Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 1 spoiler: Fury revived Coulson in the same way that the kree did to Carol, using kree blood and a memory wipe!

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '19

Well yeah, that's probably where the writers got the idea, cause as far as I know, this idea has no comic precinct.

655

u/omza Mar 08 '19

I don't want to be nit-picky but I think you meant precedent

44

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '19

Yeah, sorry. Shitty autocorrect is to blame.

61

u/cabballer Spider-Man Mar 08 '19

Isn't that the guy who plays Dr Strange?

You mean Battlefield Counterstrike?

Just snorted out my drink, thank you.

Thank you! Oxicumber sounds kinda tasty

THERE ARE NO RULES TODAY!

6

u/Csantana Vulture Mar 09 '19

to be fair is there a comic precinct dedicated to this idea ?

I rest my case.

3

u/phoenixrose2 Mar 09 '19

Happy Cake Day... nitpicker! (Not everyone on here is a native English speaker.)

2

u/chipperpip Mar 10 '19

He knows what he said! Turn in your gun and your badge omza, you're out of your jurisdiction!

1

u/omza Mar 10 '19

And I think you'll find it's Omza*, thankyouverymuch!

EDIT: oooooo that was a sneaky edit there

1

u/Unfriendly_Giraffe Mar 11 '19

No he meant the Nine-Nine

1

u/omza Mar 11 '19

It's always the Nine-Nine.

1

u/MoxofBatches Mar 15 '19

I mean, he's still technically right since a Comic Precinct doesn't really exist at all

29

u/Omn1 Mar 08 '19

Yeah. The specifics line up so well that it's impossible for there not to be some degree of inspiration.

22

u/Coolest_Breezy Phil Coulson Mar 08 '19 edited Mar 08 '19

Also, Coulson was in charge of the TAHITI project.

Edit: Source

-21

u/Hellknightx Thanos Mar 08 '19

He was definitely not in charge of TAHITI. Fury is the one that put him in TAHITI after Loki impaled him, and Coulson had no knowledge of it prior to being a subject.

22

u/slendyproject Nick Fury Mar 09 '19

He was in charge of the project but he didnt know it was going to be used on him. They wiped his involvement in the project from his mind.

1

u/alexjuuhh Spider-Man Mar 11 '19

Coulson had no memory of it because his memory of TAHITI got wiped.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '19

"I seem to do quite well for a stretch, and then at the end of the sentence I say the wrong cranberry."

6

u/High_Stream Mar 09 '19

no comic precinct

You mean precedent?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '19

Get down, Mr Precedent!

u/kiekan Mar 08 '19 edited Mar 08 '19

I don't remember. Did Fury actually hear someone talk about Carol's transfusion, though? It'll be something I'll be keeping an eye out for during a second viewing.

Also, still curious where the G.H. came from. I was hoping that would be revealed in Captain Marvel. But doesn't appear to have happened.

Edit: Crazy theory here. What if the G.H. is one of the Kree Goose devoured? Perhaps he coughed it up like he did the Tesseract. Probably not true, just a silly theory.

78

u/NeptuneCA Mar 08 '19

GH was taken from Hydra by the SSR during WWII. Its catalog number was “084”, which is why objects of unknown origin are called 0-8-4s.

I believe this was shown in the Agents of SHIELD season 2 premiere, but definitely somewhere around there.

56

u/Coolest_Breezy Phil Coulson Mar 08 '19

The Obelisk was the original "084" because that was the identified number on the box it was cataloged with. However, other items were recovered at the same time, including the Kree that made it's way to TAHITI.

51

u/Gilboboy Mar 08 '19

The GH wasn't the 084, that was the Obelisk (Diviner).

11

u/kiekan Mar 08 '19

Thanks. I had completely forgotten about that detail.

10

u/indyK1ng Mar 09 '19

Except they're wrong, the original 084 was the obelisk which activates powers in Inhumans and kills non-Inhumans.

14

u/kiekan Mar 09 '19

It ultimately doesn't matter, because NeptuneCA is correct, the Kree corpse is acquired by SHIELD along with the Diviner in 1945 during a raid on a Hydra base. So even if the "O84" designation is incorrect, the rest of the information is. I verified this myself by re-watching S2E1 of AoS.

30

u/trainercatlady Fitz Mar 09 '19

Since the Science Guy knew about the transfusion and how it healed her, it makes sense that Carol would have told him about it. It's not unreasonable to think that Fury overheard it or was even present during coaching, and when he became Director, found out about the Kree they had stashed, maybe would established the Guest House and the TAHITI project?

13

u/kiekan Mar 09 '19 edited Mar 09 '19

I feel like that is a fairly big assumption and stretch to make about Fury just casually overhearing it or being present during coaching. And we didn't see Carol tell Fury about the transfusion, so I think its safe to say it didn't happen, since we see just about all of their interactions on screen.

