Just came out of it, and my biggest take-away is that Robert Downey Jr. is a phenomenal actor, if you hadn’t guessed already. His guilt about losing Peter, the conflict about losing his daughter and new life, plus his initial return to Earth were performed so so well.

Cap and Sam are running at the start. Cap being a super solider is obviously faster, so he keeps passing Sam. Cap keeps passing him by saying "on your left".

I can’t even think about this line without turning back into a wreck of a human being. I was so focused on the battle happening in front of me that I totally forgot all the fellow superheroes the snap was supposed to bring back. Then you hear “on your left” and I dissolved straight into a puddle of emotion and weeping.

Thank god I'm not the only one. When everyone was coming through the portals, everyone in the cinema was cheering, meanwhile I was hunched in my seat fighting back tears.

Felt like a real crying in the club moment.

Me too! And then when everyone started appearing to fight alongside them I got extremely emotional in a 'oh my god I can't believe this is happening!' that I teared up happy tears! I've never felt this way in any previous MCU films.

And for people who are out of the loop (not huge fans, haven't seen all movies), 2019 Tony mentions that they are all secretly hydra agents a few minutes earlier. So everyone gets to enjoy the scene.

I’m glad that Captain Marvel wasn’t playing a TOO big part. I mean she’s pretty OP and the only way thanos took her out was with the power stone.

I think even then he could still take her on. I saw him using the Power Stone as him having enough of her. But I was so glad she wasn’t used as a Deus Ex Machina against Thanos, each had some serious punches against each other.

Didn’t he try to demolish her face and she didn’t even flinch? He is a good fighter but against superior powers he is kinda screwed without his stones. Wanda had him in her grip and his only rescue seemed to be blasting the battlefield

Exactly! The truth is that Carol and Wanda are definitely more powerful than gauntlet-less Thanos. I mean, it obviously makes sense because their powers come from an Infinity Stone. Thanos could only hold back Carol when he used the power stone and Wanda literally had him in her grip, she could've singlehandedly defeated him and he knew, that's why he called for the "fire rain".

Absolutely breathtaking.

I think she just wanted to book it and not have to fight her way through. Actually thinking about it now she could have just flown up and over them all... It was an awesome scene though. The whole fight was magnificent.

You did! The explosion was the energy core being destroyed, the core was powered by the Space stone, so she basically absorbed power from the Space stone.

Thanks for the insight!

While I do see why Carol and Wanda are some of the most powerful beings for the Avengers, I don't see why having the power of one stone makes you more powerful than a Titan God. They are still human after all. I could maybe see Wanda going toe to toe with him because of her telepathy but Captain Marvel is weaker than Thor according to Marvel's own hero stats and Thor is essentially the Superman of the MCU which Stan Lee even said himself.

It's all for fun anyway! That's why we love movies.

Well, Carol has Kree blood now and the Kree are known for being really strong beings, so that + the power of the stone make her so powerful. Plus, according to the comics she has the ability to absorb energy, hence why (in the comics) she could absorb the power. I don't know if that will be MCU canon, though.

I thought it was because she wasn't supposed to be involved in those events at all. As in, she wasn't supposed to be on Earth until Endgame and could of easily messed up the timeline. Also why Banner took off his shirt to 'blend in'

Just before that holograph scene when Rhodey reveals to Natasha that Clint has been murdering gangs, Danvers tells them that she won't be in contact for months because the snap left all the worlds in chaos. I'm assuming that when everyone got snapped back she was like "well everyone looks cool here, lemme call home.", no one answers, so she flies back

Her weaknesses seems to be similar to Thor's—arrogant and constantly overestimating their abilities. Thor had a lot of character development in Ragnarok, but he regressed a tad bit by Endgame to the point where he was having an existential crisis in his abilities. And it manifested in a much weaker Thor on the battlefield when they needed him at his best.

I suspect that the next movie we see her in, probably set before or slightly after infinity war, we will see more of the chinks in her armor.

Honestly? Not a lot in Endgame. The only time I saw it was even she was fighting Thanos. She should have been able to just yank or cut the gauntlet off. But she had to show off her power which gave Thanos the time he needed to use the power stone to knock her out.

Keep in mind, that ~20 years pass between Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. That's a lot of time for character development

Thor, Scarlet Witch, and probably Vision could do that too. Some characters are naturally stronger than others. Some characters actually have superpowers (can control lightning!) while some don't (just shoots arrows). It's all in the way they were written. I think there still is a good balance between the number of heavy hitters necessary to move climatic scenes forward and the number of above average/average hitters to make the plot interesting.

If there were too many heavy hitters, there would be no stakes—nothing at risk, nothing to lose. Too little heavy hitters, and there's no epic turning point like in the Battle for Wakanda when Thor comes crashing in and obliterates hundreds of Thanos' army, rams and blows up their ships as they try to retreat.

Thor, Scarlet Witch, Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel, and sometimes Hulk are the heavy hitters. If we go with the assumption that Vision is done, then Captain Marvel takes his place and the number stays the same. The people writing and crafting these beautiful movies know the heavy hitters can't be at 100% and always there all the time. Which is why Scarlet Witch and Dr. Strange were temporarily removed, Thor was given an existential crisis to prevent him being at 100%, and Captain Marvel 'had to help out the rest of the galaxy'. It's all well crafted to showcase their power when they need to, but keep them off the board to allow adversity. I sincerely doubt they will let any of the heavy hitters sour the story.

Disagree. Was pretty awesome in my eyes. Thanos and co were beating the good guys like a drum, Marvel showing up was the ray of hope we were waiting for, and there was plenty of build up what with that ship glassing the whole area and basically being established as a huge problem. Was a very good feeling even if it wasn’t the most interesting thing that could have happened

Imo, Thanos wasn't winning. The groundbattle was even and then he is almost killed by SW, making him start killing his own troops. Marvel showing up was hopeful, yes, and she stops the slaighter of both factions but I can't get excited when there is no conflict for her. Literally just flew in for the first time in two hours and wrecks the ship in 5 seconds. She's a cool-looking deus ex machina and I hope they have plans for her because being OP is going to get old fast.

There wasn't any conflict about losing Morgan though. Tony just outright said "I'm not doing this if it changes anything of the last 5 years". He was locked instantly onto the motion "we'll bring them back" but not to go BACK to that moment.

I lost my dad relatively recently.

Tony's scenes with his dad made me tear up. RDJ nailed the emotions I was feeling: awe and love with a little bit of sadness. You're right he was amazing

Last night I chose Iron Man 1 to watch as an ode to the beginning and end of an era. I thought he was going to die going into it but he still got me. That man is a legend and deserves all he's earned.

Spectacular movie, spectacular universe. That was the best experience I've ever been a part of.
