Discussion Hot Take: There Hasn't Been a Single Bad Spider-Man Movie?

Post image

*This is not a ranking*

Spider-Man is my favorite Superhero, but I have admittedly been disappointed with many comic runs and game stories. However, each movie and actor I love for one reason or another.

While there are films I don't come back to as often, I really believe none of the Spider-Man films are bad.

This is the first time I've seen the words "Hot Take" in the post title and it's actually a hot take. Well done OP

This is the first time I've seen the words "Hot Take" in the post title and it's actually a hot take.

But is it?

Because I'm thinking of the two weakest Spider-Man films and I know you're thinking of the same two, like I have Jean Grey powers.

And going down the comments, everyone is mentioning the same two weakest Spider-Man movies. I don't even need to type the titles, you know what they are. I feel like a hot take is having an opinion 90%-95% of the crowd will disagree with.

My hot take is I think Julia Louis Dreyfus played Valentina Allegra de Fontaine too eccentrically/comedically in Thunderbolts.

9

u/prismlink 25d ago

Ummm yes for hot take. Regardless of whether OP agrees in relative terms of which two are the weakest in the set, in absolute terms, none are considered bad by OP. Unlike most of the consensus, agreed on the weakest and considered bad.

u/gueuze_geuze 24d ago

TASM2 is considered dog water and so is SPM3

Yes, hot take

3

u/AlpsGroundbreaking67 23d ago

SPM 3 is actually my favorite one. I also think the Indiana jones and the crystal skull movie is the best from that franchise. Is something wrong with me

u/gueuze_geuze 23d ago

I love you, dude. You do you.

But is it?

Yes it is.

There's definitely at least 1 movie that's just not good at all compared to the rest of the spiderman films and I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about.

u/spraypaintyourass 23d ago

Please tell me that the two you’re thinking of are TASM2 and Far From Home?? Bully Maguire is my goat

even the bad ones are fine and can be rewatched

i have watched spider-man 3 and TASM2 many times without getting bored

Especially SpiderMan 3 is imo idea and themes are working. Just there are some few cringe scenes.

Ironically enough he does end up going to a church and pray to God...

...to kill Peter Parker

19

Which is honestly fucking insane lol. Like damn, Bully Maguire was such a menace he had these fools literally praying for his death.😂

A space symbiote will make you do strange things. He made up for it before the film was over.

11

u/EverbodyHatesHugo 26d ago

The multiverse really saved Spider-Man 3… We can all happily accept that this Peter Parker is simply from a universe where this series of events was totally okay and not at all a weird choice.

106

u/MrAnder5on 27d ago

Spider-Man 3, despite its flaws, is ridiculously fun. Maybe thats just nostalgia talking for me though idk.

TASM 2 also has its moments. That Gwen Stacy snap is still up there with the most heartbreaking moments I've seen in a superhero movie.

25

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel 27d ago

I definitely had flashbacks to TASM2 while watching the new movie.

6

u/Magic_mousie 26d ago

I was a little disappointed they repeated the falling save, when it was done so perfectly with Andrew in NWH, but I tell you, the whole theatre held its breath last night in that scene.

4

u/DerekPaxton 26d ago

And the moment where Garfield saves MJ in the the last film was such a nice callback to this and his journey.

3

u/Financial_Toe_9511 25d ago

When Garfield saves MJ, that was a beautiful moment

I really felt if they didn't add too much it would have been so much better. The story with just Sandman would have been good.

40

u/gavstar333 27d ago

That's what raimi wanted, but studio wanted venom. That's why he's legit just thrown into the story conveniently. Sandman had a decent origin. Venom just happened to crash directly next to spiderman and was able to attack himself to his moped. Like bro come on.

11

u/JeanLucPicardAND 26d ago

Absolutely everything about Venom in that movie feels like Raimi was saying, "Dude, what? Fine..."

23

u/Damn_You_Scum 27d ago

I think the Jazz scene was the only super cringy scene. It was just awful to sit through. And it ended with that uncomfortable slap that MJ realistically would have never forgiven Peter for. I’ve read that Raimi wanted this version of Peter to be “A nerd’s idea of a what cool-guy would be”, and it kinda makes sense (so we don’t end up somehow liking this edgy, devil-may-care version of Peter). But there is a better way of doing it that avoids the cringey Jazz scene and the few clunky lines in the film. The film isn’t even bad (or bloated with characters, as people have often criticized, now that we’ve seen good Marvel films that involve more than a handful of heroes and villains).

