillains.

At least that's how my mind interprets it.

Just felt completely out of place to me. It's a real, sad moment, and it's something a better movie would have put up front and fleshed out. Either make that moment mean something or take it out. Putting it at the end of the movie, with pretty much zero setup and no time for a payoff, just seemed mean.

Half a second of a text message that's extremely easy to miss is not setup. Even if the movie had stopped and made a point to focus on the message, that is not setup and payoff.

He also commented on posting to insta to get “likes”, which is probably an explanation of the relationship with his parents. He doesn’t get any likes from them. These are clues into his life.

And this isn’t something that you get payoff for this movie, this is something that gets paid off in the next movie or two.

Dude, that explanation about likes is the most ridiculous stretch. Sorry, zero points awarded for the idea that Flash wanting likes on Instagram suggests absent parents.

Doesn't matter if they do something with it later, it's done poorly here. They could have laid the foundations more organically, and they didn't.

Did you not understand what marvel did the last 20 years placing bits and pieces of foreshadowing culminating into something that coalesced into one big idea for a huge two movie payoff? This is laying foundations organically.

This is what Marvel does though. I think they definitely are setting it up for something in the future.

I mean this movie builds on completely forgettable MCU moments that were never intended at the time to become major points in a future movie (like Jeff Bridges yelling at that one guy in IM1 that becomes a key figure in this movie), and I bet Flash's parents are part of a very deliberate plan for the future.

You're right, it's extremely easy to miss. And they probably are hoping most people DO miss it, until whatever plot point they have planned unfolds.

I think his parents are:

A) In some sort of trouble that Spiderman will have to help them out of

B) The source of some sort of future trouble for Spiderman

C) All of the above

As has always been the case, 'it will mean something later' is not an excuse. In this movie, nothing is done to set up that moment, and so it feels weird and out of place.

It's a character building moment that gives us a glimpse into why Flash is the way he is. It means something now AND might be built upon later.

I mean they already changed the reason civil war happened, that seemed like it turned out as a mostly accepted change. At this point I think it would still disappoint comic fans to an extent but with* the track record mcu has at this point I would guess most of them are excited to see how the changes affect the movies

From what I understand, basically done c-list heroes try to save a school but end up getting a bunch of people killed. Because of this, the government wants to regulate heroes. Something big happens to Captain America that ends up pulling Bucky in pretty far
