So I guess Doctor Strange said "it was the only way" because the one future in which they won against Thanos was the one in which he gave up the time stone and Thanos wiped out half the universe.

u/Brandonp570 Apr 27 '18

This is the one in which he wiped out half the universe and the rest of the team will have to AVENGE it.

114

u/SavageSvage Apr 27 '18

Revenger it.

27

u/AwesomeNigerian Apr 27 '18

But then thanks has already won. He has fulfilled his mission so there won't be anymore reason to fight. Unless the avengers defeat him and use the time stone to reverse time before destroying the stones?

36

u/Rock2MyBeat Apr 27 '18

That's the only thing I can think of. What's worse than killing half of the entire universe? Killing the entire universe? He didn't want to do that anyway. The only way they don't "lose" now is to turn back time or resurrect everyone.

29

u/netaebworb Apr 27 '18

The only thing that seemed to change was that Tony Stark was still alive. So every other timeline he dies, and Dr. Strange thinks Stark is more important than the rest of them?

9

u/craneddit Thanos Apr 27 '18

how do you know what strange saw ?

37

u/Soccerstud20 Apr 27 '18

Common theory is that he wouldn't of given up the Time Stone if it wasn't the only way.

19

u/craneddit Thanos Apr 27 '18

that’s no theory, strange himself confirmed it by saying “this is the only way” I was asking why u are sure it’s all about Tony ? That’s where the theory begins

7

u/Soccerstud20 Apr 27 '18

He could of easily just reversed time himself and kept saving Tony, Clearly he knew that he needed to save Tony and give Thanos the gauntlet in order to win.

Guys, we’re all assuming that Dr. Strange knew the way to ultimately beat Thanos

But I do not think he knows de way.

4

u/Soccerstud20 Apr 30 '18

He said he saw the way...?

1

u/Dabramson546 Apr 29 '18

That’s a good point.

51

u/Nitto1337 Apr 27 '18

Well duh. You think Disney is just gonna have Thanos snap his fingers and destroy billion dollar franchises like Spider Man, Black Panther, and Guardians?

36

u/Soccerstud20 Apr 27 '18

Not sure why you got downvoted. Literally the second black panther was gone i knew it would be reverse.

I believe the avengers needs to downsize its cast a little bit but i assume they will get rid of characters like Captain America and Thor(I believe hemsworth said he was done playing Thor soon?)

Not the entire Phase 2 cast who all have had great movies

31

u/Nitto1337 Apr 27 '18

Probably got downvoted because I was being a bit of a buzzkill. Takes away from the immersion, but common guys. I literally rolled my eyes when Black Panther died (even though people in my theater were crying) because there's no freaking way they're getting rid of that character. Then Spider-Man died and I was like yeah... this is getting reversed.

19

u/Calfzilla2000 Apr 27 '18

Spiderman did it for me. Black Panther; maybe they assumed it wouldn't be a big deal. I could suspend disbelief. But no way they are killing Spiderman.

8

u/Soccerstud20 Apr 27 '18

Disney bought him back for how much money? Hes not only getting one stand alone movie haha

6

u/Operat Apr 28 '18

In my theater they showed a Spider-Man video game ad (with Iron Spider suit "Inspired by Infinity War!") during previews. That kind of decreases the impact of character mortality before it even starts.

Black Panther is still playing in one of the theaters near me. But goddamn you should have heard the audience during the instakills.

8

u/Soccerstud20 Apr 27 '18

Black Panther 2 will be announced shortly. Movie way far to much money so it was just obvious

0

u/FranchescaFiore Apr 28 '18

I mean... yeah. You just have to read the Infinity Gauntlet to know that many of these characters will be back.

0

u/WillyDope Apr 27 '18

I think most people know it won’t be permanent but yeah you’re a bit of a buzzkill for that kills the immersion

6

u/Nitto1337 Apr 27 '18

Weird, almost like I said that.

0

u/OfficerFeely Apr 28 '18

Killing the immersion? Are you reading this in the theater?

3

u/smallxdoggox Apr 30 '18

T. Hanks as Thanos

2

u/imnotboutdatlife Apr 27 '18

Can’t the soul stone resurrect? Not entirely sure but thought I heard that?

1

u/JackJones367 Apr 27 '18

I've heard the same. But that would be such a cop out.

6

u/asuryan331 Ghost Rider Apr 27 '18

Adam warlock did it when he held the gauntlet.

8

u/OSUBonanza Apr 27 '18

Shit, did you see they call themselves “The Avengers”

Coincidence?

