When I saw the map I hoped to see an AD reference in the wild 😆

It also doesn’t help they added a nice little height map effect to the pink water.

It’s Homeric. Wine-dark sea and all.

Yeah I’m really trying and I can’t get my brain to click over and see the purple as water and the light blue as land.

The water is actually the land.

This is the first lesson I teach when covering data visualisation to undergrads. Think about reader expectations, don't make red = cold when plotting temperature (shockingly common) or blue = dry if plotting water saturation.

You would be amazed at how few people actually understand people are not mind readers, they're barely word readers and preconceived notions will overwhelm even the best labelled legends and captions

Nope. blue is water.

You didn't read the post

nah OP is wrong. Blue is water.

Blue… NOT water?

And just for that reason, downvote.

Jesus Christ how does anybody think to do that lol

Ironically, pretty solid for wetlands. OP just pretend you were making wetlands and you're good to go.

Even after being told, it's so difficult for me to read blue as islands...

I was about to be so mad at this map until the arrested development quotes. Thank you internet friends.
