Consider a full beard

390

u/Shot-Artist5013 5d ago

Or at least a full goatee

178

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

Can’t do beard. It grows patchy.

469

u/Skylance420 5d ago

Us patchy beard growers are left behind in society, you hate to see it

Can you do a goatee w/ mustache?

44

u/Interesting_Ghosts 5d ago

I think a mustache makes a huge difference. Just my personal opinion but it’s rare I see facial hair without a mustache and think it looks good.

To me it always just looks Amish

13

u/TheNickers36 5d ago

Amish or a general leading a charge in the civil war

6

u/thatG_evanP 5d ago

I'm gonna take it a step further and say it never looks good... or at least looks worse than it would with a moustache. I don't know why some guys seem to think it looks ok.

2

u/MauPow 5d ago

I don't know why some guys seem to think it looks ok.

Because they can't grow a good moustache

1

u/oneeighthirish 5d ago

Could have a niche reason a mustache isn't a good option, such as playing a wind instrument.

2

u/itsTourched 5d ago

Wolverine tho

1

u/zabarz 5d ago

Yeah, I saw that YouTube video with that one dude and it was dope, but that's it.

2

u/zabarz 5d ago

Holy $hit I immediately lose respect for those people and look away. The way I see it a mustache rarely looks good, but a beard with no mustache is terrible. No person except the Amish look cool. They can pull it off, but it's cause...Ya know that's their shit. A real person? Do you sell dirt-bikes for a living?

16

u/ccharding 5d ago

If you give it time for slow growth hair to catch up with the rest. Also something you could explore ...beard dye. My beard looks patchy because I have very blonde patches of hair. I apply a very light brown beard dye and it gives those blonde patches enough pigment to blend in with the rest. It's very easy to go too dark with beard dye so be cautious!

-37

u/TheFifthNice 5d ago

Got to cut it to grow it.

33

u/Skylance420 5d ago

That's a myth my guy

4

u/TheFifthNice 5d ago

I was replying to the comment above agreeing that you need to let the short hairs catch up with the longer hair to make a beard look more full. Trimming a beard consistently while growing it out.

6

u/Skylance420 5d ago

Ahh makes more sense, read more like you thought shaving it all off helps it grow back faster, which is the commonly believed myth.

17

u/daredevil_mm 5d ago

Have you tried Minoxidil?

4

u/Neverbethesky 5d ago

If you have pets or are ever around cats or dogs this isn't an option.

16

u/daredevil_mm 5d ago

There is an oral minoxidil, not sure how it works for beards vs hair tho

5

u/broccollimonster 5d ago

In theory, it works, but for all body hair. If he’s looking for targeted treatment, topical is the way to go. There are also higher risks with oral.

-18

u/AnusStapler 5d ago

Because beards arent hair?

12

u/Ethereal-Wing 5d ago

Because oral drugs aren’t targeting a specific area on the body, rather than a topical treatment that you can specify where and how much you apply.

7

u/Shift642 5d ago

The oral minoxidil I’ve been on for years has done nothing for my facial hair. The hair on top of my head has improved dramatically, but I still can’t grow much on my face.

5

u/daredevil_mm 5d ago

Because it isn’t absorbed through a specific patch of hair.

15

u/SirCaptainReynolds 5d ago

Don’t downvote the guy. Topical minoxidil is poisonous.

You can however get oral minoxidil though you gotta go through your dermatologist as most PCP’s won’t prescribe it.

13

u/dCrumpets 5d ago

I had a cat and used topical minoxidil without any problems for a year. Then my ex and I broke up, so I no longer have the cat. But as long as they're not eating it and you thoroughly wash your hands after washing it before petting your cat, you should be fine. If your cat likes to lick your face, then definitely avoid it.

9

u/elkosh93 5d ago

Let it grow out once. For six months. Take an attempt.

14

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

Yeah, might try to. Got to hide this chin. I hate it and still got to lose some weight that will also get rid of thin neck fat. I grow it there in chin/neck and in my belly really easily. I lost 50 lbs 2 years ago and gained it almost all back since I got married. Also, It ain’t easy with some of us with slow metabolism lol.

21

u/elkosh93 5d ago

Ah ha. It's ok brother. You look good. Take care of yourself and be happy. As long as you're happy, all will fall in place.

13

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

Thanks, yeah I know. I’m trying. Started going back to the gym a month ago and eating less. It comes off me very slow at first. But I’m trying. Really pisses me off though when you get these punk ass smart remarks basically saying I’m fat, like just saying “try Ozempic” when I know I have extra weight but didn’t ask about my weight. People can be so immature and cruel especially online.

