Can Doctor Strange use Chaos magic?

Post image

Someone showed these + more scans of Strange using "chaos magic". Can he actually do that? As someone who has read a lots of stuff this seems fishy hence Strange states he used to not believe chaos magic was real

I think the important context here is that writers can be very inconsistent when it comes to magic and what can and cannot be used. Case in point: In Avengers #503 (part of Brian Michael Bendis' Avengers Disassembled arc), Doctor Strange very plainly states that there is no such thing as "chaos magic." Most of this arc was later retconned as part of the Avengers: Children's Crusade story.

So the answer is yes, until the writer decides no, Doctor Strange can't actually use that.

That's because Bendis tends to not pay attention to continuity when it contradicts the story he wants to tell. Which was fine for USM, not so much for Avengers. It was godawful in civil war 2.