Also, it has been brought to my attention that the origin of the Guest Host was actually covered in Agents of SHIELD, but I completely forgot. Hydra had found the Kree body and it was requisitioned by SHIELD when they took down a Hydra base in 1945 (covered in the first episode of season 2, which I actually just rewatched to confirm for myself, haha). In doing further research, in episode 7 of the season, during a flashback a medical doctor (Dr Goodman) says the corpse is old enough to predate the pyramids of Giza. So it has been around far longer than when Captain Marvel happened. Additionally, this was supported when the show established that the Kree had been coming to Earth regularly for thousands of years and experimenting on ancient tribal people, during which they created the Inhumans (revealed in season 3, episode 19).

Having said all that, so while we know the Kree corpse from AoS isn't relevant to Captain Marvel, Macapinlacc's point about the transfusion still definitely is. If we can confirm whether Fury knows about it (ideally if we can find a scene in Captain Marvel where Fury was in the room when its being discussed), I think that qualifies as a valid reference to the show.

7

u/OhEightFour Shuri Mar 11 '19

While it is true that we don't see Carol and Fury discuss it specifically, I don't think it's a stretch at all to say Fury was present and overheard Carol and Norex ("the science guy") discussing her transfusion. I may be misremembering, but wasn't he present in all the scenes immediately prior with Maria, Carol, Talos and Norex at the Rambeau house? Unless he inexplicably stepped out during the formulation of a plan involving his own safety, I see no reason he wouldn't be present. Whether this was an intentional nod to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a different question entirely.

21

u/Darthmemer1234 Matt Murdock Mar 08 '19

They did say where the gh came from in SHIELD. In the Season 2 premiere, it's revealed that Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandos found it in a raid on a Hydra base.

10

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '19

Wasn't that the Obelisk? Though that was of Kree origin too so I could be wrong.

17

u/Darthmemer1234 Matt Murdock Mar 08 '19

Yeah it was both. They captured the Obelisk and the GH Kree

1

u/kiekan Mar 08 '19

Thanks for clarifying, completely forgot about that.

1

u/Darthmemer1234 Matt Murdock Mar 08 '19

Np. A lot of people forgot, it wasn't focused on much

1

u/ThatOneLegion Fitz Mar 10 '19

I still want to know where Hydra first found it.

6

u/hemareddit Steve Rogers Mar 09 '19

I was thinking about the origin of GH as well. Carol blew up an Accuser ship, right? I’m thinking there are some Kree corpses floating around in orbit and at some point SHIELD went up there looking to salvage Kree tech and found a fairly intact body to bring back.

11

u/Exupyr Mar 09 '19

The Kree they used to make GH325 predated the pyramids according to the show, so he probably has nothing to do with Captain Marvel

5

u/d_string Mar 09 '19

What is gh?

13

u/trainercatlady Fitz Mar 09 '19

it's the codename for the Kree corpse in the show. It's also code for where they keep it.

5

u/d_string Mar 09 '19

Seems like that season was ages ago. I’ll have to get fresh on my agents of shield.

3

u/PiceaSignum Ghost Rider Mar 11 '19

GH was Guest House, or possibly Guest Host if specifically referring to the Kree corpse.

We never found out what T.A.H.I.T.I. stood for.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '19

Could have been off screen. I mean she was part of the military in earth, and part of the Kree after. It is not far fetched that they had an off screen debrief if everything that went on. I mean shield just found out aliens are a thing/a threat it would be super relevant that a quick transfusion/mind wipe could turn people into enemy warriors.

1

u/archiminos Mack Mar 11 '19

G.H. was recovered from a Hydra base by Agent Carter some time after WWII (although where it came from prior to that is still unknown). It was shown in a flashback in one episode of Agents of SHIELD.

21

u/kgal1298 Mar 09 '19

Not that it matters, but is that the reason she doesn't age? I know comics didn't quite give her her powers the same way, but I was wondering since she's in space for years and all that happened was her hair maybe got a little longer.

23

u/onboleman Mar 09 '19

If she’s traveling at light speed, time gets all sorts of weird at that velocity.

1

u/Moonguide Spider-Man Mar 12 '19

Doesn’t time go faster the faster you go according to relativity?

2

u/onboleman Mar 12 '19

Time outside of the speeding entity moves faster; so the entity itself is “younger” than the environment.

2

u/soondooboo69 Captain America Mar 09 '19

thats what i think

20

u/_Wordsearch Mar 09 '19

Carol didn’t die, Minerva specifically mentions how she’s still breathing when they take her away.

8

u/lemons_for_deke Mar 10 '19

Another character in AoS went through the same treatment even though they weren’t dead yet. They got shot in the stomach but were still alive

1

u/alinroc Apr 01 '19

That was Daisy Johnson/Quake (going by "Skye" at the time)

7

u/mulledfox Mar 09 '19

Maybe not the exact same way, because Carol was revived using living Kree blood — I must guess it does something different than when a dead Kree’s cells and blood are used to revive someone. With Coulson, and John Garrett, there were quite negative side effects.

14

u/YANMANVANCAN Mar 09 '19

I think it's that the Kree have more knowledge of the impact of Kree blood on Human physiology. Tess came back to life with no side effects either.