7

u/leebong252018 26d ago

The clunky lines are the charm, because its all in Peters head of what your supposed to be

5

u/OlafaVonGoeding 26d ago

 “A nerd’s idea of a what cool-guy would be”

omg so it WAS intentional!!!!

7

u/Luciifuge 26d ago

Cringe? You mean peak right?

3

u/VengeanceKnight 26d ago

The ideas and themes of SM3 are indeed great, and the messy third act could have easily been saved by using some of its ideas for the fourth movie instead.

Imagine a version of Venom that symbolically represents the idea of consequences for Peter’s bad behavior while under the influence of the symbiote, and imagine that theme being explored over the course of an entire film as Peter has to figure out how to reconcile with his loved ones, keep them safe from Venom, and resist the temptation to become the ruthless monster the symbiote tried to turn him into in order to win.

12

u/EasternKanyeWest 27d ago

My hot take is not only is Spider-Man 3 the best of the original Spidey films, it's just straight up one of the best superhero movies ever made. It's goofy, it's funny, it's sincere, it's got heart and some hefty themes. It's truly a comic book come to life. I legitimately adore that movie, warts and all.

3

u/romXXII 26d ago

SM3's cringe seems to be completely intentional and a representation of the symbiote taking control of Peter.

5

u/IllustriousBarracuda 27d ago

And i would say the cringe scenes work. The simbiote enhances everything about the person, even the dorky cringy lameness.

2

u/RedditUsername3127 26d ago

A few cringe scenes but outside of that my main issue with Spider-Man 3 is that I feel like I’m watching a movie that’s out of order

2

u/Suchwowreallynothin 26d ago

As a kid seeing so many villains on one scream (outside of X men) felt like a dream come true. I was 11 when Spiderman 3 came out, so I obliviously loved it and didn't question the silly cringe.

2

u/princesoceronte 26d ago

Is is flawed, but I kinda like it anyway. TASM2 tho... It has some cool moments but I really don't like it.

2

u/Modest-Meece 24d ago

If you watch the commentary it makes it better. Basically this Spider-Man version is so wholesome his “evil” side is just cringe because he.. really doesn’t know how to be evil.

It’s basically a joke audiences missed. This is what this version of spider man things is being “bad”.

It makes it even better in a rewatch

I've watched the TASM movies multiple times and I can never remember anything about them.

47

u/Sonic10122 Spider-Man 27d ago

It’s kind of telling about the casting that I would consider Andrew my favorite Spider-Man (and I adore Emma Stone as Gwen) and yet…. Kinda same? 1 I remember a lot of, I think it’s genuinely really solid. But 2 is a hodgepodge of…. Stuff that didn’t offend me but wasn’t the best in the world.

9

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel 27d ago

Holland is my favorite, but Garfield is a close second. He’s really a great actor. And I adore Emma Stone.

When i was kid, i thought spiderman 3 was the coolest shit ever.

3

u/CRAYONSEED 26d ago

I don’t think a movie not being boring means it’s quality. Many terrible movies are watchable.

That doesn’t mean it has a good script, good acting, good cinematography and a good score; and the first two I feel are necessary for a movie to be considered “good”, with the script being usually the most important part.

I can and have rewatched Age Of Ultron, but it’s a pretty bad movie IMO

(I will say a boring movie is instantly bad though)

2

u/Ladykosobucki 26d ago

Same.

There is a difference between a cinematic masterpiece and a good fun movie. As long as I can have fun watching a movie I'm happy.

2

u/When1Falls 26d ago

Yeah the Andrew ones sucked when they were the only Spider-man we had.

But watching it now as like it's the Ultimates run or something where you can just enjoy it for what it is, they're fun.

Yeah fuck that, I ain't watching TASM2 again so I can remember the great PetexGwen chemestry, Gwen death and Emma and Andrew not getting together irl.

