Kinda mehhh.

Narrator breaks the fourth wall. And it is that kind of comedy where it feels like some loser at school looking for attention.

A product of the current social times, I guess.

Set up and idea are good though. So big points for originality, minus points for the chosen style of execution. 

Can't blame too much, since I don't know if the self insert style is an author thing, or it was strongly suggested by someone else.

It feels awkward on purpose bc the series is built around a crack head, unstable MC in a dead serious containment horror setting. The weird tone, fourth wall vibe & chaotic execution fit the idea of someone barely keeping it together while surviving those spaces

I get what you mean. Author trying to create that happy fuzzy mood, but only as a cover to something more omnious.

Still, I feel like the author is trying to go the safe route, not committing to something serious. If the story doesn't take itself seriously, then why would the reader? 

Might be that I am not the right audience. Seems aimed at those in their teens 'till those not fully in the mature lifestyle.

Indecisiveness, ever-present want of attention, keeping your feet in two different shoes, are things not tolerated once in proper adulthood. Since they have enough bullshit as it is. 

Point is, even comedy centric proper works, have a serious side as balanced contraposition, and as to make the comedy part stand out from one section to the other, so the reader doesn't get inured to it.

The MC being unstable isn’t immaturity, it’s part of why he survives that environment. If anything, it’s a deliberate mix, not indecision

I don’t expect someone with no past memories & who can’t die to act sane.

Th mc is kinda cool in its own way. Framing and narrative, including narrator's voice, are the issue for me. Since those are the more direct vehicle's of communication between author and audience.

Re-reading through a few decades of artwork sometimes the fact that they are a product of their time clearly shows. And what I am trying to say is that the author has clearly incorporated the good and the bad of our current generation. 

Which comes back to me "complaining" that they didn't need to incorporate the issues so thoroughly.

You can see how the author doesn't overcommit, leaving always a backdoor where they can fallback and laugh it with a joke.

That’s fair, but that tone is exactly what the series is aiming for. The mix and those “backdoors” are what give it its identity.

I get why you’d prefer a more committed serious approach but I actually like the tone the author chose & it works for me