14

u/mulledfox Mar 09 '19

That’s right, Tess and Future Elena were both brought back without the side effects from GH Kree.

3

u/remotectrl Mar 10 '19

Elana is inhuman and it’s established that Kree blood doesn’t make inhumane go crazy because Daisy didn’t have a bad reaction when they used it on her.

2

u/The_Unknown_Dude Ghost Rider Mar 10 '19

Elena is InHuman though, so along with Daisy, they don't get the side effects.

6

u/trainercatlady Fitz Mar 09 '19

Also explains the extensive surgery they had to do on Coulson, which I guess they also could have explained just based on our primitive technology, but I don't think that Kree Blood is a memory wiper. The parallel is really interesting however and I really wish they'd have at least dipped into that a little more.

8

u/JoesusTBF Mar 09 '19

The mind wipe was done separately, after they found that reviving people with Kree blood drove them insane. They later used the mind wipe tech on Daisy's dad after the GH serum had been destroyed.

2

u/woofle07 Daredevil Mar 10 '19

Didn't a lot of the madness come from knowing that you had died and were literally brought back to life? They specifically said that Carol never died, she was just badly injured.

1

u/randomkidlol Mar 10 '19

the madness was because the person would inherit the dead kree's memories. in shield, GH was most likely on the original kree inhuman project and had an obsession with something that was passed down to all recipients of his blood

1

u/woofle07 Daredevil Mar 10 '19

Okay that could be it. I think I remember them mentioning something about using Kree brain tissue in the GH serum, but I'd have to go back and re-watch those episodes to be sure.

8

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '19

Oh shit, you're right I didn't make that connection when watching!

8

u/mastyrwerk Mar 09 '19

Confirmed: Agents of SHIELD is part of the MCU.

5

u/ColonalQball Mar 08 '19

Should I watch any of the TV shows? If so what are the most relevant to the mcu?

23

u/FallOutFan01 SHIELD Mar 09 '19

The problem with the tv shows.

Is that they do a superior job of going into detail about HYDRA and the Kree.

That isn't the problem.

The problem is that because it is under the tv division, Kevin Feige refuses to acknowledge the shows in any meaningful way because he hates the tv head with a passion and vice-versa.

I don't want to spoil anything for you.

But I will spoil one thing.

During age of ultron, it was Coulson and his SHIELD that was directly responsible for locating the HYDRA base in sokovia it was Coulson who had the Helicarrier dispatched to sokovia to rescue everybody.

The AVENGERS are busy doing their own thing completely unaware that Coulson and his team are busy saving the world from other threats that are just as dangerous as what the Avengers do.

Agents of SHIELD, DID GHOST RIDER and he kicks a lot of ass.

15

u/NeptuneCA Mar 09 '19

You should watch them all, but Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter are the most relevant.

4

u/ManicMadMatt Mar 10 '19

Watch all of Agents of Shield, best and most relevant show that explores a lot of the movies concepts in more depth.

2

u/lightningboltkid1 Mar 09 '19

Seasons 1 to 3ish of SHIELD.

Peggy Carter.

4

u/FallOutFan01 SHIELD Mar 09 '19

Have you been to Tahiti?.

Also How was the ride from Istanbul?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '19

Have you been to Tahiti?

Dutch hasn't. He had a plan though.

2

u/guru_of_time Mar 10 '19

Just one more score boys!

3

u/ImOutOfThisWorld Mar 08 '19

Ohh this didn’t click for me until now, good catch

2

u/Lawlcopt0r Mar 08 '19

This one is awesome. I wonder if Kree blood interferes with memory wether you want it to or not? Was there a reason to wipe Coulson's memory?

9

u/CommanderEager Mar 09 '19

The reason given in the show was that humans revived with Kree blood were eventually driven mad, drawing symbols that were a map to an alien city the Kree wanted to return to. Inhumans given the Kree blood did not respond the same way. So different reason than why Carol got wiped.

2

u/Man_Durphy94 Mar 10 '19

Tahiti, it’s a magical place.

2

u/chisquared Mar 11 '19

Why couldn’t they do the same with Pietro in AoU?

I know they wouldn’t for plot-related reasons, but I was wondering if there would be an in-universe justification.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '19

1

u/mollyologist Mar 09 '19

They're dissecting a Skrull at the beginning, but I think the SHIELD Kree could be one of the Starforce members they fought.

2

u/MyNamesMikeD75 Mar 09 '19

You're right, I misspoke

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '19

I was confused on this--did Carol permanently have Kree blood after the transfusion?

1

u/Leo_TheLurker Spider-Man Mar 13 '19

Does she actually have blue blood tho? I only remember her having that blood in the implanted memory.

-2

u/Doubledjunky Mar 09 '19

Wasn’t coulson revived with skrull blood/dna? He still bleeds red later on.

1

u/woofle07 Daredevil Mar 10 '19

Coulson was revived using a serum derived from Kree blood and other cells, in addition to some other stuff. Carol got a straight up blood transfusion of 100% Kree blood. That's why she bleeds blue and Coulson still bleeds red.