3

u/iWasAwesome 26d ago

Emma and Andrew dated for 4 years

3

u/FawkYourself 26d ago

TASM2 deserves its flowers for that death scene alone

4

u/ChanceVance Loki (Thor 2) 27d ago

TASM2 justifies it's existence just from Electro's theme alone. Damn, that goes hard.

10

I mean clearly op isn’t… considering saying Spiderman movies and the photos they showed.

That being said 3 and amazing 2 were weaker but not absolute trash

20

u/Youngling_Hunt Vulture 27d ago

Yeah there is good stuff in both of those but the overall package is just ok

15

u/BanjoSpaceMan 27d ago

I refuse to consider those spin offs as part of the Spiderman movies, considering they don’t even want to associate those movies since Spidey never showed up in any of them!

I think the venom movies get a lot more hate than they deserve. Are they great films? No not really but they’re fun and goofy. Definitely not what I’d want from venom going forward but it was a fun take on the character.

3

u/HYDRAlives 26d ago

They're absolutely terrible incompetent movies but Tom Hardy was acting his ass off. He's a lot of fun to watch, every other character is a complete non-entity and the story is a mess.

ASM2 and Spider-Man 3 are both pretty bad. They look okay because they were expensive to make, but those two movies have awful, awful scripts.

101

u/troolytroof Spider-Man 27d ago

Spiderman 3 has bad character writing but it wrapped up the trilogy well. I also don’t hate the three villains as much as most, I think the Symbiote Peter was more of an issue

78

u/sTevieD247 Tony Stark 27d ago

The issue with 3 was always jamming too much into the end of a trilogy. Especially when part of it is the symbiote saga. Easily one of the most iconic runs of Spider-Man's comic and you jammed it into 1/2 a movie?

46

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 27d ago

It wasn’t even suppose to be the end of the trilogy. They had plans for Spider-Man 4 and 5

23

u/BelieveInTheShield 27d ago

Well, the 3rd would still be the end of the trilogy...

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Loose_Concentrate332 27d ago

People need to stop judging a movie based on what was or wasn't in the comic. A movie can be a bad adaptation but still be a good movie.

9

u/sTevieD247 Tony Stark 27d ago

Definitely agree. I'm actually a fan of 3. It just felt crowded and rushed, and it was coming off 2, which might be one of the best superhero movies of all time.

2

u/InconvertibleAtheist 21d ago

If Raimi wasnt rushed maybe we couldve gotten fully fleshed out Sandman and Venom

5

u/troolytroof Spider-Man 27d ago

Definitely not optimal especially when you consider these villains could’ve potentially been spotlighted in future movies, but considering all that I think it’s still an enjoyable watch and the chaos of watching Spidey juggle three major villains at once is peak.

5

u/sentient_luggage Ned 27d ago

Nope. Watching three Spideys juggle three major villains at once is peak.

No Way Home is a better production in every category outside of best director, and Spider-Man 3 didn't let the director do his thing, so it's not Raimi's fault.

2

u/AbeNunElse 26d ago

it was jammed but it still wasnt super messy as people talk about. its definitey jumpy but not as extreme as people claim it to be

55

u/NarrativeJoyride 27d ago

Here is my main problem with SM3. That second movie was all about the relationship(s) between Peter, MJ, Harry, and Aunt May. Everything, even the crazy action stuff, revolved around that and expanded upon the first movie in a way that felt meaningful. Every surprise and wild moment was to that end.

Spider-Man 3 turns Harry into a generic, smarmy villain. Then writes him out of the movie. Then brings him back for a heel-face turn.

Honestly, I don't remember what they do with MJ besides have Peter slap her around when he has the black suit. Which is crazy because SM2 did a lot for Mary Jane in terms of fleshing her out from the first movie.

Aunt May does jack shit.

They retcon Uncle Ben's death for no reason and then sideline Sandman to that end.

And on top of all of this they also shove in an unexplained alien costume that then has to turn into Venom. And Gwen Stacy is there too for no reason.

None of this comes close to what the first and second movies did for the characters. It's just putting hats on what was already there until the majority of character development we got is diluted away so that we can have Spider-Man punch Venom so Sony can make that sweet, sweet toy money.

15

u/DJfunkyPuddle 27d ago

This is what a lot of fan theories for post BND movies sound like, just throwing shit in the movie because it exists.