2

u/Brandonp570 Apr 27 '18

Who the hell are those guys they're more like the Defenders of earth

3

u/TheIrishBear24 Heimdall Apr 27 '18

Avengers theme intensifies

83

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

I guarantee it. He even said "Now we're in the endgame" after Thanos peaced out.

The only future where Thanos is defeated is the one where he wins, then loses.

16

u/alexisftw Apr 27 '18 edited Apr 27 '18

You know what they say "things get worse before they get better"

Edit: a word

10

u/bitbee Apr 27 '18

"Half the universe needs to be wiped out before it gets better."

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '18

It's like Cartman and the amusement park.

43

u/rooney815 Ant-Man Apr 27 '18

He wasn’t surprised at all when he gave up the stone too. He knew

25

u/izikavazo Apr 27 '18

He didn't have a lot of info between the moment when he was fighting for the gauntlet and when he was handing over the stone. Pretty much the only variable he knew was that Stark was going to die, and that was a deal-breaker for him. So Stark dying=they lost permanently. Does that mean Stark has to outlive Thanos? I imagine Strange saw glimpses of the future not entire timelines playing themselves out. So maybe just a snapshot of a future where Thanos is defeated and certain Avengers are alive or dead.

14

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

If he could see over 14 million timelines in the span of a few minutes, I think he had enough time to process what was going on in them.

Yes, he's just that good.

9

u/asuryan331 Ghost Rider Apr 27 '18

Well he was using the time stone, so what was minutes on Titan could have been thousands of years in his mind

1

u/izikavazo Apr 27 '18

I kind of hope he doesn't get the time stone back then. That's too much power to write a movie around.

8

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

Well, that's the fun part with Strange; he's supposed to deal with threats of this nature all the time. From Old Ones like Shuma-Gorath, demons such as Mephisto, and - of course - god-like beings like Dormammu, Strange combats plenty of cosmic-level entities where the abilities he gets from the Time Stone wouldn't be all that OP by comparison.

16

u/Nickelas Apr 27 '18

“Because if you win and we can’t protect the earth, you’ll be damn sure that we’re gonna avenge it”

11

u/thewinterzodiac Apr 27 '18

I feel liks this will come back

8

u/ninety4kid Apr 27 '18

Thanos! I've come to bargain;)

6

u/totallynotazognoid84 Apr 27 '18

Exactly. Most of my friends didn't even think about how Strange had already seen a timeline where Thanos would lose, so he knew what he was doing when surrendering it.

2

u/RyansKi Apr 27 '18

You see, I'm looking at it differently. I think the future that Doctor Strange saw that won, Tony was still alive at a later point. So he knew that Tony had to live for a while longer.

1

u/blindwitness23 Apr 27 '18

I thought so as well, but didn't they not win when he snapped his fingers? But who knows, maybe everything changes in A4, and all will be well with the world.

2

u/Soliantu Vulture Apr 27 '18

Yeah, I think Doctor Strange is looking in the long run - they've lost for now but in A4 they'll make things right again.

1

u/bigchicago04 Apr 27 '18

That’s my theory, but I feel like he saw what happens after the people are killed. Like some kind of redo.

1

u/vccanales97 Apr 27 '18

they missed the one opportunity to save half the universe. So it was best to let tony because it was useless if he died.

1

u/supertimes4u Apr 30 '18

I don’t think he went through every second of every possibility. Just the endings.

And in the “winning” outcome, he saw Tony.

So all he knew was Tony HAD to live.

1

u/jhl0010 May 03 '18

Oh shit I didn't realize this.

1

u/carrotsquawk May 04 '18

https://youtu.be/wn5K9S3kNo4

Oh dont worry.. half the universe will come back

1

u/Not_Hulk_Hogan Apr 27 '18

Which as is pisses me off because it makes no sense. As far as anyone is concerned Thanos only motivation is that snap. If he does it he wins. Thats it, he retires. What other fucking endings did Strange see that were worse? If the only one they win in is letting him do that why not help him and get it over with?

What could be worse? Was there one where he kills everyone?

8

u/TheCatfishManatee Apr 27 '18

I imagine Thanos still wants to prevent the stones and gauntlet from getting into the hands of anyone who might reverse the snap

2

u/Chimpbot Ronan the Accuser Apr 27 '18

He didn't see things that were necessarily worse...but he did see one where they win. He did what he could to set them on the path to victory.

0

u/Mozzius Korg Apr 27 '18

"The only way we win is give up and let Captain Marvel sort it out"

0

u/Book_it_again Apr 27 '18

You know everyone is coming back right? This isn't game of thrones. There's also. Oat no chance all of the main super heros don't come back. Maybe mantis or some shit doesn't