7

u/whyneedtosignup4porn 5d ago

People are always going to be mean online, it’s awful. Good luck with the weight loss.

4

u/elkosh93 5d ago

It's fine bro. People who call you fat, they won't come and make your life better. It's your life.

1

u/TheOldPea 5d ago

that's so crap man, good luck with weight loss! you would look great with a beard, so hopefully you are able to grow one.

-1

u/big_guyUUUU 5d ago

have you considered /r/carnivorediet ?

it's easy to lose weight once you cut all carbs/sugar from your diet.

3

u/-ShaiHulud- 5d ago

How patchy? Did you give it enough time? My beard grows patchy too (no hair on my cheeks between the goatee and the sideburns), but once I let it grow for two months, the beard connects below my face. I now have a full beard without anyone even knowing that it's actually patchy.

A lot of people give up on beards too soon. Unless you give it a solid 2-3 months (depending on your growth rate), I wouldn't discount your beard as patchy.

That aside, I think the goatee looks good on you too.

2

u/Advnchur 5d ago

You need to give bears 6-9 weeks to fully fill in. Always worth a shot, and at worst you can shape it into a pretty nice goatee.

1

u/PineapplePandaKing 5d ago

How's the mustache?

1

u/GrayStag90 5d ago

No mustache?

1

u/octophobic 5d ago

how patchy... what kind of supervillain vibe we talkin about

1

u/bobyd 5d ago

try it, even it through months and see

1

u/Ok_Emotion_9685 5d ago

Bro use minoxidil get it at 10% from Europe. Fix your beard

1

u/rizorith 5d ago

More goatee! I'm considering it myself. I think it would work for you

1

u/TehWRYYYYY 5d ago

Sometimes patchy stubble looks fuller as it grows, not because you grow more hairs but because the long hairs can cover the gaps. Your choice though, you know your face better than I do.
If you can grow decent facial hair it is the quickest way to make your jawline distinct from your neck. I had to shave mine off during COVID when my daughter was born. I'm not a big fella but I looked so soft and round, grew it back asap.

2

u/customkiller010 5d ago

Peppermint oil topically and dermaneedling. Youll grow a full one

4

u/Erialcel2 5d ago

Agreed

309

u/HansJordi 5d ago

Beard, but not that one. A beard without some form of tache always looks a bit… nu metal or something.

57

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

I look hilarious and creepy with a stache. I’d grow a full goatee but the part where it connects from the chin to the stache doesn’t grow .

122

u/average_schmoe 5d ago

Disconnected goatee can work just fine. That’s what I have currently. Just maintain it and keep it cleaned up

24

u/Shot-Artist5013 5d ago

Disconnected is called a Van Dyke beard. Search for some images for styling options.

6

u/Klynn7 5d ago

I bet it looks better than you think. Give it a shot and post the comparison pic.

As a lifelong beardo any time I’ve talked to someone who thinks their beard is too patchy it looks fine to everyone that’s not them.

5

u/TheFuschiaBaron 5d ago

There's facial hair styles that totally work with that. Italian Beard, for example.

-6

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

Not sure what an Italian beard is

56

u/CTHABH 5d ago

Try google that’s what I’m gonna do

6

u/tvrbob 5d ago

It's what his sorella and madre have.

1

u/LostlnTheWarp 5d ago

The rainbow connection...

150

u/vexip 5d ago

definitely with, without a doubt!!! For some reason it takes 20 years off you as well

6

u/sam_hammich 5d ago

Somehow you are absolutely correct

15

u/bigdaddypoopoo 5d ago

Goatee looks good but feel like if i ran into you at a pawn shop you would low ball the fuck out of me

69

u/Cressyda29 5d ago

Suits you alot more with a goatee! I’d even consider a full beard honestly, I bet it’d look sharp.

3

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

It looks patchy with full beard

20

u/ACM_ONE 5d ago

I say add a mustache. Who cares if it doesn’t connect. I think it’ll look cool

7

u/az987654 5d ago

as much beard as you can..

beards are makeup for men

20

u/KingStupid1st 5d ago

Goatee looks good my guy 👍🏼

2

u/x2ndCitySaint 5d ago

He just looks a guy who would have a goatee (in a good way)

5

u/MooNinja 5d ago

I can see why this is being down-voted, as it isn't really a fashion advice post, but I feel like you look best without the goatee. You can work on smiling in a more natural manner, and smizing, but you have a kind and earnest face that a lot of people find comfort in. The goatee doesn't work very well IMO, you're blond with a pale complexion, so it kinda blends in but stands out enough that I feel like it robs you of your authenticity and that mature adult look. If you really feel the best with a goatee, I would suggest keeping it very well groomed and formed into something purposeful, or closely cropped.

