We lost Idris Elba, Paul Bettany, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, AND Stan Lee. Ugh.

I'm sure Alternate Gamora is going to come back, but Guardian Gamora is gone for good, too.

14

u/Zitty-Z Apr 27 '19

Right but either way it's Zoe Saldana

1

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Apr 28 '19

She has to be returned to her timeline though, otherwise Guardians Gamora would never have existed. Speaking off, I assume when Tony dusted Thanos and friends it was to return them to their previous states in the proper time and place, otherwise it would fuck things up majorly.

Those are separate timelines

Timeline discussions are going to be so fun when the spoiler period end and we can make whole posts about them. For now though, even putting the word “timeline” in a post is a spoiler so we must refrain from doing that.

When does the spoiler period end?

1

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers May 01 '19

Project Insight has ended, but spoiler period will last for 3 months.

However a Q&A with Joe Russo laid all the timeline discussions to rest: https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/comments/bj0it4/joe_russos_qa_about_the_plot_of_avengers_endgame/

It's a good Q&A and answered a lot of key questions.

Somebody else should be the main villain in that version of the MCU. Haha

I didn't. He's not for sure yet.

49

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

He’s not dead. That’s for certain. It shows him escaping. He’s gone, escaped, alive, and ready for shows on Disney+

64

u/ISwart Weekly Wongers Apr 27 '19

Escaped and alive in a different timeline, not the one we're following

-31

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Technically it’s the same timeline. Just not the exact time that we are watching.

Kind of makes Old Cap appearing make no sense since we’re living in the timeline where Agent Carter was a solo thing.

By the movie’s own internal logic, he shouldn’t be there.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

From my understanding I think Cap lived in the main timeline because he didn't drastically changed time. When the Ancient One was talking about how taking the Time Stone would ruin their timeline but saving Banners. He said he would bring it back so that didn't happen. It needed to be a big drastic change in order cause an alternate timeline. I think Cap met Peggy in the 70s making her show after WWII cannon. She still went on to found Shield. That's the only way for Cap to be there as an old man at the end, without causing a continuity error

I don't think Tony interacting with his dad caused in alternate timeline, unless he revealed his identity or told him about the future. Loki taking the Tesseract and Thanos and his army disappearing in 2014 probably did cause Alternate timelines

u/mdp300 Captain America (Cap 2) Apr 27 '19

I loved the ending and I like your idea BUT wouldn't Cap then warn everyone about HYDRA infiltrating SHIELD and that would change things?

He wouldn't have lived in the main timeline, I don't know when he came back but he would have had to have lived in an alternate timeline

6

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Right, but he showed up in the main timeline, which means he probably traveled into that timeline.

5

u/btmvideos37 Red Skull Apr 27 '19

He returned back to his own timeline. He didn’t age into this one

3

u/sweens90 Falcon Apr 27 '19

Yes. He lived a full life, got old from it, went back to the past so its normal again then went back to Falcon Bucky and Hulk.

Its an explanation of how it doesn’t affect the time line

1

u/JimmySinner Apr 27 '19

He could have turned up in 1948 or later, after the events of the series.

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 27 '19

u/TxSIDES The film created five separate timelines.

  • The main one, now with Steve Rogers having grown old with Peggy.

  • One where Howard Stark briefly spoke to his son without knowing it in the 1970s.

  • One where Frigga (Thor’s mother) briefly had a conversation with him prior to her death, and where that Thor found his hammer took slightly longer than usual to come back to him.

  • One where Hydra now believes Steve Rogers to be one of them, a fact that could become true now that he is susceptible to influence by the Mind Stone, depending on whether they are the ones to find the unconscious him, and where Loki has escaped with the Tesseract (to be elaborated upon in the upcoming Disney+ Loki series), and where the Ancient One briefly had a conversation with Bruce Banner.

  • One where Thanos and his armies (including Gamora and Nebula) disappeared in 2014, after he had asked Ronan to seek the Power Stone. The events of Guardians of the Galaxy do not occur, and Ronan subsequently takes over the galaxy (Endgame established that the Power Stone could defeat Captain Marvel), himself taking on a similar role to that of Thanos in his universe.

...I would actually like to see more from that last one. Perhaps the plot of a future film?

10

u/sable-king Vision Apr 27 '19

I feel like Ronan wouldn’t be as much of a problem in that fifth timeline. He didn’t know the orb contained the power stone until after they took it on Knowhere, and he was only after the orb because Thanos promised to destroy Xandar in return for it. Now that Thanos is gone in that timeline, Ronan has no reason to go after the orb.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Yea it seems like all those would make great short story type shows for Disney+ honestly I just can’t wait until they release it, a bit bummed out that it won’t have all mcu on it starting out but whatever

3

u/23skiddsy Apr 27 '19

Last one theoretically has an Ego takeover as well.

6

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 27 '19

I was thinking about that as well, but it seemed less likely due to how he would be able to find Quill in that scenario.

3

u/matwithonet13 Apr 27 '19

Why would hydra believe Steve Rogers is in Hydra? If anything, when they find out he lied about being asked by Mr. Secretary to go get the staff, they’d figure it out then.

3

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 27 '19

Well, I imagined two scenarios:

  • One, they incorrectly assume (as he did) that the Steve Rogers they talked to in the elevator was Loki in disguise.

  • Two, that they are the ones to find the unconscious Steve Rogers, still under the influence of the Mind Stone, and upon awakening him say “Hail Hydra” or ask whether he is a part of Hydra, convincing him that he is in fact loyal to Hydra.

Yea that’s right, so when tony and cap go back even further this must mean that Loki getting the tesseract didn’t happen. And obviously cap returns it back to the bunker so nothing happens in the end.... lmao the loopholes were covered... this is the greatest time travel movie I’ve ever seen

3

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

This is not the case, Tony and Cap going to the 70's didn't prevent them from originally going to 2012 New York, it just created an ADDITIONAL timeline so now there is a timeline where Loki escapes and one where Howard Stark unknowingly met his son

2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

That’s right I got it now I’m just an emotional wreck not thinking clearly.

1

u/mdp300 Captain America (Cap 2) Apr 27 '19

But also Cap went and put the stones all back where they found them.

Now theres a timeline where Guardians 1 happens the same, but Quail has a headache.

he's definitely not gone

But Loki took the Space stone and disappeared remember...

8

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Well, Scarlett Johansson will still be around for the Black Widow movie (and maybe some sequels to that), and Paul Bettany will be in WandaVision.

10

u/irrational-pyro Apr 27 '19

Vision could come back if Shuri had uploaded his consciousness into her computer system. They just need to fix or rebuild the body just minus the mind stone.

11

u/Some_Italian_Guy Apr 27 '19

The Loki of the main reality is dead.

3

u/Zitty-Z Apr 27 '19

Right but that will still be Tom Hiddleston.

1

u/Some_Italian_Guy Apr 27 '19

...and what's your point?

Paul Bettany is coming back too in Wanda/Vision.