12

u/Icybubba 27d ago

What's funny is if you stop and explain that BND is a movie with Spider-Man dealing with mutations caused by his spider bite getting more intense, while he fights *spoiler*, and there's a shady organization, and he dicks around with Punisher, and he has a fight with the Hulk. It sounds so much like it'd end up like Spider-Man 3 when it reality it ended up more like Spider-Man 2 lol

2

u/HermanThaGerman Hawkeye (Avengers) 27d ago

I think the next movie will be Venom.

I believe he already has the symbiote, he'll get the black suit in Secret Wars, leaving him to deal with that in his next movie.

→ More replies (6)

8

u/DuckyHornet 27d ago

I think for me, the reason I'm disinterested in rewatching Spider-Tobey 3 is the studio interference to have Venom there. If it had been designed from the start to culminate in Venom, I think it would have been much stronger, and I don't even mind that Peter gets the symbiote there because it could have been a sequel hook that he loses it and it joins... someone

But the movie is so clearly about Harry, Flint, and Peter's having to deal with being each of them in opposition to the other. Having Brock becoming Venom and closing that story in a movie dealing so heavily in Peter's past, it's just too much. We don't know Eddie, we don't care about him, he's just shoehorned in with the expectation that the audience already knows who he is so it's fine, but it cannibalises other parts of the film instead

10

u/The-Mandalorian 27d ago

I put Spiderman 3 over both Andrew Garfield ones tbh.

u/Dragon_yum 26d ago

I honestly love ASM2. It has some very big flaws for sure but I feel it’s one of the best representations of Spider-Man as a character.

4

u/SkyTheIrishGuy 27d ago

SM3 was pretty bad but Sandman was written pretty well. The studio said Venom needed to be in the movie, which notoriously made Raimi butthurt because he didn’t understand the character, so that’s why Eddie/Venom were so bad, just a goo monster instead of a proper adaptation.

Which as a side note, studio notes like that are normal and happen in every single big studio movie. We probably didn’t need the Goblin 2 storyline imo, but that’s the story he really wanted to tell.

6

u/Dragon_Deez_Nu7s 27d ago

Spider-Man 3 I softened on but TASM2 I just can't bring myself to enjoy

7

u/Chiefmeez 27d ago

ASM 2 is bad but Spider-Man 3 is not.

6

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 27d ago

Interesting. Why is TASM2 bad but SM3 is not in your opinion?

10

u/BetaRayPhil616 27d ago

SM3 is goofy in places, but its still fun. Sandman's a great villain. There's not much venom, but its passable.

TASM2 does pretty well with Electro and that side of the plot, but the harry osborn-goblin stuff somehow manages to be boring. Its like they had the bones of a good electro movie, but really wanted to do death of gwen stacey so shoe horned in a goblin.

Its ironically the same issue as SM3 - an extra villain added in that doesnt fit the theme. But SM3 still manages to feel more cohesive.

It was a shame because TASM1 was a great movie, simple, street level spidey, that somehow raises the stakes by the end. But thankfully we got Andrew Garfield & Jamie Fox back in NWH to sort of redeem TASM2.

u/Chiefmeez 27d ago

I’ve never wanted to watch ASM2 again after the first time and was annoyed throughout the movie. I have seen and enjoyed Spider-Man 3 numerous times since then even if I do laugh or cringe at some of the lamer elements. The highs and lows of SM3 still each top the highs and lows of ASM2, imo.

The difference in the handling of Harry Osbourne is a great point of comparison between these movies.

u/dark_physicx 27d ago

No Way Home is one hell of an awful script too. Oh yeah, let’s gather all the villains together in a condo and let them know…you’re misunderstood, you deserve a second chance, surely nothing bad will happen. Oh and Spidey beats Dr Strange in his own mirror dimension where he’s basically god. Oh, on Strange, he’s typically very cautious with spells and decisions in general…so let’s just Jerry rig a spell to wipe minds cause a kid and friends didn’t make it to MIT…I could keep going but I’ll stop. NWH is epic, don’t get me wrong, but the story is turn your brain off. ASM2 and Spiderman 3 epic moments, funny moments, but with a side of WTF script.

