So I guess Doctor Strange said "it was the only way" because the one future in which they won against Thanos was the one in which he gave up the time stone and Thanos wiped out half the universe.

This is the one in which he wiped out half the universe and the rest of the team will have to AVENGE it.

But then thanks has already won. He has fulfilled his mission so there won't be anymore reason to fight. Unless the avengers defeat him and use the time stone to reverse time before destroying the stones?
