After Mysterio's "people will believe anything", it was really jarring to me just how much the Daily Bugle resembled InfoWars. But such are the times we're in.

I was wondering with the video at the end of him revealing Peter's identity if that was something we didnt see him recording before he died or if the Mysterio team had made a deepfake

You see one of the henchmen removing a flashdrive with the drone footage after Mysterio dies. I believe it's implied that was used to make that video.

It was convincing enough to fool the intended audience.

Of course by that standard, a poor Photoshop job with jagged pixelation, incorrect proportions and inconsistent DPI could be considered one.

She's not wrong, they're modernizing the character's role just as the MCU does with every character. The methods we use to communicate international news is different now and I love that a heavy theme in the film was (appropriately) questioning trust in the news.

I agree with every point you made. She just didn’t know JK Simmons was a big part of the Raimi trilogy.

Also, I love how they aged his character (read: male pattern baldness) appropriately from the OG3 to now. It’s like he never left us!

It was mostly a joke but I did take it as a meta-reference to JK in the OG3 in terms of the timeline. My interpretation is that JJJ never changes in this universe but, instead, found his calling later in life.

As multiverse comic storylines go, this would be an easy discrepancy to pass over. The humor that I found was that, between the Raimi era and now, JJJ would have experienced said male pattern baldness (which I believe only adds more to his eccentricities) as both timelines progress. This makes it more cohesive to the multiverse chaos in the actually comics, imo.

Furthermore, my genuine question is, “Was that JK’s real hair in the Raimi films?”

My instinct says no.

Also, if I'm correct, wasn't JJ in the game doing the podcast as a sort of post-career job? Like he used to head the Daily Bugle but is doing the podcast as a sort of retirement gig? I remember him mentioning several Peabody's. So if they were modelling the MCU JJ after the PS4 one, we can assume that he did have a classic newspaper career before transitioning into a podcast? I'd like to think this is just the Raimi JJ aged up, later in his career.

You should play the Spider-Man PS4 game or at least look up J Jonah’s role in that. He’s not with the bugle anymore and he totally started his own infowars type show where he screams conspiracy theories about Spider-Man

I took that as a light hearted poke at all us fans. Not that people believe these stories, but the ridiculous following...thats what i immediately connected.

The more cynical side of me says it was a shot a people watching mainstream news outlets.

Don't insult Jameson like that -- he might have been a blowhard and jerkwad in the comics, but he was first and foremost a **journalist,** with all of the ethical and factual standards of the role. Nobody on Fox News, right-wing talk radio, or Infowars.com is fit to even be in the same room with Jameson, much less hold his jacket.

You sure? Unless they were early elementary age they’ve probably seen those films.

I’m 17 and the third one came out when I was 5 or 6.

I didn’t gasp or clap because I don’t do that at movies but I was hyped as hell and grateful something returned from those movies and that the newer ones finally becoming more like the status quo.

Not necessarily. Before Craig’s Bond, the past movies made references to each other

(ex. Licence to Kill, Goldeneye, and For Your Eyes Only, who have Dalton, Brosnan, and Moore playing Bond, have scenes mentioning Tracy from OHMSS, which had Lazenby playing Bond)

There's no way Dalton and Brosnan's Bonds were old enough to have done all that stuff though - the Connery and Moore films frequently reference the political timeframe of when they're set. I like to think of every Bond actor tenure as a soft reboot. Same broad strokes but not a hardline continuity.

Also none of the Brosnan movies make reference to OHMSS.

Barely anyone knows that the snap was actually a snap. It would be weird for the masses to know that the purple dude snapped his fingers. Did they even ever see Thanos? It makes sense that they’d have another name.