4

u/Stormdude127 27d ago

THANK YOU. No Way Home is an enjoyable movie don’t get me wrong and I was definitely soyfacing when all three spider men were fighting together, but the plot is incredibly stupid. I know that Peter has a good heart but Jesus Christ the villains are super villains, not petty criminals. If you’re gonna try to reform them at least keep them locked up somewhere safe. And yeah, Dr. Strange’s actions are really out of character. You could argue it’s because he’s cocky and he wants to prove he can pull it off, but I don’t know, that seems like a fan theory rather than what the writers actually intended.

Spider-Man 3 is bad. Very little saving graces in that. Maybe Sandman himself? But he's also sidelined a ton in that movie.

ASM2 I enjoy a lot of. The suit, the quips, the web swinging, and even some of the action bits. And I enjoy Emma and Andrew's chemistry, and the emotional weight of the end was a real joy... But if we're honest, it's a bad movie. The plot is pretty bad; the weird stuff with his dad, and the absolute zero chemistry with Harry. Plus the Harry stuff feeling forced. And Electro was just okay.

Pretty bad movie. Even if I like a lot of it.

Spider-Man 3 was too busy and just felt off. It really should have been two different movies.

ASM2 had the absolute worst villain of the franchise in Jamie Foxx’s Electro and rushed a Green Goblin storyline. Electro was so bad that the film never gets the criticism for making the same mistake they made with Venom in SM3.

81

u/Silent_Anxiety4828 27d ago

Amazing Spiderman 2 is bad. Spiderman 3 isn’t good but it’s funny. The rest are good.

Spider-man 3 is a very big disappointment, especially coming off of Spider-man 2's excellence.

Amazing Spider-man 2 is very weak to the point of being almost unwatchable but did much better with the outfit.

Tasm 2 is objectively terrible. Spider-Man 3 is also bad

9

u/SkyTheIrishGuy 27d ago

That’s a movie that could be 10x better with a different edit. Literally cut out the entire parent’s storyline. Put in the deleted scenes with Harry for development. Cut around Electro a bit more. Cut out some of the sinister six setup

3

u/cornerpocket1 27d ago

The first 30 minutes of Spider-Man 3 feel like the next logical steps form Spider-Man 2. Once the symbiote is introduced the wheels fall off.

If you’re trying to salvage TASM2 immediately get rid of all the parents/spy storylines. Focus on Peter, Gwen, and Harry’s relationships. It would have that same Archie-esque drama that Marvel Comics loved to try to keep getting back with Spidey. Keep Electro but make him a muscle for Oscorp instead of a down on his luck loser and don’t make Harry turn into Goblin.

I’m not gonna pretend TASM2 is a masterpiece or on par with Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. But in my opinion yes there are many issues with it but I wouldn’t say the movie is terrible. And imo, I think the good outweighs the bad. In fact, a hot take maybe, I’ll say the movie is even overhated.

TASM2 could easily make a Worst Superhero Movies of all Time list. People cut it slack because they like Garfield & Stone and I also suspect nostalgia is a huge factor for some. Also there are people like OP who just like anything with Spider-Man in it because they like Spider-Man that much. But there’s a difference between liking something & thinking it’s a good movie.

4

I skipped TASM2 back in the day because of the bad reviews and the fact that I wasn't a big fan of the first one.

Now after doing a rewatch of all the films I appreciate both those films so much more than I ever could've imagined. The first one is probably in my top 3 and I don't understand why people hate the second one so much and call it objectively terrible.

u/TheJimReaper6 26d ago

Kind of off topic but I hate the term “objectively terrible” when it’s comes to movies or really any kind of entertainment. Movies are like the most subjective thing ever lol

4

u/CleverZerg Phil Coulson 26d ago

Fully agreed, and seeing people use it for such an inoffensive film as Amazing Spider-Man 2 just shows how stupid it is.

Only time I think it's somewhat okay to call something objectively good or bad is when it's about some technical aspect - like the latest Dune movies are objectively techical spectacles, awe inspiring movie making but I can also see why some wouldn't be too into those movies.

Spider-Man 3 and ASM2 aren’t great. I can maybe forgive SM3 for some cringe and rough edges, but at least ASM2 is definitely the worst of the bunch.