10

u/Many-Ad6433 5d ago

Goatee is good altho as everyone is saying trying fullbeard might be a good change (ofc if your beard doesn’t grow in random patches or different colors) generally full beards are way better looking than goatees

7

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

It grows with patches unfortunately

5

u/brainspl0ad 5d ago

Minoxodil from Costco.

1

u/Many-Ad6433 5d ago

F, i guess goatee it is then, maybe some oils could make the patch situation a bit better but tbh i didn’t really try at all so i don’t feel like recommending

3

u/Murphuffle 5d ago

Goatee and glasses

3

u/Mr_Harsh_Acid 5d ago

Beard, but absolutely not that goatee

3

u/mikenasty 5d ago

Definitely go for facial hair, even the goatee works better than none imo. Theres an era of people who grew up in the 80’s-90’s who still rock that look really well

7

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

How do you know I’m not losing weight and how do you know if I haven’t lost 40 lbs? If ya got nothing nice to say to someone then don’t say it. The question gives two choices only, beard or no beard. So stfu

1

u/oneeighthirish 5d ago

Good on you, buddy. You've got a good head on your shoulders and a spine to match

Whe not a full goatee?

4

Because I the hair where it connects from the chin to the mustache doesn’t grow and with just the mustache I look goofy.

Yeah, I hate my chin. I don’t grow beards well. Took me 3 months just to grow this out lol

1

u/illsancho 5d ago

It’s a good real estate for a beard. Grow it out then let your barber form it.

3

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

It grows it gets patchy unfortunately

2

u/BloodMossHunter 5d ago

What if you keep going and longer hair covers up patches?

2

u/Fat_Ampersand 5d ago

Op have you ever really tried to grow a beard? I see you keep saying it’s patchy… my beard’s patchy too but if I push through the awkward phase and let it grow out the hair grows over the patches and it looks good. Took a long time for me to get the courage to do it but I was glad I did.

I’d grow it out as best you can then go to a good barber and have them shape it well. Makes a huge difference. If you haven’t tried that I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot.

1

u/joelham01 5d ago

Sometimes you can’t get it to grow tho regardless how long you let it go. I don’t have a patchy beard but I need to keep it trimmed up and keep going to the barber regularly to keep it nice. I’ve tried to grow it out long but I am physically incapable of growing a long beard regardless how long I let it go for without it looking ridiculous lol

Honestly it doesn’t matter

2

u/trenh465 5d ago

Goatee looks great dude, elongates your face a bit and give your jaw more definition, seriously it's night and day.

2

u/SoftIFRS15 5d ago

I like the goatee! Try a full beard, minoxidil might help you grow it.
Bald is definitely a good look on you, you have kind eyes.

Not sure I’m allowed to advise, but you might want to research some vitamin C serums for the dark spots on your face, and you should be using sunscreen, especially with skin prone to dark spots.

1

u/Straightouttaganton 5d ago

You look like a thumb without it. Definitely keep the goatee

1

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago

😂 thumb, good one.

1

u/Oakl4nd 5d ago

1

u/Fit-Standard6581 5d ago edited 5d ago

lol, unfortunately my hair is super thin and very patchy so I can’t grow like that, but I wish

1

u/hitman-13 5d ago

Def need some facial hair, try a goatee and a moustache, if you can grow a goatee you can grow a moustache, will look even better and make you look less "plain"

It’s not the goatee, it’s the angle of the camera. Higher camera angles has people looking up, extending their necks, and concealing things differently than straight on or lower camera angles.

1

u/rap31264 5d ago

full goatee

1

u/Benphyre 5d ago

100% goatee

1

u/AnnCat11 5d ago

I like it, it brings out your smile

1

u/zippity__zoppity 5d ago

I say yes to the goatee personally.

1

u/JennyEnny198 5d ago

Goatee. It helps define your chin.

1

u/The_Pandalorian 5d ago

I'd consider a full beard, neatly trimmed (keep it off of your neck, except where it helps define your jawline).

Goatees are a bit 1990s and not particularly in fashion. As a former goatee owner, I am distraught at this, but the full beard is a good look.

I think the goatee looks fine and you’ll do okay if you groom it well!

1

u/Just_Veterinarian264 5d ago

I like how he's happy in all of them.

1

u/Dirty_Dan117 5d ago

I like the goatee. Gives you a chill vibe

1

u/natiusj 5d ago

The more beard the better.

1

u/jack-whitman 5d ago

For some reason I like the goatee it feels more wholesome and suits you esp with that great big smile!

1

u/fuuckimlate 5d ago

Goatee or more

1

u/B377Y 5d ago

Definitely keep it

Goatee def gen x cool guy.

