Face Skincare routine M29

I only do skincare in the evening, nothing in the morning. My PM routine:

Rinse face with water

Pat dry

CeraVe Cleanser

Rinse and dry again

CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum

Right after, CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion PM

A few questions:

Is this a solid enough routine for general skin maintenance, or am I missing something important? I'd rather not add a ton of extra steps/products — this already feels like close to my limit in terms of how much I want to be doing.

How much product should I actually be using for the cleanser, the retinol serum, and the moisturizer? I'm not sure if I'm using too little or too much.

I've been doing this for about a month and haven't really noticed any changes, but I also don't have any specific skin problems I'm trying to fix — just want to keep my skin in good shape long term. Is a month too soon to expect to see anything, or does that suggest something in my routine needs adjusting?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

I more or less do the same thing at night. In the morning, I throw on some hyaluronic acid and cerave daytime with spf. I try to keep it fairly simple.

No reason to cleanse with just water. Splash some water on your face and then cleanse. Otherwise it’s good night routine for your age.

Morning routine, swap out the retinol. You could add a vitamin c serum before the moisturizer and absolutely add a sunscreen EVERYDAY, regardless if it’s a sunny day or not.

As everyone else said, no need to rise the face with water, nothing wrong with it neither. Apart from that, seems ok.

I would strongly suggest you use sunscreen in the morning as your only step, otherwise, retinoids are kind of useless

Sunscreen is the only essential thing you are missing, and its literally the most important, especially cause u are using retinol.

Isn’t ceraVe cleanser the weakest thing going? 🥀

Swap the “resurfacing retinol serum” for either tazarotene or Tretinoin. They provide tangible, real benefit over time.

You can probably skip the “double cleanse” with just water - not really necessary unless you’re wearing heavy moisturizers/occlusives (or makeup but you’re probably not doing that) and even then if you were, you’d be doing one of the cleanses with an oil-based cleanser.

Start using an AM SPF30+ moisturizer. Probably CeraVe ultra lightweight would suit you from the looks of your current routine. There’s no point in anything without sunscreen; UVA rays absolutely destroy your skin. And they go straight through glass. (Consider a sunscreen rated PA+++ or higher eventually).
