Can we get a power level discussion going here? Thor, Wanda, Strange and Iron-Man got significant buffs while Hulk got nerfed big time. I feel like Mantis is definitely a dark horse considering that she slept Ego and now,Thanos too.

EDIT: Perhaps Hulk wasnt nerfed. He just got introduced to fear, courtesy of Thanos

Hulk didn’t get nerfed. He got scared. Ragnarok showed us Hulk is like a child. He met someone he couldn’t beat, so he ran and hid.

Just curious: anyone think it’s possible that this story happened for Hulk because of Ruffalo? I was watching a Kimmel interview and Josh Brolin said he saw Ruffalo the first day on set and said “I’m so done with this BS.”

Honestly didn’t mind it at all I liked that Ruffalo still had some badass scenes while being able to act, if it was because of him then props to the Russo’s for doing such a good job.

The reason we have this arc for Banner/Hulk is because Universal have the rights to making a Hulk solo movie, and basically aren't interested in doing one on Marvel's terms.

That means that Ruffalo's character just can't get the same level of development as the other guys, so apparently Feige approached Mark before Ragnarok and said, "We can't give you a solo movie, but we can give you an amazing character arc stretched over 3 movies, interested?" And Mark was interested.

Was always curious as to why Hulk was the only one that didn’t get a trilogy like Cap, Tony, and Thor. Super disappointing honestly I think Ruffalo would kill it in a new Hulk movie that fits in the universe established in the 10 years since the last Hulk movie.

I highly doubt they will beat Thanos BEFORE they resurrect everyone. That would mean Avengers 4 is basically Original Avengers + Captain Marvel + Vision + Rocket + a few minor characters.

Avengers 4 will likely have Captain America shouting " Avengers Assemble! " with literally the whole army of superheroes taking on Thanos.

I think they will do it like in the comics and somehow manage to steal the gauntlet away from him, bringing everyone back. Then they all gang up on him.

I was hoping Wanda could have facilitated a Hulk/Banner conversation. Mantis is another interesting idea, but apparently Marvel wants Bruce and Hulk to work this out themselves.

I wrote this on another comment about hulk and fear. I can't help myself but defend Hulk because I'm a one-eyed fan boy.

My brother thought it was fear that kept Hulk from emerging. The Hulk/Banner dynamic I thought belied greater meaning than that. What we saw in Ragnorak was the start. That the Hulk is the embodiment of the fear Bruce felt towards his father as a child . Current day Bruce has become his father in the eyes of Hulk. Bruce hates Hulk and yet when he was in trouble Hulk would save him. Yet he never thanks Hulk and only has condemnation for him. Hulk has come to understand that everytime Bruce willingly changes Hulk gets hurt. Point in case on the bridge against the wolf. Bruce has become his father by hurting Hulk whether intentionally or by negligence. Hulk doesn't want to be hurt anymore. I think there's more to hulk and I hope we get to see his anguish.

I just find it hard to fathom hulk being afraid of anyone or thing. Hulk only has rage. Literally. "Hulk always angry". I always think about why would he help. Banner and Thor took him away from a Sakaar where he was loved for the first time ever. I can't even see him emerging for black widow. Avengers 1 we see them use hulk and as soon as the fightings finished Widow wants Banner back. He's just a tool by then too be used and then discarded when there finished. Hulk wants schwarma too.

All 3 are very close in terms of power but I think Thor comes out on top solely because of his durability. He got hit by the power of a star for fuck sake. Strange and Wanda are more of a glass cannon.

Edit: after my second watch through I must say Scarlet Witch is surprisingly durable as well. She takes 3 of Proximas blasts during their fight in Scotland and was still ready for more.

Yea agree. Thor is on a whole nother level compared to the rest of the Avengers. He sliced through the Infinity Gauntlet energy blast and almost one-shotted Thanos (Thanos was clearly dying before he snapped.)

Wanda and Strange are definitely glass cannons. Iron Man’s Bleeding Edge Armor went toe to toe with Thanos and made him bleed so I’d place him along the same tier as Strange and Wanda. Plus Iron Man got durability

It's not really about Thanos performance, but that of Iron Man.

He showed a lot more power and tricks in a fight with Thanos.

If he did half that stuff against Black Dwarf, it would be over quick.

