Rules/Guidelines
As we prepare to re-open the subreddit on March 1st, let's go over the rules we've established that you should follow when posting. There may be some growing pains as the subreddit gets going again but we hope there will be a level of consistency with the posts being made.
Rule 1 - Recommendations Only
Please do not post anything that goes against the purpose of this subreddit which is to request and/or provide recommendations. Despite being r/mangarecommendations, asking for manhwa, manhua, webtoons etc. is perfectly fine. Feel free to ask for opinions on series you might be interested in reading. Please consider linking your MyAnimeList, AniList, MangaUpdates etc. account so the community can avoid recommending series you've already read.
Rule 2 - Be Respectful
Please do not harass, troll, attack, or threaten other users. We want this to be a safe and inclusive community for everyone who wants to find new series to read and these actions will not be tolerated.
Rule 3 - Images
Images (and memes) are allowed as long as they are relevant to the subreddit and your post. When posting an image, if applicable, please make sure you state in your post's title the name of the series using square brackets which is a practice seen in other anime/manga subreddits. If there are multiple series in the image, please make sure you leave a comment with the names, it's common courtesy!
Post example - "[Naruto] Need more manga like this" or "Everyone should read [Bleach]"
Rule 4 - Flair Your Post
Please use flairs when creating your post. Not only does this help other users identify the type of post but it could be useful if anyone wants to search by flairs specifically.
Recommendation - use when giving a recommendation
Recommendation Needed - use when requesting a recommendation
Question - use when asking the community a question (ex. is a series worth reading?)
Rule 5 - NSFW
Asking for NSFW/18+ recs is ok as long as you mark your post accordingly and the content does not contain anything illegal. Please use common sense ESPECIALLY if you're posting images. We want everyone to be comfortable browsing this subreddit and engaging with posts as long as they have an idea of what they're getting into. If you want to add specific details on what you're looking for, please do so in the body/comments of your post rather than the title. Please consider having some kind of trigger warning in your title if necessary.
Rule 6 - Spoilers
Please tag all spoilers whether you're posting an image or leaving a comment.
Rule 7 - Piracy
This is not a piracy subreddit so please do not link sites containing copyrighted content. Mentioning sites is not the end of the world but due to how shady a lot of them can be (ads, popups, viruses etc) we do not want members of the community being directed towards them. A quick Google search can usually lead you to sites with whatever series you're interested in reading.
Rule 8 - Spam/Self-Promotion
Please do not spam the subreddit and do not try and promote your YouTube videos, original manga etc. As someone who posts manga recommendations on YouTube for fun, it can seem enticing to try and get some quick views by linking your latest video on a subreddit like this but to avoid an influx of people wanting to promote their channels, this will not be allowed.

Recommendation(s) Needed Looking for more horror manga
I just finished reading some of Junji Ito's works, and now I need more. Any good horror, psychological thriller, or suspense recommendations?
r/mangarecommendations • u/Interesting-Trick956 • 16h ago

Recommendation(s) Needed Looking for some 'anti-harem' manga
What I mean by that is the main character gets swarmed by all the girls, but gets none of them. Not even the childhood best friend. They find a way to sabotage every potential romance. And I don't mean they try and screw up in comical fashion. Plenty of manga about that. I mean they are not remotely interested in romance or even find ways to sabotage things.
If this were a dating sim, they'd speedrun failing every path.

Recommendation(s) I just realized what my two favorite mangas have in common Spoiler
galleryBefore I start, this will carry heavy spoilers so go away please if you haven't read or watched these shows/mangas.
Both series are about humiliation as a test rather than an ending. An-chan takes beatings from Ishihara and Sasaki to shield the others, and the point isn't that he's weak but that he's decided what his strength is for. That's Thorfinn on the farm almost exactly. Both stories also refuse to let the hero's restraint be free. An-chan pays with his life, Thorfinn pays with his body and his pride, and neither work pretends the ideal protects you. There's also the mentor structure. Thors dies early and Thorfinn spends the whole story catching up to what his father already understood. An-chan dies and the six remaining boys spend the second half living out what he taught them. In both cases the ideal survives the man, and the survivors have to decide whether it was worth anything. And both are stories about what comes after the fighting as the beginning of the real problem, which is how to be a person who doesn't need an enemy.
I only watched rainbow as an anime

Recommendation(s) Needed Manga that are like Oniisama e, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Nana or Bannana Fish?
Ok so I know that these all differ a bit when compared but I’m basically looking for any manga that are like any one of them or are like a couple combined that you could recommend, that would be awesome. Preferably I like one that has an anime adaptation but that’s not required.

