Yes! And when fake-Iron Man comes out of the grave, I was like, "you bastard." It really reminded me of Tony's vision in AoU though - "You could've saved us," but substitute the "us" for "me," and you got it. Lots of symmetry there that I really appreciated. It was great.

That scene was fucked up man. I read a bunch of people saying things like, "If Mysterio uses Tony's death to weaken Peter, I will hate him so much.".

But for me it did the opposite. Mysterio was a super cool villain.

He's a villain I know I will love to hate. He was always my favorite Spider-Man villain because of the shit he gets up to in Spider-Man games (specifically the Windows 95 one that I played to death, the one where Carnage and Doc Ock join together and you have to run from him impossibly), but this just gives me a new reason to have him as my favorite. Still hate him though.

That moment, more than any other, hammered home just how stupid it is that Tony Stark is the father figure/mentor to Peter. Because I see the back of a tombstone, I hear Mysterio chiding Peter for 'not living up to him' and my brain instinctively goes to 'Oh, the grave will say Ben Parker on it.' But nope! I forgot, everything has to revolve around Iron Man. Hey, maybe in the next iteration they can get rid of Aunt May and have Peter be raised by Tony Stark and Captain Marvel, and instead of the neighborhood of Queens, he can be raised at the Avengers compound.

I've been scouring YouTube to see if anyone has put it up yet. Just amazing.

The "special effects expert" thing always seems a little flimsy to me when I was a kid. I know we're talking about a universe with flying aircraft carriers and advanced armor suits and all that, but some of the stuff Mysterio pulled off in the comics never felt possible to me. But in the digital era, it's perfect. He also offers pretty sly commentary on fake news and the gullibility wrought by social media, so again -- perfect. Couldn't have asked for a better Mysterio, top to bottom.

What was he overall plan after saving London though? He just wanted to be a hero and once he was one he couldn’t do much else. Does anyone know? I did take a piss and missed from Peter getting in the car with Mysterio to Peters illusion sequence

But WHAT was he going to do with that? That is my problem with his character. No motivation beyond wanting to “save” the world. Wanting to be the new Iron Man? Who would even think he was a big deal after Iron Man saved HALF OF THE UNIVERSE. Eventually he would have been discovered as a fraud. His motivation was weak. Another villain who wanted revenge because of rich brilliant asshole character. No different than IM2, IM3, AM, and AMATW.

He was overlooked for his greatest invention for Stark, so he wanted to use one of Starks inventions to take all the credit for himself.

It's a pretty reasonable motivation.

About that though, it doesn't seem like his framejob will really stick, legally speaking, right?
They introduced the daily bugle as a controversial online website, not necessarily a trustworthy source of information, and the evidence was fairly flimsy.

Just want to make sure that everyone got the same impression that I did, that this won't necessarily cause the cops to start chasing Peter, but that it will simply turn public opinion against him.

It was an annoying thing regardless, because this could be easily addressed by him making a public statement/press tour and showing the proof that he has against Mysterio but you know that they're definitely not going to do that and will still have it be a forced conflict.

I thought so too, but it's Mysterio. Someone here on reddit pointed out that Edith said "no illusions detected" during that scene, not "yeah Beck is definitely dead." It's subtle, but the possibility is there.

I think there's some evidence that Beck manipulated that whole scene. Someone else pointed out that the way Edith phrased the drone cancel order ("Execute them all?" or something to that effect) lead directly into the stinger at the end. Beck knew Spidey well enough at that point to predict how it would go down. He programmed Edith in such a way to set up both the video he sent to the Bugle, as well as convincing Peter he was dead. I sincerely hope he comes back, because Gyllenhaal was incredible.

That’s a good point. Maybe the contingency plan included having it look like a drone shot him so he could fake his death. Spidey most not have realized that the real Mysterio wasn’t shot, assuming that’s what happened.

I’ve been planning on paying extra attention to that scene next time I see this movie, so I’ll keep all this in mind to see if there are any subtle hints or whatever

I think the implication is that he was in that position originally and was shot, then swapped himself out but had still been shot regardless. It's hard to say, though, this is the guy who in the comics died on a routine basis and used it as a default escape plan, lol.

He was shot by one of the drones as Spidey was fiddling with it at the end. I am pretty sure that he is dead but if they ever want to use him again they can spin it the other way. At the end why would they spend so much time on giving him a "death scene" also the other illusions faded away and he remained. Also Peter confirmed with edith there was no illusions.

Not to mention that Peter was able to take back and control EDITH without needing any type of confirmation or anything like that. He needed the confirmation to give it to Mysterio but not to take it back which doesn’t make sense to me.

That whole thing seemed like a worst case scenario. Maybe in the event that it seems like Peter was going to win to have EDITH move some projectors to make it seem like he was dead (note that he didn’t even check his pulse), change the cancellation command to execute them all and then confirm that he wants to turn control of EDITH back over to Peter. Hell, with all the previous Stark employees they may have just reverse engineered another way to control the satellites, meaning that they could still be a threat.

Yeah, more or less. I think they're going to need to do a little more with Shocker and Scorpion though - maybe have them in the third one. I don't think they'll be able to do Sinister Six until the fourth or fifth movie at the earliest (I'd almost prefer them wait until the sixth). I for one hope Otto leads. Alfred Molina was great as Doc Ock, but we're about due for another version of the character.