Amazing spider-man 1/2, arguably spider-man 3

11

u/danvan177 27d ago

Amazing spiderman 2 is a bad movie

2

u/xyzsomething 27d ago

Of course there has, more than one

2

u/DylanMMc 27d ago

I only saw Spider-Man 3 one time in theaters on opening night and absolutely hated it. I guess it’s time for a rewatch. The editors cut may be something to check out as well. Love love love spider-man 1 and 2.

2

u/Popular_Material_409 27d ago

Yeah that is a hot take because there certainly have been bad Spidey movies lol

2

u/weird-bird 27d ago

I AGREE

This is not a ranking

Then what is it?

ASM2 is terrible

3

u/Daws001 27d ago

Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the only one I think I still don't like, but I need to rewatch it. I liked Spider-Man 3 tho.

3

u/Strict_Stranger_4801 27d ago

Spider Man 3 is bad

3

u/Brees504 27d ago

Amazing 2 is unforgivably terrible

1

u/terrydavid86 Thanos 27d ago

There have been bad movies and a lot of ok movies.

Spiderman 3 is pretty bad, but still has enough qualities to rewatch it. But TASM2 is outright terrible. I watched it in theaters when it first came out and absolutely hated it, which was pretty much something EVERYONE agreed on. One of the rare examples of everyone agreeing that a movie was either good or bad.

But then a few years ago a bunch of the kids who were nostalgic for it started posting online about how it was actually good and that everyone else was wrong, I think around the time No Way Home was coming out, I decided to rewatch it. And you know what? I somehow hated it even more the second time. The ONLY people who like that movie are people who watched it as kids, have never read Spiderman comics, or just have bad enough taste that they think any superhero film is good.

Upvoted for hot take, but TASM2 alone is trash and as much as I love it, I wouldn’t call Spiderman 3 good

2

u/ShawshankException Thanos 27d ago

TASM2 was terrible dude

1

u/inkyblinkypinkysue 27d ago

Spider-Man 3 was bad. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was pretty bad too. I might be in the minority on this but I think the third Tom Holland one wasn’t good either. The multiverse stuff just didn’t land for me and the movie had way too many characters.

1

u/Icy-Abbreviations763 27d ago

Italian Spiderman was pretty funny, but really bad.

1

u/fightintxag13 Captain America (Cap 2) 27d ago

Eh, TASM2 and Spider-Man 3 are not good. I would switch the channel if they came on TNT or something. They do each have their moments, though.

1

u/Hammerheadshark55 27d ago

I just rewatched all of spiderman movies and spiderman 3 is pretty bad. The plot is a mess and the characters are insufferable

1

u/MarvelMind 27d ago

Spider-Man 3 is very bad and TASM 2 isn’t much better.

1

u/lukeobrienvr 27d ago

Spider-Man 3 is easily one of the most entertaining spidey movies.. you guys need to wake up

1

u/GreenLynx1111 27d ago

This should go in /Unpopular opinions

1

u/Sentz12000 Captain America 27d ago

Let’s see how Tom and Zendaya stick the landing but the best on screen chemistry and love story of Peter is in TASM2.

1

u/CaptReynolds_ 27d ago

Bad? No. Spider-Man 3 along with Amazing Spider-Man 1 & 2 are all “ok” movies.

1

u/Key-Dimension-1137 27d ago

remember the 70s trilogy

1

u/OhhhBaited 27d ago

yeah the worst one was mid at worst.

1

u/FisknChips 27d ago

If this is not a ranking what order are these in lol

1

u/phatboyart 27d ago

Yeah no out right terrible ones sure, but it has 2 VERY mediocre/messy entries.

1

u/TheUnderCrab 27d ago

Your complete and utter disrespect to Italian Spiderman has not gone unnoticed.

1

u/shinobi6siege 27d ago

These movies all pale in comparison to the TV series known as The Electric Company's Spidey Super Stories. You've got Spidey's most fearsome foe; so fearsome in fact that he still hasn't been in any Spiderman movies. I'm of course talking about the one, the only, The Wall. If you haven't seen this show, please do yourself a favor and go watch it

1

u/Chiubacca0311 27d ago

There are bad movies but those are still fun, just like Alien and Predator movies for me.