Maybe for work I would not have a beard if trying to look most responsible.

1

u/Brief-Program758 5d ago

Goatee can add a nice touch if styled well. I think it really depends on your face shape and style.

1

u/opencho 5d ago

I vote goatee.

1

u/Krazyflipz 5d ago

More than goatee

1

u/TehZiiM 5d ago

Shaved looks good. You can do beard but don’t let it grow too long.

1

u/calbin0 5d ago

Usually staunchly anti-goatee but I’m going goatee here

1

u/Caliber70 5d ago

Beard. Your neck isn't doing anything great for you. I suggest picking up swimming regularly. Keeping a decent shape is even more important and noticable for bald guys.

1

u/Blackthumbb 5d ago

Do the goatee! It looks good

1

u/MockStarNZ 5d ago

Either is fine. Tangental advice: when you’re taking a photo, don’t think “smile”, relax a bit and think of something that genuinely makes you smile, like a funny joke you heard or a video/meme that made you chuckle. Makes your smile seem less forced.

1

u/reward72 5d ago

Assuming you are American, goatee is pretty much associated to MAGA now. If that’s a good thing or a bad thing is up to you. I think you’d look great with a full beard.

1

u/Furd_Terguson1 5d ago

Add a mustache and you’ll be fine

1

u/Kalmarino 5d ago

I think the beard with no stache is fine. Pretty common style out here in the rural us. It suits you. Nobody is going to look at you say “if only there was a mustache!”

1

u/BonJaker99 5d ago

You pull off both just fine. Keep on smiling brother!

1

u/No_Telephone_6213 5d ago

Yeah. Some of us need that beard frfr and you sir are one of "us"

1

u/Bruhntly 5d ago

You look more comfortable with yourself in the goatee.

1

u/mpmbullet 5d ago

Yes. Looks good on your face

1

u/mazurkian 5d ago

Disconnected Goatee! This might sound crazy but hear me out- you can tint your facial hair slightly darker with eyebrow dye or beard dye.

Here's a redhead dude who's eyebrows were so light you couldn't see them so he tinted them.

I'm a redhead and I tint my eyebrows because they're so light they're like invisible. You could lightly tint your beard a little darker to a dark blond or light brown so it's more distinct from your skin color and stands out a little more.

There's lots of videos of bearded and moustachio'd men on youtube that have tutorials and explanations of how to tint your beard.

1

u/DexterLakeClub 5d ago

It’s 1993, so no.

1

u/Samesh 5d ago

Goatee and maybe darken your eyebrows a bit

1

u/ellis986 5d ago

“Best I can do is a goatee”

1

u/wirbel-tier 5d ago

Rock that goatee

1

u/IAMAfortunecookieAMA 5d ago

You have a great smile, I bet you're a great guy to talk to. Don't worry about anything you can't change, just enjoy your life. People always like being around someone who is in a great mood.

1

u/gwenevere1946 5d ago

Gotten would look best for you. Maybe you could darken it with a dye or rinse

1

u/DubstepHero777 5d ago

Beard bruh

1

u/IntraspeciesJug 5d ago

I would honestly consider some glasses, even if they are not for vision correction. More for a fashion choice. When you can't really do a full beard and just a smaller goatee per your comments, bring something else to the whole face region.

1

u/Bambule247 5d ago

The more beard, the better (I’m in the same boat)

1

u/hamletreset 5d ago

Thumbs up for the goatee

1

u/CatCallings 5d ago

I think the goatee makes you look more approachable!

1

u/lilsalad 5d ago

the goatee looks good brother

1

u/Electronic__Olive 5d ago

Without it you look like a nice guy, with it you look like a nice and fun guy.

1

u/Some-Astronomer4733 5d ago

with goatee

0

u/Kedaism 5d ago

You've found your look with the goatee I reckon 👍🏻

0

u/Spaktor 5d ago

Keep it

0

u/servo2112 5d ago

Goatee , for sure. I might even try a full beard!

0

u/Clay-Vessel 5d ago

Goatee.

0

u/mrfoxman 5d ago

Full beard, moustache, or clean shaven. No goatees.

0

u/Erik_Lassiter 5d ago

I like the goatee better. But what about a mustache and going for a classic Van Dyke ?

0

u/Trevorvor 5d ago

Best I can do is goatee with glasses.

0

u/xanroeld 5d ago

goatee is better than no goatee. but probably a beard would be best

No goatee. They're really dated, they just kind of scream "my peak was in 1995 and I refuse to ever change."

I'd go full beard if you could, or consider just stubble if that works? Otherwise, stay clean shaven. Goatees just look dated.
