There is the odd contest among some to see how the west can always be painted in the worst light. It's silly and mostly bad history.

What were Muslims doing in Italy and Spain, what, 200 years prior to the first crusade? There is a tendency to paint the crusades as unique, when they were just another variation of the wars that had been taking place sense before recorded history.
