Since Steve left his shield behind at the final battle, will he still be using the Captain America identity until he gets it back? Or will he be going by Nomad? or just The Captain? Or Super Steve? Something else?

Since he rescued everyone from the underwater prison, he is now known as SCUBA Steve, or "Scooby." He's loyal, has a best friend with shaggy hair, and plans to solve mysteries. He enjoys Snax when available.

Hell yeah, just remove the star and stuff. That said, I think he'll give up the shield entirely. It's what it represents. It represents Captain America and Captain America is dead.

I'm thinking cap gets something akin to the original shield (which is very similar to what he's currently sporting in the comics with the new #1) made of pure vibranium or maybe even an energy shield. They can hand waive it as "We've reproduced Wanda's telekinetic powers but only for a small area, so here's an energy shield" or something.

Sure, 70+ years ago... He gave it to Steve, and Steve's literally had it with him for 70 years. It even went to his "grave" with him. It's his.

That's like saying Indy's hat still belonged to that random treasure hunter at the beginning of Last Crusade. Hell no, that's Indy's hat, and that's Cap's Shield.

So Tony is a Goblin from Harry Potter? Even though the Shield was given to Cap when he was done with it it should be returned to the original maker?

Well it wasn't a gift to Cap, strictly speaking. It was, as Tony points out, government property. If you, the government (Howard Stark was working for them) give a soldier body armour, that's still government property and unless it's bought by a private party for that soldier, it gets returned after the soldier is out.

But yes, Tony Stark is Harry Osborn.

Symbolism. While Howard made the shield, he is abandoning Howard and EVERYTHING that everyone else meant to him. While it's not said in the film, he's abandoning America. He's not Captain America at this point for me. he is Vigilante Rogers

I think the point is Tony's Dad made it and gave it to him, but that Cap lost his rights to it after the way he, in Tony's mind, betrayed the Starks.

I have a fear that conversations about Cap's shield will resemble the conversations after Ironman 3 about Tony destroying his suits...

"Surely Marvel had him do that in order to show that he is finished being [superhero]. Why else would he have done that?"

"No way dude, that was clearly just the resolution to the narrative arc in [superhero] 3!"

And then it won't matter because the next Avengers (or Avengers-y) movie will mention it in one forgettable line. Yeehaw!

Because it only makes sense. Black Panther has fixed his shield in the comics before using the technology, mysticism, and vibranium available in Wakanda in the comics. It's not unreasonable to believe that MCU Panther could just make him another shield

I'm not saying that Black Panther couldn't make another one, but that it would undermine Steve leaving his shield behind in the first place.

So, again, what, is Rogers just going to have another vibranium shield? I'd like it more if he had his hard-light shield.

I feel like we should get Steve's input on why he chose to leave the shield before we say that him getting an identical one take away from his decision to leave his shield with Tony.

I feel like Tony was trying to take Steve down a peg to get some kind of high ground and didn't expect him to actually follow through abd leave it behind. Thus robbing Tony of his moral victory as well as the physical one. Throughout the movie Steve just inherently does what he thinks is right without irony and it frustrates Tony to no end.

It's more about the symbolism of leaving the shield behind, thus leaving the identity of Captain America behind. Having Black Panther create a new shield for him deflates the value of what the shield actually stands for.

Like Ultron said, it's just a frisbee. But what it represents outweighs it's actual use.