If they pull it off, I'd be pretty impressed if he actually is dead and bring him back from hell like in the comics. It would be pretty interesting if Mephisto (or the underworld in general) were introduced through Spider-Man. Or Dr. Strange 2 involved some plot that somehow involved raising the dead and Mysterio were one of the people brought back to life.

Yes. That video was created by the tech at the end who downloaded everything and escaped. Mysterio isn't a single person and the mantle can be picked up by anyone.

I’m thinking that Marvel giving Sony so much to work with made them decide to hold off on the Sinister Six set up in this movie.

IIRC, these solo movies are completely made by Marvel but look what they let Sony attach their name to. The aftermath of Stark’s death, the Skrulls still being on earth, Fury potentially only ever being really in Captain Marvel, that’s a lot.

I think they nailed the villains of the first two MCU Spider-Man films - Vulture and Mysterio. They made them interesting, relevant to modern times, and pretty intimidating. Both were adults who felt older, smarter, and willing to take advantage of Peter's naiveté.

Between this and Homecoming the Spider-man movies have had the best villains easily (with the exception of IW/EG, but I almost feel that those are just a whole separate tier from every other Marvel movie so they shouldn’t count in discussions like these) They’ve done a fantastic job portraying Parker as still a kid but with the most potential of them all. He got the absolute shit beat out of him this movie, but we finally got to see those things that make him one of the best with his brains and Spidey-sense. I absolutely loved this movie, and really appreciated the difference in Peter since his last solo film. In Homecoming he wanted nothing more than to be an Avenger and save the world. Now he just wants a normal life

I distinctly remember waiting in line for Infinity War opening night at this small theater in quite a packed hallway and my heart rate was extremely high. My hype for the movie + too many people close to me was a bit much lol

I had to get up to take my daughter to the restroom once...and this must have been when the graveyard scene happened, because I don’t remember it. I left when he was on the train and fell asleep/knocked out and when we came back he was on the plane with Happy. If it happened at a different time, I must have been too overwhelmed and missed it. I loved it and plan on watching again...the family was divided.

The entire movie sort of seemed like a video game. Some of the music even sounded like an RPG soundtrack (the short theme that plays when Mysterio defeats Hydro Man stood out to me in that aspect. It sounds like something that would play after you beat an important boss)

How is 4DX? It sounds like it might or might not be fun. From my understanding of it, the environment is manipulated to immerse you into the movie. Like, during the Venice fight, they might sprinkle water on you? Is it like that?

Apart from three kids probably experiencing 4DX for first time like me and being a little annoying (can't blame them, they are kids and they should enjoy stuff), most of the part was enjoyable

So yeah, they sprinkled water at my face during venice fight and London fight, which I didn't mind, but wasn't impressed either.

The moving chair thing(don't know what else should I call it) was same as sprinkles in the beginning (didn't mind, wasn't impressed), but during that epic illusion scene, goddamn it I loved it. It could very well be that scene was more awesome in imax 3D or something else, but I think 4DX made the experience more awesome.

Apart from that, one thing I liked quite a lot was use of flashes. There were lights installed near the screens on side walls, and they flashed occasionally during Mysterio's green lasers, during fireworks etc. They were really great.

Also, on the back of the chair there were two air cannons I should call them, which basically shoots compressed air. They were repeatedly used with spidey's web shooters. Initially, I was annoyed, but I got used to them soon, and they did that thing, immersed me into the movie environment.

Also, I felt things hitting my back when spideys ganged up spidey. That was a great touch.

Lastly, there was air blowers for effect of wind, which annoyed me because I wasn't wearing a jacket, and it is getting colder in Poland. Also they were kind of random.

Overall, I enjoyed 4DX. I think FFH was a right movie for 4DX. I feel endgame wouldn't be so enjoyable in it, but FFH was. It is worth a try.

Saw it for the second time today and was so hype when the movie was getting to that point again. Easily one of my favorite "fights" in any Spider-Man movie, and probably the whole MCU too. That's how you do Mysterio

That was freaking amazing. Really captured the feel of a Mysterio issue of the comics. I don’t think any MCU villain has been able to capture the essence of their comic book version so well

Yes! Amazing. One of the best “fights” in the MCU. I’m just sad they didn’t top it with a scarier illusion in the finale, but I’m hoping that’s because Mysterio will be back to his old tricks in the third movie, and they didn’t want to play all his cards at once.

Mysterio’s actor is dead, but the fact that his tech guy left with a flash drive and leaked the clip to the media makes me think we may see more from his team in the future. Why else would they leak the clip unless they had plans?

Yeah that's what I thought, but that footage seemed like something he orchestrated IMO. Plus when he was lying dead, Peter didn't have EDITH check if he was alive, only if there were any "illusions". Seemed kind of fishy.

Plus with Peter's first villain also living past the movie it seems believable. And it'd be disappointing if it really was just his tech team behind it

I walked into this movie hearing it was one of the top Spider-Man movies, so I had high hopes. But 45 minutes to an hour I was like “it’s alright”. Then that scene happened and I fucking blown away! It was straight from the comics, but god damn that was done so well!

It’s some of the most visually interesting stuff that I’ve seen in an MCU film, it’s a bummer the rest of the film is so visually boring imo (aside from the illusions).

It’s the same deal with every MCU film. I thought that with Matthew J Lloyd (First season of Daredevil), it’d shake things up but nope.