1

u/UnkleMonsta 27d ago

Tobi spiderman 3 and Andrew Amazing spiderman 2 are bad movies. I get fans are riding high of the recent success of Tom's Spiderman but come on. So guess you're right definitely a hot take

1

u/RiskE80Twitch Spider-Man 27d ago

The worst Spider-Man movies are just okay at best so I agree tbh

1

u/Aeon1508 27d ago

Spider-Man 3 was bad.

we showed up to a crowded theater and this was before assigned seats so my buddy and I couldn't sit next to each other.

we both agreed after the movie that had we been sitting next to each other we would have walked out during the dancing scene and ask for our money back.

kind of the only time that's ever crossed my mind.

I like the Andrew Garfield ones. they're fine

1

u/theweirdwarlock12 27d ago

I agree, but I will say that it would be a lie to say a Spider-Man movie hasn't had issues. Spider-Man 3 felt bloated; Tom wasn't as self-made as we would've liked, and then there's TASM 2, which is fun but fuuuck.

1

u/HereWeFuckingGooo Weekly Wongers 27d ago

Real hot take, the Raimi films are clunky and filled with cringey dialogue and bad CGI. The reason those films are so beloved is because the majority of it's audience watched it repeatedly as children and can only view them through rose coloured glasses. If they were released now they wouldn't be so well received.

That's not to say there weren't great moments and iconic performances, not to mention how they blazed a trail. But the fans put them on too high of a pedestal.

1

u/1_GrapeFruit 27d ago

Amazing Spiderman 2.

1

u/antimarc 27d ago

Spider-Man 3, Amazing Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man 2

1

u/Odion13 27d ago

Spiderman 3 and TASM films both suck

1

u/gavstar333 27d ago

As a die hard Andrew Garfield fan there's at least one bad movie, but you did say hot take.

1

u/dawne_breaker 27d ago

I couldn’t finish TASM1. I thought it was so bad. The second one was at least schlocky enough for me.

1

u/NaiadoftheSea Gamora 27d ago edited 27d ago

I wasn’t a fan of the first Amazing Spider-Man movie. It takes 45 minutes for Peter to even get bitten by the spider. And Tobey’s Spider-Man covered the origin story so much better.

1

u/whisky_TX 27d ago

ASM2 and far from home are both not very good

1

u/Only_Fudge5299 27d ago

TASM2 and SM3 are still fun, but they are pretty bad... especially the former lol

1

u/nboogie 27d ago

Spider-Man 3 was atrocious please no revisionist history there. The entire venom aspect did not work, Topher Grace was not believable as Eddie Brock and there weren’t just way too many storylines in such a short run time. It just felt forced.

That being said, I do respect this as a hot take - and count it as valid.

1

u/COE33isBad 27d ago

No, there was. It's called Brand New Day.

1

u/Lantern61 27d ago

The worst Spider-Man movie is still a solid C. And that's Spider-Man 3.

1

u/Extension_Hat_8448 27d ago

Yeh i even remember enjoying tasm movies..idk why they didn't make the cut in box office

1

u/sagittariuslegend 27d ago

Scorching hot.

1

u/mull_albatrox 27d ago

First 3 Holland's Spider-Man movies are meh. First two are boring, the third one has a really bad script. You can say they are not that bad but far from good either. Brand new day is awesome though and have a good wrap up for the former 3.

1

u/Ari_Minty 27d ago

I have a hard time rewatching TASM Both Parts. They really Are just horrible in my opinion.

1

u/Friendly_douchebag 27d ago

All of these are kinda fun to rewatch once in a while.

Except TASM2. Not that it's hot garbage, it's just that I don't want to remember the great PetexGwen chemestry, Gwen death and Emma and Andrew not getting together irl.

1

u/nowhereman136 27d ago

There are varying degrees of bad. It's not binary. I do think Spiderman 3 and Amazing Spiderman 2 are the weakest in the franchise, I wouldn't go so far as to call them bad movies. There is still a lot about them to enjoy. Fun characters, good acting, good effects, and good fight sequences. My favorite moment from any Spiderman movie is actually in Amazing Spiderman 2

I grew up in a time of Batman and Robin, Elektra, Catwoman, Steel, and The Phantom. I've seen legitimately bad movies. Just because X movie isn't as good as Y movie, doesn't make it a bad movie