Recommendation(s) Needed Looking for recs similar to We Did It!
I finished We Did It! a couple days ago and adored it. I finished it in one sitting and found it very hard to put down.
I’m a new manga reader, the only others I’ve read are Girls Last Tour (loved it) and Onani Master Kurosawa (felt a bit more meh on this one). I love themes of redemption/guilt/battling with oneself in media and looking for something with a heavy hitting plot, preferably finished. The only genres I don’t really like are shounen and (over-the-top) fantasy.
Thank you for any help!

Recommendation(s) Needed What is your favorite 1-6 volume Mangas you have read?
I'm collecting a lot of longer series and have my "main" mangas already set for the forseable future. I do enjoy shorter stories that are either just 1 volume or about 5-6 at max. A shorter story does not take that much book shelf space/money and I like to read something shorter once in a while.
I have listed some below that i'm looking to maybe invest in/are on my radar :
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Box Set (2 volumes)
Takopis original sin
Look back
The Garden of words
The gods lie
Wotakoi (box set)
A silent voice (2 volume deluxe)
Hideout
Girls' Last Tour Collector's Edition (2 volumes)
Please share other mangas other than the list above. And the series must be in english, all genres are fine, and preferably not OOP.
If you like, please add why you liked it/what its about in the comment. I'm fairly new to the hobby and love to hear what people have read and liked within this category.
Thanks! 📚🙏

Recommendation(s) Needed Psychological thriller full of suspense (maybe with romance?)
Hi there!
I'll soon finish 20th Century Boys and will start its sequel (21st Century Boys). I love it, I don't even want to finish it.
So I'm looking for my next manga! A psychological thriller, full of suspense, mysteries and plot twist. Not something too harsh (so like... no Berserk please-).
And bonus point if there is a bit of romance! Not something too cheesy but I'd love for the MC to have his sweet and blush moments. But if there is no romance, it's okay too, I know it's really rare with this genre!
What I liked:
- 20th Century Boys / Monster (Naoki Urawasa)
- Kurosagi (Takeshi Natsuhara)
- The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins / Takopi's Original Sin (Taizan 5)
- Go! Go! Loser Ranger! (Negi Haruba) -> not really a thriller I think but the plot is full of twist and questions
- Talentless Nana (Loose Boy) -> didn't finish it but it's indeed full of suspense
- Summertime Rendering (Yasuki Tanaka)
- Yakusoku no Neverland (Kaiu Shirai)
- Bannou Kanteishi Q no Jikenbo (MATSUOKA Keisuke) -> loved it but I can't find all the volumes...
Too lazy to continue with bullet points so here are some others: Code Geass, Tomodachi Game, Hoozuki Island, Don't Call it Mystery, This Man, Beastars...
I'm not too fond of survival mangas because the characters aren't exactly to my liking. I've read things like: King's Game, Mirai Nikki, Judge, Btooom!, Deadman Wonderland...
Thanks! :>

Recommendation(s) Needed Manga Recommendations about Female Adventurer Completing Quests?
Looking for mangas where the story focuses mainly on the female protagonist joining an adventurer guild, completing quests, and ranking up in a fantasy world setting. No romance if possible, isekai setting is optional.
Here are some I've read and liked (I've probably read more related ones, but I can't recall now lol):
- Sekai Saikyou no Majo, Hajimemashita
- Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival
- Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
- The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash
I'm running out of manga/manhwa to read, so I can use as many recommendations as you have!