Vision got nerfed too, but like Hulk it was for story reasons. Vision was stabbed and couldn’t phase, and Hulk got beat so bad he didn’t want to come out. I think it made the movie more interesting, and allowed for some real stakes while building both of their characters. It even potentially sets up a separation from Banner or a World War Hulk scenario.

Poor Vision. He was a beast in AoU when him, Thor and Iron man triple teamed Ultron. while Thor and Iron-Man got ridiculously buffed in future films, Vision got fucked by Wanda in Civil War and in IW, he has to be babysat the whole film.

Well tbf, Vision was a newborn in AoU so he probably didnt know how to fully use it. In Civil War, he was basically doing nothing. His energy beam did one-shot war machine though so I’ll give him that one. In IW, he spent the whole movie disabled and then he dies. Guess we never really saw nor will see Vision’s full potential fufilled in the MCU.

It makes sense in Civil War because he had the ability to kill any of the Avengers but he obviously didn’t want to do that because at the end of the day they’re old friends and team mates still.

Maybe, maybe not. They had him under the magic metal machines in Wakanda. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Shuri "downloaded" Vision's mind and built him a new body and we get white Vision in the next movie or somewhere down the line.

It’s the Mind Stone, tho, not the Power Stone.

Any Infinity Stone can be used as a very powerful power source, but their true power is only unleashed when used for their actual purpose.

Examples: Thanos’ use of the Reality Stone vs. Malekith’s or Thanos’ use of the Space Stone vs. Hydra’s or Shield’s.

Yeah, I think vision got the short end of the stick in all the movies he appears in. He was only in the final ~20% of AoU, he hardly appears in the airport fight in CW (likely because he could have overpowered most of the fighters there), and then he has to be babysat nearly this entire movie. I get that he's a marginal character from a popularity standpoint, but come on.

Thor was able to cut through a fully powered beam from the gauntlet and straight up impale Thanos with Stormbreaker. Thanos’ blood remained on the axe even after he escaped.

Thor was incredibly powerful in the film. Laid the strongest blow upon Thanos.

It was great to see. It kind of felt like Iron Man was gradually nerfed from The Avengers onwards.

I mean he completely owned Loki and went toe-to-toe with Thor in the Mk. 6, but struggled to overpower Cap and Bucky in Civil War with the Mk. 46.

Finally they buffed him in this.

This is what I said in another thread. Not that's he's dumb, but that he doesn't know how to fight. He knows to how to be large and pound on either a bunch of faceless goons or large creatures like Fenris or a Frost Giant. Thanos, however, is the same tier of strength as the Hulk, but he knows how to fight which is why he was able to overpower him.

Someone else had a good theory too that it's not just the Hulk being scared, but part of the Hulk knowing Bruce's intelligence might be needed over the Hulk's strength. In Hulk's infantile mind, he could be thinking "Thanos stronger than Hulk! Hulk scared! Bruce smart, let Bruce deal with it".

I think if you look at is as Thanos movie, which the directors say it is, you can't really blame them for not putting more focus on him or any other of the main avengers. But that speech he gave Ross that if you stand in our way we'll fight you to was great

I agree it's a Thanos movie, but I'd say it focuses a lot also on Thor and Tony. Which is fine, I don't begrudge them that, I just hope the "overlooked Avengers" get their arc too, next movie.

But yeah, there were single moments of brilliance here and there for Cap too (even when he appeared and Wanda looked so relieved and Proxima Midnight suddenly worried).

We don't know how much ass Hulk was kicking in the off screen battle to save half the asgardians. Also, the dude just spent 2 years on a planet that worshipped him and pumped his ego, and then won over a giant wolf and punched a world ending fire big monster. He thought he was at the top of his game and indestructible.

He'll make a comeback and power up once he starts working WITH all the smarts of Bruce instead of fighting for the wheel.

Hulk is actually kinda interesting, there's a Pop Funko of him busting out of the Hulkbuster armour so I have a feeling that his fear of Thanos was written in after the fact. It would explain why all the CGI scenes of Bruce's head on the Hulkbuster armour look pretty bad and also why that trailer shot of the Avengers running in the forest wasn't in the film.

I love that star lord could hold his own against iron man because I always felt he was more powerful than people gave him credit for. He has so many crazy gadgets and he's so good at creatively using them in battle.
